Can you drive from Alice Springs to Uluru in a 2WD family car and how is Telstra or Optus mobile coverage in between?

Yes the main way in is all bitumen. We are with Telstra and we have a booster installed which helps give us better service so not sure what it is like without it but for us it was just like other outback areas it comes and goes as you enter and leave towns, roadhouses and stations.

Every summer gets the spectacular lightning storms in Uluru - Kata Tjuṯa and I loved to watch the lightning and the rain falling on the ground. Summer is the time of the year with the hot temperatures on the desert and the thunderstorms build up in evening hours. The heat thunderstorms build up in desert during the summer monsoon season and drink a lot water when you hike in Uluru -Kata Tjuta.
