I document store closings, malls, and abandoned retail. I hope you enjoy my videos and find them interesting. If you do, please consider subscribing to my channel. Thank you for your support!
I went to this one as a kid living in Lincoln Park in the late 90s and it looked exactly the same, right down to the orange handle carts and even the sounds of the automatic doors!!
I lived in Philiipsburg in the early 80's and remember those lanes well. Sorry to see it go for another useless and overbuilt franchise market. I also remember the Orr's, Laneco and Lane supermarket on Route 22 years ago. Thanks for the video. Note: Wonder if Bel-Pike Lanes on Route 519 in White Township is still in business? And, I think Oakwood Lanes on Route 31 in Warren County's still open
Enjoyed your video, thanks. The Boston Market in Flemington closed a few years ago too and is now a Chipotle. Others have closed in Flemington like IHop, TGIFriday, Pizza Hut, Radio Shack, Pier 1, Liberty Village Premier Shopping Outlets (to be a housing development) , a family-owned Sears and Bed Bath Beyond (now is a Burlington Coat Factory).
Interesting building layout. Maybe this might've been something else before Boston Market took over the building. It's good to know that this place is getting a new tenant. Wonder what it is. Fantastic video as always, TeknBolt!
Hey Andy, the triangle roof on top does suggest that it could have been something else before Boston Market. It certainly has an older feel to it. It would be great if they get a new restaurant in there soon. Thanks for watching Andy!
So many closed businesses and abandoned properties. Never a loss of subject matter. Sign of the times I suppose. Thanks for another great video TeknBolt! 😎
You're absolutely right, Terri, there seems to be an unfortunate trend of businesses closing and properties being abandoned. And to add to that list, I recently learned that 10 Stop & Shop locations in New Jersey are set to close this year. It's definitely a sign of the times, and it makes me appreciate even more the businesses that are able to weather the economic storms.
@@TeknBolt I heard about the Stop & Shops. I live down the shore and the Stop & Shop near me is one of the stores they are closing. To be honest, that store has been going downhill for a while now, not many people shop there and it's not very clean. It isn't much of a surprise they are closing.
This video reminded me to check if Jose Tejas is still open up near Woodbridge Center! Looks like a yes! Too many good times at that place during college at Rutgers!🎉
Hey Tek, good video! I of course love seeing these areas as this is more of the “northern part” of central Jersey I called home.🎉 Just in case you haven’t had family members tell you.. directly across the street where Sam’s club and Supercharged Entertainment is located.. that’s where the Ford Edison Assembly Plant was located.😢
Wow thats interesting I didnt even know the ford plant used to be there. I was looking at street view and Edison Towne Square didnt even exist in 2009 it was just an open field.
The owner of that property is still responsible for paying property taxes and I bet it's not cheap. That place is in a prominent location and has so much earning potential. Fifteen years is a really long time to keep up with taxes on a vacant commercial property without getting any return from it. I wonder if it has any liens on it. Very interesting to see these abandoned properties. Thanks TeknBolt.
It's unbelievable that this place has been sitting vacant for 15 years. I bet the inside is in a horrible shape. I know there was one close to my home. They didn't close down but rebranded the name and the business is still running! I heard about CompUSA but didn't get the chance to go inside when they were open. We never had one in my hometown except there were a few just an hour up North in Portland. Great video as always, TeknBolt!
Hey Andy! Yeah, it's pretty crazy that this Exxon station has been sitting abandoned for so long. And yeah, CompUSA was a pretty big deal back in the day! I vaguely remembered the rows of desktop pc's they were selling. Thanks for watching Andy!
I remember passing by it every time I went to Ikea when I was a child. We lived in Paramus for a while before moving to Colorado, and Ikea would usually do kids eat free which is why we went to Ikea a lot. Kind of sad...
So sad seeing it closed down. Boston Market used to have good tasting meatloaf and in recent times they actually changed the meatloaf formula so it doesn't quite taste the same. Maybe more Boston markets would stay open if their food stayed the same! Just my 2 cents
@@TeknBolt But if they did that, the BM corporation wouldn't have made quite as much money per sale. Use cheaper ingredients and other cutbacks -- no one will notice.
I remember Guy fieri went here about 5 or 6 years ago I guess the owner of this place was telling Guy fieri he found it somewhere and he had it dragged all the way over here in New Jersey it's just a shame you put all this money into this diner and then a year later we'll watch the money just flush down the toilet😢
This location was originally an Arthur treachers fish and chips... then Roy Roger's, and finally Arbys if I remember correctly. And the staples was a bowling alley and billiards room...
I was there when I was on my way to serve my weekend @ McGuire AFB (in uniform), I had breakfast there went to pay for my meal and the guy (I'm assuming the owner) told me the meal was "on the house" - that was nice of them/him.
Iam from Manville, and on the week ends me and a few guys drive our muscle cars, and park in the lot I had a 72 Ford MACH 1 NJ has the most Diners in the state 240.. Look them all up..
Based on information I read from My Central Jersey and NJ101.5, the Menlo Park Diner in Edison, NJ closed on October 28, 2023 due to a fire that started in the kitchen.
I grew up in Highland Park in the 60's. I don't know what we'd have done without our great diners!! Menlo Park was our shopping destinarion. Bamburgers!! The New Jersey " branch " of Macy's. This diner was right near by.
I just stopped by there a month ago and I didn't even realize it was closed. It just looked so dead we didn't even get out of the car. Just drove down the road to Tio.
At least you had another dining option nearby. Additionally, Tio Taco's location used to be Zinburger, another restaurant that permanently closed due to the pandemic.
@@TeknBolt Oh, interesting. Did not know that. I went to HS and college not too far from there, but I moved an hour down Route 1 almost 30 years ago. Don't get up this way very often.
So was I, probably 20 ot 30 years ago, passing through on a trip. The interior was quite large, with lots of table capacity. Also sad to see that they had to reduce their hours to only breakfast/lunch times in recent years.
I always find those diner buildings fascinating! It's unfortunate this one closed down caused by fire. This reminds me of the Chinese restaurant in my hometown that got burnt down in winter 2022. Since then they never bother reopening and it sits abandoned to this day, I believe. Awesome video as always, TeknBolt!
Andy, it's really sad when beloved places close down, especially because of accidents like fires. Your story about the Chinese restaurant in your hometown is a great example. It's heartbreaking to see places with so many memories sitting empty. Thanks for watching Andy!
This had to be a nice diner at one point. The exterior building design looks really neat and unique. A shame that they're out of business due to pandemic. Great video, TeknBolt!
Yeah, the exterior of the diner was really unique and cool. It was a Greek-style diner, which made it stand out. Unfortunately, they were already struggling due to the construction of the highway, and the pandemic ended up being the final blow that led to its closing. Thanks for watching Andy!
The Fireplace Grill in Paramus was torn down and replaced by a Chick-fil-A. I recall reading they were selling bricks from the building as mementos for local charities.
