To find “ START” tighten it down all the way and turn the handle,, you should feel the burrs against eachother. That is “ ZERO”, start counting each click after that. I found 8-9 works for aeropress and has also been good for V60. If I put mine on 6 it works with Nanopresso. There is a mod where you wrapp the outer burr egde in tape to reduce wobble. I think it helps.
hey! I've had a lot of experience with this specific model. I find that the grinder works more tolerably at finer settings. At coarser settings, the burrs are far apart and wobble a lot since there is no stabilizing mechanism for the outer burr. This wobble results in the unpredictably inconsistent grinds. Some people sticky tape the circumference of the outer burr to stabilize it against the wall. As you go finer, the burrs get closer and are a bit more stable when coffee is being ground.

This is such a great idea now that many more people are brewing coffee at home. I recommend trying the LIDO ET grinder, it has a wide range grind setting potential. Thanks for this, always enjoy the new videos :)
I initially used the original Hario Skerton grinder but it was very inconsistent so I eventually tried to modify it with 3D printed parts to stabilise the burrs. It helped a bit but wasn’t perfect. I then upgraded to the Wilfa Svart which was good and then most recently to the Niche Zero for home filter and espresso workloads. I finally got my April Brewer last week so I will be trying to dial in with the Niche. Thanks guys

"... completely unpredictable in what it generates ..." and double-grinding? I am amazed that you got a decent cup. Life is too short for (almost all) cheap grinders with high-end coffee. I'll suggest that a good ghost burr grinder like the Apex or Fuji Royal will give the best results under $500USD (although the new Ode may be a contender).
My first hand grinder was the Hario Skerton and I had the exact same issues. Grind sizes were inconsistent, difficult to dial it in day-to-day and produced large uneven chunks. Personally I use the Kinu M47 and have had a lot of success with dialing in my brews!

Hello April, Have you slightly changed the April Brewer brewing recipe? Previously, you use 12g to 200g water and do 2 identical pour with 50g circle / 50g centre pour, and aim the total brew time ard 2:30 min. Here you use slightly larger dose, and 30g circle / 70g centre and aiming a slightly longer brew time ard 3min. Any specific reasons behind the change? A better flavour profile and harmony between flavours and coffee texture?
What's your take on higher end home grinders? I know people sometimes buy EK43s, and I myself have a forte bg. I feel like with a more uniform grinder, I need to nail the grind size and use a simpler recipe or else the coffee tastes like sh*t.
I honestly don't get that much variation in grind size with mine (10-12 clicks) time after time. I think it's a pretty good grinder for the money. You must have a bad unit.
