After completing the brutal dalton highway I venture south towards the Kenai peninsula, making a few stops along the way of course. in this episode after spending some time in Denali national park I am forced to go to work in order to fund these trips and now that I'm back I slow down to do some much needed maintenance on the van.

A 65 would be 10 times more fun and 20 times less reliable! Haha

Love Alaska, didn't know you were a mechanic too but you have to be. Have a good time and be safe driving. 🙂

Thank you! Unfortunately I have touched every nut and bolt on this engine over the winter. The sad part is the starter has less than 9,000 miles on it same with the injection pump. Fixing old stuff is one thing. Fixing new stuff just irritates me😂

Just watching you put your coffee pot on the stove. Some of the camper suppers do a part that makes the grille think smaller for not much money.

Yes! I’ve seen those. For so long I’ve just been focusing on how reliable the vehicle was and haven’t had the time to look into luxury items like that until now haha I will say, if you put the coffee pot on the wobbly stove with it full then it will fall over and spill everywhere

Nice to see you back at it. A question for you: what are you using for a swing away for your spares? I’m putting 16” on my 91 Westy and I’m looking at options for the spare. Thanks.
@Sebastianstonum
@Sebastianstonum 11 месяцев назад
Yeah these are the vancafe swing away carriers. So you don’t need a bumper setup. Just drill 40 holes into the body.
@northwoodssurvival
@northwoodssurvival 11 месяцев назад
@@Sebastianstonum roger that. Thanks. I’m going back and forth between steel bumper and a swing away or one save on the bumper and get a couple like yours. Not keen about drilling into the body. Who knew life would be so hard.
@Sebastianstonum
@Sebastianstonum 11 месяцев назад
So hard! Haha yeah the bumpers are cool but all I wanted were the swing aways so just buying bumpers for that didn’t fit my nonexistent budget. I think the vancafe ones are stronger too since they are mounted to the body. 2 spares is definitely overkill though. It’s mostly for looks. I did the cassiar, alcan, and Dalton highways with no flats so far.

@@Sebastianstonum I think you made the right call tho. I driven lot up north on caribou hunts and into northern Quebec and NWT as a guide and I’d never go into that country without 2 spares. Two is one and one so none when you’re travelling those roads.

What engine are you running in your van? On your instagram I saw some old photos of a wasserboxer but obviously you’ve changed now?
@Sebastianstonum
@Sebastianstonum 10 месяцев назад
It’s a TDI out of a 2002 Jetta. I built the motor last winter. I’ll try and do an in depth breakdown of the van soon

Engine numero 4 or 5. I lost count😂
@bugmeister404

Oh thanks that would be an awesome video! I personally think the TDI is one of the best options for an overlanding Vanagon/T3. I'm in Australia and doing a diesel conversion as well and from what I understand the actual Diesel Vanagons are pretty rare in North America just like it is rare/non-existent here so it'll be interesting to learn how you tackled the conversion. Also interested in what OBD monitor you're using on your dash, I'm using a Scangauge but yours looks like it has lots of info on screen (Ultragauge?). @@Sebastianstonum
@itrstt66
@itrstt66 9 месяцев назад
does the t3 comes with onboard computer? or did you installed it?
@Sebastianstonum
@Sebastianstonum 9 месяцев назад
It’s a “Scangauge” that plugs into the on board diagnostic port for the engine that’s in it. Tells me everything I need to know about the health of the engine

@@Sebastianstonum neat!, is it all model compatible? and which brand and model is it?
