Exploring the Last Sears in Jersey City, NJ Before It Closes 

Hey Andy, this Sears had two floors, but the second floor was vacant because Primark was supposed to move in. However, now that Sears sold the entire building, this is what it looks like.

⁠​⁠​⁠@@TeknBoltPrimark was announced before the whole remodel, but at some point Dick’s Sporting Goods signed on and it wasn’t disclosed until fairly recently on the mall’s website. Dick’s Sporting Goods is taking over the entire 2nd level, so I think Primark is taking a portion of the lower level Sears.

@@iankhan4614 Not at all. Dave and Buster's is going to open on the bottom floor from the sound of it I believe. Sears had it coming. Newport didn't want them because Simon Property Group had way better tenants planned for the space. The Sears store was in such bad shape. During bad storms or hurricanes, water was leaking from the ceilings, several entrances were closed off. Several parking areas were also closed off. The auto center is also abandoned and boarded up. Sears had been neglecting the property for years now. Newport simply wants them out. Several RU-vid channels and news media predicted that this would happen years ago. Primark is set to take the top floor and Dave and Buster's along with several other tenants will likely take the bottom.

@@iankhan4614 Simply put it, if you're gonna defer maintenance like Sears did on the store and attract little crowds to the store, there's absolutely no reason to stay.

@@mikemancini313 if they lose Sears, they will struggle like West Oaks Mall and Florida Mall currently is. Sears in Florida Mall still exists, but it's worst than this one.

@@mikemancini313 But to your point, I'm surprised that Sears for most Malls existed as long as they did after 2009.

They really let this store go. Newport Centre really wanted them gone because Dave and Buster's and Primark wanted to move in. The store is in pretty bad shape. The ceilings are supposedly leaking water, several entrances are closed, as well as some of the parking lots in front of the Sears store. The auto center is abandoned and boarded up. It's just a nuisance of a brand to keep in the mall when there could be so many others.

​@@mikemancini313ig,. That makes sense it just feels knowonf theres just somewhere out there still a sears.. idk just feels wrong for them to not exist somehow.. luckily or hopeful that searspartsdirect staus afloat.

It's being replaced by Primark. That's why they wanted Sears gone. Primark is a much better brand.

Nope, especially when the mall has signed on other tenants to take over the space. The remodel just meant they’re shrinking the store even further to make way for other tenants. Similar to what was done in Freehold Raceway Mall and Staten Island Mall.
