I didn't even know Blade had a TV Series. And as a vampire fan, even the movies didn't appeal at the time they came out. Curiosity is finally getting to me.
@@Buffy8Fan Yeah, I enjoyed rewatching the movies to research the vid. It was alot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. The series was surprisingly entertaining.
Marc Spector being a werewolf expert is brilliant when you realize that Moon Knight's first appearance was in the original Werewolf by Night comic run where he was hunting the werewolf!
Cthon was also referenced in Wanda Vision and Multiverse of Madness . In the MCU he’s a multiversal Elder God responsible for creating the Darkhold and producing many copies of it . He chose Wanda as the Scarlett Witch. Wanda took over his 616 temple and eventually collapsed it in regret for her actions under his influence.
Can’t believe I haven’t been watching your videos! So happy you’re discussing Blade, he’s always been one of my favorite characters since Wesley Snipes portrayed him, thanks for the great vids!!
Yeah, it was fun putting this video together. Snipes was so great in the role! I had never seen the show, and also enjoyed watching it for this vid as well.
Yeah, that photo was wild. Would be very cool if it was the TV Blade. I'm also wondering if it might be Stone from the Elektra movie. But yeah, I'd love it if Sticky Fingaz showed up in DP&W!
Good point...need to keep expectations on cameos low so that we won't be disappointed. Honestly, just getting Deadpool and Wolverine together in a movie is more that I ever could have dreamed of!
I don't think it is commonly known. Spike TV might not even exist anymore, but I know that it wasn't very popular back in the day. And the only way I know about the series is because the first two episodes came on a disc in a "movie" format as part of a 4 Film Favorites collection that you might see for the old Superman and Batman movies. I only got around to watching the entire show recently, and let's just say it's very helpful to watch the movies before watching the show, which I did not do. The series' entire purpose is following up on the human body bag warehouse scene in Blade: Trinity, which I only vaguely put together based on dialogue in the show.
This was very appreciated, thank you! I never did get around to watching the show, but this really makes me want to. Also, just as a fun note, Chthon is a Marvel Comics character and has sort of appeared in the MCU. He has a statue in Doctor Strange 2, and his nickname, The Other, is used in the first Avengers movie. Not sure if he IS Chthon, but it would be interesting if Thanos did get Chthon under his control.
Yeah, the show is pretty good. The movies were better, but I did enjoy the show and especially how it built out the lore around Blade's past. And I agree, it was cool to see the name Chthon appearing. Makes it all feel even more connected, even if the reference wasn't very specific. It's just cool to see the same characters and concepts showing up in all of the Marvel related movies and shows!
Wtf. Literally midway through rewatching the first blade movie since early 2000s (ps the movie holds up incredibly well and is actually fucking sick, didnt remember it being so good) Keep up content. You're underrated man 👍
Oh wow...that's really cool timing! Yeah, I had fun rewatching all the movies while researching timeline clues and the series was surprisingly good as well. And thanks for the positive feedback on the vid. Really appreciate it!
Ooooh. The Tomb of Dracula comic is something I never quite paid attention to before. That series is where Blade actually got his introduction, in that old goofy looking green cloak.
Great video! I have a question: I know that these multiverse films all take place in separate universes but is it possible that some of these universes can reasonably take place in the same universe? (I don’t know if Disney owns all these films or not)
I agree, I think it's quite possible that some of these older movies were in the same universe. The Fantastic Four and the X-Men were certainly hinted at existing in the same universe, for example. And Punisher and Tobey's Spider-Man were likewise hinted to existed in the same universe. At this point it's just going to be fans guessing at the connections, but I really like the idea of several of the movies being connected.
@@AbitofEverything4U Definitely, it would make some universes a bit bigger than they are and a little more tightly nit/organized! I remember that MTV animated Spider-Man show that was supposed to follow up on the original Spider-Man movie had a guest appearance of the Kingpin from Fox's Daredevil. Also wasn't the Punisher cameo in Spider-Man 2 the stunt-double? Would that still count? And what's the connection between the X-Men and Fantastic Four?
Yep, that was indeed the stunt double for Jane's Punisher in Spider-Man 2. And for the Fantastic Four tie-in, Reed Richards made his face look like Wolverine at one point in a deleted scene. So there are a few cool connections out there!
Hey I’m watching the series and the scene when the cop is investigating the truck incident you said in your video that it’s episode three, well it’s actually episode 4 just wanted to let you know. Good job nonetheless appreciate your videos man
I don't think Blade will show up, but I could see an offhand reference to Hannibal King just because it is Ryan Reynolds. If anything from Blade shows up, I could see it just being vampires or maybe something in the background like his car or sign or wall with a glyph on it. Anything is certainly possible, but I think the more obscure and throwaway it is, the more likely. Just because the rights to make a Blade movie have returned to Marvel doesn't necessarily mean that they can use the same exact things from movies made from before. I'm no expert, I can't say that this would happen, but New Line Cinema made the Blade Movies, they're owned by Warner Bros. ergo Warner Bros. owns that version of Blade and anything featured in those movies, even if they can't make any more, and I'm guessing the show is also the same. The reason we're seeing so much of the Fox-verse show up is that Disney now owns 20th Century Fox which has since been renamed 20th Century Studios, and I think the movie is still technically being released as a 20th Century Studios picture even though it's mostly just Marvel Studios doing the work. Contracts are still in place preventing them from recasting all the X-Men characters from before up to a certain date which is how you get Evan Peters and Quicksilver and Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier. Disney's not going to sue themselves (although I wouldn't be surprised if they found a loophole to make them money by doing so), but I bet another studio could sue even after losing the rights to a property if what is being made is too similar to what they own without a proper licensing agreement. There's a hint to the Russian from Punisher, but he's also clearly different enough in both actor as well as differences in wardrobe that Lionsgate probably can't say, "Hey, they stole our thing" even though it's all still based off the comic. Legally distinct features or very similar interpretations from Marvel's own source material is what we're looking for if anything from outside of Fox is going to be used.
Very interesting commentary on whether Marvel can use the likenesses of characters from Punisher and Blade movies. I wonder if that will be an issue. You may be onto something there!
@@AbitofEverything4UAs for Snipes' Blade showing up in the MCU, I'm leaning more so on him appearing in Avengers Secret Wars rather than D&W. And if that controversy between him and Ryan Reynolds is true, I don't see them sharing a scene together. But hey, it's been such a long time since Blade Trinity came out, so you never know.
Yeah, I tend to agree. It feels more likely we'll see Blade in Secret Wars than in DP&W. I just hope Marvel manages to sneak in an appearance somewhere for Blade...would be a nice way to acknowledge the importance he had in bringing superheroes to the big screen!
I remember watching this show as a 9 year old kid 😂 I never once connected the dots that it was canon to the movies until now. I was just shocked that Sticky Fingaz of all people was cast as Blade
Yeah, I was blown away at all of the connections between the show and the movies. The show really added to the overall backstory of the movies and fleshed out some questions I didn't even know I had...like who took care of Blade as a baby...and why did he eventually leave to roam the streets...and how did he get those tattoos...etc. Pretty cool stuff!
I watched that series a couple years ago on tubi back when I was trying to watch all the live action stuff, it would be neat of they ended up bringing back either actors just for a cameo, tho it would be a nice deep cut if they got sticky fingaz lol
Yeah, I definitely agree that it would be a major deep cut to bring those characters back. The Reynolds tie to Hannibal King is cool, but would probably go over alot of people's heads.
If i remember correctly, Blade wasn't a Fox film, so I'd say he's further down the list of potential cameos. Its Fox stuff at the top. Also three new images were revealed of the movie, and you can get a clearer look at that guy you thought might be Stone!
I agree...the main draw of Blade appearing is that Reynolds was in Blade: Trinity, but I still suspect Blade is low down on the list for an appearance. And yeah, that sure does look like Stone in that image...love it!
Yeah, it was a pretty good series. I liked the movies abit better, but the series kept me entertained and had some really cool backstory on Blade's early life.
I think they gathered all the episodes of the TV series into a film called Blade, House of Chthon, both after the villain group and the same name of the demon who made the Darkhold in Multiverse of Madness
It was only the first two episodes of the series that they turned into a movie with a super annoying cliffhanger. I remember it well, because I thought it was just an actual movie at the age of 8 or 9 before eventually listening to the commentary track and learning it was a show.
Really cool video I’ve never seen the movies, though I did know about the series and I was very glad to hear it’s concretely canon. I’m still definitely super happy and thankful that you made this video however I do gotta give you some criticism here. One thing I was really confused on, was the 6 months later in blade trinity. I know you mentioned that it was in the extended cut but it seems like that’s canon too. And you just mentioned it once and never discussed it again. Is it something that takes place before blade trinity really starts? Is it during the movie or afterwards? How does it work and does it affect blade the series’ placement at all? Maybe I missed something in the video but I have absolutely no idea how this fits into everything or changes it. Overall I love the video though and I’m very much looking forward to seeing both ghost rider and the hulks timelines. Since they’re seemingly canon and expand on the world of the movies will you touch on the hulk video game (which serves as a sequel) and the ghost rider game which is in between the movies I think? It would really expand on the video and be a cool topic. Personally it would make it more interesting than just watching a video on hulk just being a singular movie and ghost rider just having one sequel. I know you often don’t do stuff like this but I’d love it.
Good question on the “6 months later” ending to Blade: Trinity. My guess is that it’s happening after the end of the Blade series, as it would be around September, 2006. So it doesn’t impact the series but if there had been a season 2, then we might have seen a connection, since we do get a werewolf mention in the series. And yeah, I need to look at the video games, but one catch is trying to find screen caps for them. I’ll see what I can do, as I agree it’s cool to learn about how those fit in. Excellent suggestion!
@@AbitofEverything4Uthanks for the clarification on the six months later that makes perfect sense. Also glad to hear it, catching up on your videos now so I’ll have to give that a watch I’m sure I’ll love it. I personally really love the obscure tie in media
Just curious do you reach out to the winners of the monthly contest? Sometimes people could miss out on videos to skip spoilers for something they haven’t seen yet and wouldn’t wanna miss it in the rare chance. Thank you!
I've done that in the past and still not heard back, if you can believe that. But not everyone has their notifications turned on so they may not get my reply to their comment, ig? But yeah, I'll keep doing that in hopes that it gets to them that way. Great suggestion!
The Blade series is pretty cool. Don't like the actor much, and I think it subpar compared to the films, but whereas the films didn't mention anything regarding the wider Marvel Universe, the series actually references quite a bit. We firmly get a name drop of Marc Specter who specializes in werewolves (meaning Werewolf by Night Jack Russel likely also exists in that universe). Additionally, the main Vampire House of the series, the House of Chthon, is named after the Elder God Chthon, the creator of the Darkhold, which is the source of werewolves, vampires, and many other curses throughout the Marvel Universe. Chthon is also very important in the story of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. It actually would've been a little cool to see the tv series actor show up alongside Nic Cage's Ghost Rider and that really impressive Man-Thing from the impressively terrible Man-Thing film in something. A guy can dream. But hey, Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night and Moon Knight have all shown up in Marvel Studios MCU projects, Robbie Reyes has shown up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and will hopefully be folded into the official Marvel Studios Sacred Timeline canon, and Blade is coming out... Eventually. The film is jn development hell right now, which sucks. Edit: Also, I left a reply to another comment detailing briefly how I discovered the series, but the disc I had of the first two episodes also had a commentary track, and in it, Geoff Johns and Dave Goyer just explicitly say that the series is a sequel to the films. So if anyone wants to debate the show's canonicity, then go pick a fight with them, not A Bit of Everything.
I agree, the series wasn't as good as the movies, but I did really enjoy how they built out the lore behind Blade's early years and had alot of ties to the comics. And I'm with you that I really do hope we get a Midnight Sons movie...all the pieces are coming into place! Oh, and yeah, I agree, there is no doubt that the series is intended to be canon. It fits in so well with the movies. Love it!
I've been having trouble with comments today, too. But your feedback on there being a bigger gap between Trinity and the TV series was very interesting. Excellent commentary as always!
Agreed...hoping for the best that the Blade movie still happens. Feige really wants the Midnight Sons to happens, so hopefully that keeps Blade on track!
Missed opportunity not including the tie-in Blade video games, comics, and Animated “Bloodthirsty” short imo And to a lesser extent the What If on Earth-42222 that branches off of the first film where Deacon succeeds
I did indeed consider including those, but it's so hard to find screen caps from them. Plus, I figured the most interest would be in the live action entries. But I may do a vid in the future on the video game tie-ins with movies. There is definitely interest in those games and how they tie into the overall canon.
I was watching men in black and realized it is a marvel comic ( didn't no this) but my point is the end of that movie when it shows our universe is a marble among a whole bag of marbles inside of a new universe, this got me thinking of how we try too explain marvel universes and timelines and muliverses and Loki portraying it as a tree and a possible forest of trees or as in mib a bag of marbles, I just wanted to say that I thought it was interesting and what you would think of that
Very clever idea...yeah, similar to Loki's tree being one tree in a "forest" of multiversal trees, I could see each universe being like a marble in a bigger bag of marbles that is the multiverse. Great analogy!
Personally I don’t think blade characters will show up in Deadpool and wolverine, it seems to be more about the fox characters but if a blade character were going to show up I’d think it be Hannibal king because he’s played by Ryan Reynolds but even then I don’t think it will happen
Yeah, I agree...it seems pretty unlikely that Blade appears, but it would be very cool to have a small Hannibal King easter egg thrown in somewhere. We'll find out in a few short weeks!
I feel it's interesting to point out that the Blade movies actually exist in the Deadpool universe since Weasel mocks Ajax and Angel Dust with the line, "Have fun at your midnight showing of Blade II."
@@AbitofEverything4U Hey i'm watching the deadpool and wolverine 2nd trailer and i don't know if you notice this but during that scene where you think electra could be we can see someone else fighting it looks like with wade and logan.
The MCU Blade keeps getting delayed... I expect a Wesley Snipes cameo as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. There was a 1906 branch featured in Loki Season 1 where the Nexus Event took place in Spain and Dracula was involved. How did Deacon Frost meet Blade's mother?
Yeah, I love that reference to Vampires in the Loki series. I suspect Blade will indeed appear in DP&W and I'll totally here for it! As for Deacon meeting Blade's mother, I didn't want to go into it in the video since it's a spoiler for the first Blade, but his mother didn't actually die (he just thought that she did), but instead she soon turned into a vampire herself and then joined up with Deacon. That was a really cool reveal in the movie!
Yeah, it would be pretty wild if Snipes were to appear in the movie. But that would be hilarious if the one from the series appeared instead. I thought he was a good Blade, tbh. Would be cool to see him again!
Interesting… Where did you read that they are from different earths? Everything I’ve seen connects the movies and the series together and I was really impressed by how well the stories meshed.
@@AbitofEverything4U I Remember Watching a Vid Saying The Blade TV Series was from another Earth and Reading it as well although That was a Long Time ago.
@@AbitofEverything4U During the opening credits of Blade 2, a snippet of a deleted scene is shown of Whistler almost killing Blade. It's basically a flashback of him discovering Blade as he was attacking a homeless man due to his thirst taking hold at age 13, and feeding off of the homeless. Whistler(as he told Karen)was about to kill him, until he realized that it was daylight. So this flashback in the tv series of Blades youth makes no since when compared to what was established in the first film. Even though the scene was deleted and therefore not considered official canon. a snippet was shown during the opening credits and matches the story Whistler told to Karen in the first film. I see the series as taking place in a parallel timeline, because there is no way, NO WAY that Blade would savage his iconic hair fade LOL. If I find any info about the series taking place on another earth, I will link it here.
@@mrrictus Thanks for that info on the deleted scene. Although, based on what you are saying it sounds like the scene was deleted and therefore is not considered official canon. So I don't think it's an issue with contradicting the series. What I loved about the TV series is how well it fleshed out the things we didn't know about Blade's origin, such as how he survived all those years until he met Whistler and also where he got his tattoos.
Yeah, that photo was wild. Would be very cool if it was the TV Blade. I'm also wondering if it might be Stone from the Elektra movie. But yeah, I'd love it if Sticky Fingaz showed up in DP&W!
lol...yeah, I'd have fun as a detective or a lawyer, I suspect. But actually, I'm an IT guy, so I am drawn to looking at all the small details. Once I learned from my boss that if my programs failed in the middle of the night that I would be called in to fix them, I began my journey of obsessively trying to get every detail right. ofc, it was reinforced after I missed something and got called in that first time around midnight to fix it. ooooooof. Not fun!
Man it really upsets me that marvel is taking so long making a new blade. The dude that played cottonmouth is great. They are just wasting his prime by wasting his time. Is love to say the rumors are false because marvel couldn't be that dumb. But the fact that they keep getting directors just for them to leave a couple months later makes me believe it's true because what else could it be. I think it's 5 so far. Rumor has it blade is pushed to the side as a mention and the main characters are women. Maybe one of them being his daughter mixed with a werewolf or something... Bladet i assume... Wtf marvel they can't be that dumb. They got all this cannon to take from and instead they steak the plot from underworld? Come on now. Honestly i never put 2 and è together about why Wesley smiles was a jerk on set but o wouldn't be surprised if it's because he felt like a second class citizen on his own movie. Which is everyone's least favorite movie in the trilogy... probably because blade is pushed to the side... And this is gonna be marvels big idea at this moment on the mcu where the conversation has been " are they back? You think marvels getting their act together now? " There's literally been about 5 different movies or shows that i hear " this is the first good movie since end game" . Sure huge exaggeration since it's been said about every other movie or show they made but still it's the conversation that's being had... And their big idea is to make a movie called blade plagiarizing underworld starring bladerina? Come on now. I honestly really enjoyed Trinity, as a kid it was my favorite. Hot girl fighting vampire and i always saw Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool even back when he was the bad version of the character. So blade teaming with hot girl and Deadpool what more could you ask for? Well as an adult i kinda noticed blade being shafted in that movie so everyone now would ask for a movie to focus on him. And I'm about as sick and tired as i can be about fans making comments like mine and the studio and the media writing it off as se xist. I'm tired of being gas lit. Blade movie should star blade. That shouldn't be se xist to say. I watched Electra and didn't need a male protagonist or even a male love interest. Just give me a relatable character and cool action. That movie failed. But point being i didn't need them to drastically change the story to be my genders story arc to enjoy it. And wonder woman 1 and Captain marvel are both billion dollar franchise!!! Is the fans were toxic why did those movie make more than a bunch maybe even most male super heroes... And it's not just cause women saw it more because of you look at the statistics i bet at least 70 percent were men fans. And obviously the marvels and ww 84 did much much worse than the originals. But that's because they weren't giving the fans what they were looking for either in that movie or the first turned them away. I'd bet ww 84 wasn't what people wanted in a wonder woman movie and the original captain marvel wasn't the story people were expecting and stayed away from it's sequel. No se xism involved. But the media and certain execs will twist it when confronted with valid criticism. It's getting very played out. And already if they were a horrible script and people hate it I'm prepared for them to claim " vampire fans don't like women" ... Underworld was popular enough to make like 6 movies... The resident evil movie were horrible but still found a way to make a dozen freaking movies... It's exhausting. It's almost like you have to start your criticism on the defensive. And point being it shouldn't even be considered criticism to say i want blade to be the main character of the blade movie... But i can already do the demonizing headlines...
I agree, I'm very bummed about the delays Blade's movie has been facing. Granted some if it is due to the pandemic and also the writer's strike. But I'm really hoping they get it together soon. The fact that they also want to do a Midnight Sons movie is encouraging and so Blade is even more important than before as he will be a key part of that team. Here's hoping we get some good news at D23!
