The way to transition from being a "new collector" after a few years is to stop buying mixed world bulk (like you say), and start buying a country or even just a single series that interests you and focusing and studying that with the aim to write up pages like an exhibit (whether you display them or not is up to you), you may think it's expensive, but it can end up cheaper - it's like trying to learn a language on duolingo but you do it for 12 languages instead of concentrating on 1 - you'll never get past the new stage if you keep your focus too broad
This is great advice! I can already see the increased costs of my 'buying bulk' as I need more and more albums for storage and those end up being the expensive part of collecting 😆. I've heard from many experienced collectors 'Eventually you'll just naturally narrow your focus' but so far the 'natural' part hasn't happened yet. I still haven't found anything that I want to commit 100% to focusing all of my energy on. Well, I'll keep searching..... thanks for watching and commenting!

I have set up at many stamp shows for years in Indiana and surrounding states. Some dealers always pack up to leave 1-2 hours early the last day of the show. They just can't wait to be gone! I always stayed till the very end. It's rude to leave early!
Haha thinking about it, I understand from the dealers perspective too, especially as we are probably counting down our last few weekends of nice weather. But I just hadn't encountered it before. Usually I try to come earlier than later but had other things in the schedule!
Looks like you found some nice items! I also enjoy the fact that one can collect with a very limited budget yet find lots material to enjoy. Loved the puzzle cutout Canadian stamp - I found one of these in a mix recently and love it. I enjoy all of the odd-shape stamps that seem to be happening over the last few years. Glad you have an active local stamp club - ours have disappeared as far as I can tell.
Yes I'm thankful for our local club! It's Very small to be honest (usually maybe 5 or so people come regularly?) but we're hanging in there. I'm also fortunate to be fairly nearby to other small cities as well with active clubs that I could always jump over to as well. I guess I should really credit our executives for continuing to book the spaces, bring all the books/binders etc for really keeping the club going!
That's right! I asked if he sells online or had a business card or anything and he said no, at this time he just makes things by request for the local Guelph club members. I think probably having to ship and package the items would be more trouble than it's worth for him at this time... But if you're local to this area he can probably be found through the Guelph club. It's a really neat idea anyway!

I used to place my collection in black pages albums and store CTOs as well as duplicates in envelopes to avoid saturating and damaging the albums with such a mass of stamps. After 20 years I changed strategy to fill white pages stockbooks with everything, both CTOs and also duplicates in albums.
I am still trying to figure out how to store my stamps! As soon as I put everything away, I get too many more stamps and they don't fit in the album anymore haha. Thanks for your comment!

I love the Bluenose! Someone in my stamp club had a sweater with a big image of the stamp on it... but when I went to the gift shop they did not have that one anymore!

Very interesting - it was fun to learn about how these were designed! I love definitive series like this with a ton of variations and values. I have found a lot of great stamps soaking kiloware - I just picked up a 5-lb box with a lot of interesting material from the local stamp shop and am looking forward to soaking this fall.

I have some of the Gerl stamps you showed and i was always curios about the design and the meaning so to me this video was very important to answer a lot of the questions about their existence .now the odd pictures on these stamps don't seem so odd Thank You very much .

One trick I learned long ago for curling is to put the stamp in a glassine envelope and draw it over the edge of the table in opposite direction of the curl. Might take couple of swipes

From what I understand the St. Maarten postal service recommends using third party couriers for international mail as sending it via the postal service takes months. Once the postcard reached Canada, the incorrect post code should not have delayed delivery as the address should have been resolved (either automatically or humanly) in the automated sorting process.
Interesting to know! When I mentioned the time delay to my Dad I think he said some cards they had sent to others also took several months- so yes, perhaps the delay was not necessarily on the Canada end.... Thanks for watching!
Last year I had a letter returned to me as undeliverable. Turns out that I had written one number of the zip code incorrectly. The town that I was mailing to is a small town and only has one zip code. When it got to the wrong zip code town they would have known that this town was not in their zip and easily looked it up and changed it but they decided to just send it back. I guess correcting the zip would have been to much like right for them. I guess not all postal workers are the sharpest tool in the shed. Glad yours at least went through.
Oh nooo at least you got it back? I always wonder where the postcards go that people send me that seem to 'disappear into the abyss' ... Are they trapped between sorting machines? On the floor somewhere? Were they mistakenly delivered to a neighbour who tossed it? We will never know. hahaha
@@StampCatStamps I can tell you a story. Many years ago I ordered some stamps from somone and I never received them. I was embarrased because this was the first time that I had ordered from him and he probably thought that I was a scammer. Well about 1-1/2 years later I received the stamps from him. It turns out that his letter had fallen behind a machine at his post office and they found it when they moved the machine. It did make me feel better that I knew he realized that I was not a scammer.
