Maturing is realizing that 1D was not healthy for the members. They're the first celebrities I liked, and I still like them, but man they were messy. They're finally doing music on their own terms and I'm so happy for them.

Exactly. I recently got into them and I've talked about them to a friend of mine who also loves them. And we've talked about how scarily thin Zayn was, how exhausted they looked at times in interviews and concerts, how they performed sick and Niall even kept performing with an injured knee for F's sake. And they were putting out an album and tour literally every year when other artists usually sit on one album and tour for 2-3 maybe even more years. Its hard to be a fan yet realize the hell they went through while putting out the music we love so much

I love them with all my heart. I’m a huge Directioner. But they were treated horribly and it wasn’t healthy. And I’m glad they’re doing somewhat better
I avoided it until Niall solo career! Then I went back and was sad I missed it. It all seemed so entertaining, though the online fandom has taught me it's better to appreciate these things from a distance.

I've always been a Louis girl when I was a directioner but it honestly surprised me how well his solo career is going. We all knew that he was the main songwriter out of the boys and even though his solo albums aren't commercially successful, his fanbase is crazy dedicated. He is on his second world tour with tons of shows, he sells out arenas without a problem, has launched his own freaking festival and released a documentary about his career. Louis has always been looked over by non-directioners, but I'm just so happy to see him thriving in his own little "niche" : )
Actually that is so inspirational! He's doing his own thing, happy with it, has least drama, and people appreciate his work. I aspire to be that unbothered
his tour was the best moments of my life. i have always loved louis since day 1 and to see him selling out arenas now brings me so much happiness and makes me feel immensely proud

I agree with you. Simon was a horrible manager. In the 1D days they were sometimes sad but kept it hidden but now they are so much happier and doing what they love and what they want. I am to a directioner and I miss the boys so much.
I will never forget the absolute chaos that ensued after it was announced that Louis was going to have a baby, and how the fandom was CONVINCED that Brianna had somehow trapped Louis with a pregnancy in order to ruin his and Harry/Eleanor's relationship. Some people were even sure the pregnancy was fake

I think it's pretty terrible that people (like grown ass men) blamed Perrie for Zayn leaving the band which they think broke up the group,rather than acknowledging the appaling and inexusable racism and islamofobia he experienced. (so I COMPLETLEY agree but wanted to add that a lot of hate and blame was directed at people who didn't deserve it which is rarely acknowledged)
I think Liam struggled a lot with having to let go of the 1D past. He had the group built around him and when the rest of the group wanted to go separate ways, he didn’t want to let go.
I’m not sure that’s entirely accurate. I think that the group was built around him, but he’s the one band member that altered his voice to suit the aesthetics of the band. He also sang the most during their live tours, trust me when they went on hiatus he needed it as much as the others. Although like Louis when they went on hiatus he believed that they’ll be back in 2 years. He only realised that wouldn’t be the case years later, plus he couldn’t narrow down his solo sound. That’s why it seems like he held onto the band reuniting more than the others.
@@debrasnipes7431 i think just like Casey said, it was meant for Liam to be the "leader"of the group (Nicole Scherzinger even said so in the video where they are putting them together) because he was strongest in the beginning, he had the confidence, the voice and the stage presence. At that time all the other guys had one but not the other. The group was meant to be center around Liam but in the end the fans chose Harry as the stand out.
@@debrasnipes7431. The band WAS formed around Liam. After his claims to Jake Paul regarding that, I really looked into it and I found out that he was right. Many statements made by Simon indicate that. Liam definitely had the best audition, and the best voice out of all the boys. It’s too bad that he wasn’t chosen as a solo finalist, but then he might not have made it, and we would never have had 1D. Simon definitely formed 1D to keep Liam, and right from judges’ house on, he was given the lead voice position, that staying the same for the first 2 1/2 yrs, when the lead varied a bit.
Watching the rise and fall of 1D in real time was INSANE. When you look back on it, so much happened in such a short amount of time. Imagine having a band come into fruition in and then fall apart in the span of 6 years? My fave running joke is that Act My Age was Zayn’s last straw.

directioners and army fighting is so funny to me cs i used to be a directioner and i'm currently an army. They both had/have their success and both will go in history books. It's just so crazy to me how fanwars between those 2 fandoms still exists while both groups showed their respect and support for each other (harry taking a picture with some bts members backstage at his concert. I mean nobody expected that) So like where does it make sense?

looking back at it i CANNOT believe we ever actually believed they were coming back after the "hiatus" LMAO . through the years it was very obvious how unhappy they were , mainly stemming from the simple fact that their own musical creativity was seriously limited . my directioner years feel like a fever dream honestly , but it's so fun to reminisce about how happy all their content made us . louis was such a strength to me in particular even after 1D when his mother and sister passed , i always admired his endurance and kindness . i'm glad i had those boys in my youth to bring me joy . i had 1D in childhood & now i have BTS in adulthood
The fact that some Directioners seriously believe that 1D will come back makes me shake my head. I became a fan of all the members after they all went solo. But let’s be honest: they won’t ever reunite. Do they seriously think they will sing their boyband pop songs? Especially Harry after he released „Harry’s House“? They are men in their 30s now and I honestly don’t understand why some Directioners still think they will come back. Of course Niall and Louis will say when asked that they will come back. They wouldn’t say „oh no, we’re not“. But we all know, they won’t and that’s totally fine. Let these men develop their own music and careers.
They were the ones who made the fake expectations that they will come back specially Niall and Harry. They were the ones who gave us the timeline of 18 months. So it's quite natural for the fans to wait for their comeback

You can't Deny the fact that when you first discovered one direction they looked perfect, everything about them was so perfect that you'd never even think about their possible reality. It had to be this many years for everything to gradually unveil in front of us

I’m 20 now (the age that the members were during their peak) and I have to say I admire how well they handled everything. I know a few years down the line, everything fell apart (as it should’ve) but regardless they pushed through. If I were to be put under that amount of pressure at my age I’d lose my mind
I’m about to turn 22 and can barely handle a little handful of stress. I really admire how well they handled it. They definitely felt the stress and they’ve spoken about it in interviews after the breakup and it sounds awful. I can’t believe they were able to keep going for so long without showing the effects of all that stress. I wouldn’t have been able to handle that if I tried.
When zayn left, I was having an awesome day at school. I had just started dating my long time crush, life was amazing. I walked to the gas station before I came home and got a slushie as a special lil treat and when I walked in and sat down on the couch, my sister turned on like E! News and it was breaking news 😭 I sat there sadly sipping my slushie and violently pouting until I broke tf down, said nothing to my sister and went to my room. I called my boyfriend and cried to him on the phone for two hours before passing tf out for 15 hours 😂😂 shout out to my bf for staying w me after that fiasco and never forget 🫡🫡
I think that one thing that was left out was the struggles that each of the boys had while they were in the band. Zayn with his eating disorder and threats against his actions or the FreePalestine tweet, Liam with his alcohol problem and the possibility of committing suicide in 2014 (the photo that was taken on top of the building), Niall with being body shamed along with him being treated badly by 1D management, Harry being harassed by people or being called a womanizer, Louis having to deal with the stress from Simon along feeling ignored and later on dealing with the death of his mother, writing 38 songs between 2013-2015 on those 3 albums to feel like he is a part of the band. How if they were to stay together, they would "kill each other". That the band was experiencing horrible things mentally and physically. Being forced to write songs in a matter of days because management forced them. They are always being followed and having videos taken of them from places that should be private and not seen by outsiders, The struggles they had while in this band is something that was missed from this, and I feel it's important to mention that when thinking of how messy this band was. Now don't get me wrong, they were amazing and had so many positive things, I love them, I still do, and will always have a small bit of hope they do a reunion tour, (or at least a reunion just as friends) and they did many things to contribute to society and bring a smile to people's faces, but they also struggled so much that when talking about 1D, these topics are often looked over when they are equally as important. I love one direction, but I also think this time in 2023 is their period of healing and reconnecting with the other band members. I also want to say that these are from the source, directly from the boys, or by the fans connecting the dots along the way.
Zayn suffered from racism and islamaphobia from the moment he joined 1D. When he was a Muslim People would ask him insensitive questions and mock him constantly, going as far as making extremist jokes and talking in Arabic to him even though he is not an Arab, he’s half Pakistani and only speaks a little bit of Urdu. Even after he said that he left the religion people still mention it to him. From all the hate, prejudice and misinformation being spread about him, there is no wonder why he had anxiety and issues with his image.(I also heard that he didn’t like 1D music direction and wanted to try something else). The free Palestine tweet that Zayn made was only recent. It wasn’t when he was in the band. Zayn’s then girlfriend Gigi is half Palestinian and her father had to flee his country so that he doesn’t get killed by Israelis. It’s so disgusting how people attacked him for that. I guess standing up for children that are getting killed is bad to them.
@@torilan2672 when you're in a group, people always have to label you, find the differences between you and the other members. anything that makes you stand out? BAM people are going to jump on that. If you're of a different ethnicity, race, religion, cultural background, religion... um also things like weight (like jesy being singled out in little mix) and so on... and i can't speak for what he felt or anything, it's not like i know him , but obviously zayn's experience of racism and discrimination would've added a whole other dimension to the nightmare of being in a world famous boyband that the other members wouldn't have had to deal with. always being singled out as the "other" while being in a band so unbelievably famous- like i can't even imagine. maybe feeling like you're on top of the world but somehow you still don't belong, or you're not accepted as much as the others? i mean i don't know i'm just speculating. but i would be very surprised if he didn't feel that way, at least a little.

Iirc the reason they disbanded was because they wanted to quit while they were still popular, because at that point no-one actually knew how long a group could last. I think they only lasted 3 years, which is wild when you think about groups these days staying together for over a decade

I'm just gonna say that I'll be forever grateful with my directioner era cause I was fully convinced one day I'll meet them, that I decided it was time to actually learn English. And, since I didn't have money, I used their songs, interviews and etc as study plan/teaching materials.

I lost it at "The fuck is a chonce?" amazing clip. I actually wouldn't mind an even deeper dive into their drama. I knew of them and liked a few singles, but I wasn't a directioner.
In hindsight, the fact that the band were underage and not ever supervised by their parents on tour and allowed to essentially be groomed by Simon and the industry, was just very problematic. They had to be suffering mentally. So I'm glad they all got out and are hopefully getting all the therapy ever.

I'm glad you brought up that Liam was popular at the beginning, during the xfactor era he was definitely pushed as the front man. I think a lot of people don't know that Liam had already auditioned for xfactor 2 years before and was put in the group bc Simon saw something in him, it's not incorrect for Liam to have assumed 1D was created to help push him as a solo artist.
I was in my first and hopefully only toxic relationship when Zayn left. I was 15 and I had just fought with my boyfriend. I was mad at him but the moment I read One Direction's post I immediately forgot about him leaving me or staying. It didnt matter anymore because Zayn was out of One Direction, at that point any man could hurt me.

I was and always will be a Niall girly. I remember the #letniallsing I wrote it on a piece of binder paper and taped it to my door so anyone who came into my room knew where my priorities lied. My mom and I are going to see Niall next year on The Show tour! In my mind, Niall and Harry have had the most success after 1D
They definitely have had the most success, which makes me ecstatic because Niall has always been my fav , Zane would have probably been more successful than Niall if he kept on making music since he is so easily marketable

Niall also thought it would be short lived. One reason he went off back packing for a couple of months. Both he and Louis were devastated at the band breaking up. Louis did say at one time that he and Niall were hugging and crying behind the scenes. They are the most similar of the boys
I cannot stress how much my life revolved around one direction during those years. My teacher let me go home early on March 25th because of how devastated I was, I had diarys upon diarys full of drawings, fan fictions and love notes to one direction. Every inch of my space was coated in one direction. I was a fucking psychopath and I miss those unhinged years
I was busy with homework on the 25th and didn’t go on social media all day so I didn’t end up hearing about it until my friends broke the news to me at school the next day. For the first 15 minutes or so I thought they were joking with me because they had a tendency to pull pranks, but then I searched it up and realized they weren’t lying. My friend and I sat next to each other in class, I think it was math and we were both crying and the teacher came up to us multiple times to ask if we were alright. We just said we were fine because we didn’t want to talk about it. That was the saddest day I had ever experienced at that age and I seriously thought that worse pain than what I was feeling was impossible. I was so dramatic I cried every day for a week.
in 2014, when I was 15, I wore a shirt that said “it’s a snake habitat turn around” to my one direction concert to sort out the real fans, who naturally would run up to me and we would be best friends. no one did.

in reference to lp1 i agree it’s def not his best work but it makes me so sad that he bought a lot of the songs instead of writing them himself, he obviously has talent as seen in his songwriting in 1d but i wish we got to see more of it. also vocally, he has such an amazing range but for the most part it wasn’t really present in lp1. he’s really an amazingly talented and good guy, he was just going through a lot and had a lot of pressure on him to be different and put something new out at the time i think.
me too! i knew who 1D was in the mid-2010s but wasn’t into them, yet i read so many wattpad fanfics related to 1D 😂 i learnt all their names & their personalities, heck even their 🍆 size (which was something i didn’t care about but was in a few stories)
it’s honestly so funny looking back at everything as an adult, but it was genuinely such a fun part of growing up for me. realizing the kind of turmoil they dealt with at insanely young ages does make me glad that things ended fairly early. i also don’t really want them to get back together for countless reasons but would love if 5-10 years from now they did a little appearance or something for the old directioners to reminisce

lets be honest the reason why 1D got even a chance to start was because of their looks, they did work on their talent later and deserved the success they got but at the beginning the only way you can justify that they made it there was looks.
I remember being so proud of Zayn for being the first to say "enough" & leaving. maybe he could have done it differently, more gentle to the fans but I was happy for him, because he chose himself. And I love his solo music, you can finally hear Him and literally His mind, beautiful. But I'm always gonna genuinely love "Four", such a good album. in general I think them splitting was for the best for everyone of them.
I honestly don’t blame Ho May all. I wasn’t a die hard fan of one direction, casual listener but as I realized what happened after they part ways and their story. It’s clear Zayn wasn’t treated fairly by fans and faced a lot of racist comments. Not to mention I think the group’s own mismanagement was harmful on all of them. Being as a group while a good experience for them, was also probably rily hard for all of them mentally and physically. Didn’t want of them struggle with their body? Stress?
Yes and I know it was a hard decision for him to make too leave back then but I know he did it for him and his mental health and I’m so proud of him 💜.

Never stanned any boy group/ boy band after 1D. Being 10 and going absolutely feral for a group of teenage boys up until I was 15 was an incredible experience that can only happen once in a lifetime for me 😊 I couldn't go to any of their concerts before, but I am hella proud to say that the first ever concert that I went to was love on tour. And oh boy, my childhood dreams were FULFILLED.
agree with the liam thing. he's definitely weird rn but he was the only member with a good audition (since it was his second audition and he improved in those two years) and he wrote a good number of their songs. as much as i hate him you cant leave him out. also wished you talked about the racism zayn faced while he was in the band and how the members did nothing about it. its definitely interesting
My high school gf had a directioner phase, and I, weird little emo-theatre kid-gremlin hybrid that I was, decided to serenade her with little things once. Important note that this was also during the glee era and our friend group decided that singing to each other at school was appropriate and not annoying at all. It was just as cringe and you can imagine.

LITERALLY SAAAMEE!!! I got into 1d when I was around 8 (and despite that I studied English at school its literally thanks to them that I speak the way I do now) because so was my sister into them and those songs made me realize I loved singing as well as helped me with English!
Same here. When I was a kid speaking in English was hard for me but when I found out about One Direction and when I started listening to there music it improved my English skills and now I am doing so better with the subject than before and I can speak in English so much better. Thanks you one direction for everything.
I think Liam's audition is better than the others' because he had auditioned the year before and got notes on his performance. I don't believe he got very far the year before they were formed though
This was a damn nostalgic ride to my teenage years. It was when Justin was at his peak fame, out of nowhere a boy band emerged out of X factor and they stole the show literally overnight and deemed as the next Beatles. Now I need to listen to the boy band’s discography. It feels like this was the last band to create such a wave among an intended audience.

unfortunately at age 12 i wrote "LNS" on everything I owned so i never forgot about the let niall sing movement. hearing someone else acknowledge it is the biggest whiplash i've ever experienced
I was too young for 1d and so I don't remember much of the internet culture or dramas surrounding them but I vividly remember girls at my school who'd bring 1d bags, stationary and basically anything you could think of and begging my mum for them (btw we were all like 6/7). The only thing I ever got was a 1d pencil which I was too afraid to use because I was scared of sharpening off one of their faces 😔
Too bad his 2nd album wasnt up to expectations and was too long for people's liking. Also no promo. But in terms of quality he brings out the best. Harry's radio friendly, Niall's genre is likeable but sometimes cheesy music throws me off but put into alot of effort, Louis practicing his songwriting skills & doing what he likes which he'll improve overtime, Liam's generic no music direction and originality. Though to my surprised with the general public in stores, restaurants and such alot of the group's music/Niall's music has been more played often.
@@TheSkinnyZ He got actually the best solo discography among them if I'm being honest, he's just not as recognized because he isn't interested in fame anymore. He will never have a proper tour, or promo, he said a lot he didn't wanted to and we cannot blame him considering how much he suffered in there.
Zayn's music is my go to spot every day. His voice puts me at ease. Harry's music is my daily pep talk. He brings me alive. Niall's music is so soothing. Liam's are catchy but cringy at times. As for Louis, I can't enjoy it cuz its overun by Larry's and their dumb conspiracy theories.

we can cringe all we want but we never were as happy as we were during our 1d stan era and I'm sure most of us couldn't find yet another artist or band to be obsessed over and dedicate our twitter account to. everyday I wake up and think deeply on the fact that I got to live during that time and in a way I think I'm the most privileged girl alive no kidding
To be fair, the reason a lot of 1D fangirls couldnt find another band or artist to obsess over again is probably because you finished going through puberty, your hormones weren’t out of control anymore, and you grew out of the desire to absolutely obsess over a group of extremely average white boys (Ik zayn isn’t white but you get my point) 💀

I am so glad I spent my teenage years part of this madness, and I’m so serious. I have so many hilarious memories to look back on and lifelong friends. It truly was absolute chaos but I loved it all
1D's "hiatus" still affects us all today. A group even tries to go on hiatus and people are CONVINCED they won't come back. 1D are the exception not the norm 💀

My boy band is the Jonas Brothers, but I was definitely still a teen at the time that 1D blew up and I followed their big songs. this was a fun trip down memory lane! I'm glad you included the fanfic because all I could think about was "my parents sold me to one direction"
