How is this the truth? So much of his criticism is subjective. He harps on the NAME of the company and one of the watches names too, he also harps on the TRENDINESS. None of those things makes a brand objectively suck. It's not the "truth" and honestly it just comes off as elitist. Most people don't give a shit about watches. They just want something that, in their opinion, looks good and works. I don't see the issue with that. Not saying there's nothing to criticize, they're lower quality and overpriced but 90% of this video isn't focused on that. There's very little "exposing" them here, it's an opinion piece. Also, I just went and looked at their site. Explain how does it look like a press kit? It looks like every other clothing store I've been on. IMO this dude is really reaching for criticism and just feeding a circle jerk among watch enthusiasts. Don't let your community be like this, it's just going to push people who want to get into watches away.
@1in7.8b

Yuri Tereshyn I agree that it’s nice of these guys to support RU-vidrs, no argument there. It’s likely a personal thing but generally I only feel good about myself if I’m pushing a product that’s legitimately decent. Maybe my tune would change if I was trying to make a living on RU-vid and grasping at all avenues of income here, but since that is definitely not the case, my thought process is different. Gratuitous marketing of the same product across every channel can get a little annoying so I just skip through for now. That aside, thanks for the 2019 RDX review. Picked up the advanced model for my wife’s grad present and it’s fantastic. 👌

@SteBradburyDesign
@SteBradburyDesign 6 лет назад
Their watches are cheap and minimalistic, exactly what I look for because I don't see the point in spending hundreds of pounds on a watch because at the end of the day it just tells the time. I love minimalist design, and their watches capture that, so I genuinely think they look cool and for the price, i'm more than happy to buy them. That's just my personal opinion, I know a lot of watch enthusiasts will get annoyed at this comment but again, it's an opinion.

@SteBradburyDesign
@SteBradburyDesign 6 лет назад
Leon Pearce No... no it’s not. Apply that logic to anything else. So clothes, for example. Are cheap clothes and insult to those who have been making high quality clothes for centuries? No, it’s a cheaper alternative for people who either aren’t bothered about the quality, or simply can’t afford expensive clothes. Is someone on minimum wage supposed to go an buy a Rolex, or an Omega? Obviously not. People I’ve to live by their means, and trying to live beyond your means usually ends badly. Just think about it from the consumers perspective, and not a watch collector/fanatic’s perspective.
@JankyChris
@JankyChris 6 лет назад
@@SteBradburyDesign I don't think most watch enthusiasts would hate on MVMT & co. as much as they do now if they'd sell their watches for say 30-50$ instead of 130-150$. I have nothing against cheap minimalist quartz watches and I understand that a mechanical watch is not the right thing for everyone. What bugs me is that they pretend to be a high quality, luxury manufacturer while producing their watches for minimal cost. It's that artifical sense of prestige that lets them sell these watches for a lot more than they are worth. This is not limited to watches.. You see more and more companies that sell cheap products (nothing wrong with that) for a really high price (thats whats wrong) because they pretend like their products are of great quality
@SteBradburyDesign
@SteBradburyDesign 6 лет назад
JankyChris Yeah I totally understand it from that perspective too, and I agree, they do present themselves as a high-end product, which I do think they should be allowed to do, however, they should be a bit more transparent imo. I perfect example is Supreme. They literally sold a brick with the Supreme logo and they sold out instantly... I guess a lot of people like to buy things simply for the name. But yeah, I agree with your statement, they do present themselves as something they’re not which I guess is a bit dishonest, but it also seems to be normal practice in sales, not that it makes it right. Thanks for thinking about it rather than just bashing me for defending MVMT in some regards, not enough thinkers on here haha

They tell you it's a $500 watch that they can offer for only $130 because they "cut out the middle man". Yet you can buy them (unbranded) off aliexpress, made in the exact same manufacturing plant, for $3.50. It's insulting, but the worst part is that marketing strategy worked flawlessly. What I think the absolute worst about MVMT is, is that they’re not even original designs. Most of their watches are the generic Chinese watches you can put your logo on and have mass produced. For example, if you go on something like Aliexpress you can find that exact ‘chronograph’ without their logo on it for around $5. And I feel that is just not acceptable, especially at the price point they’re selling these at. For the same money you can get fantastic original designs from an actual watchmaking brand, with a proper movement that will last you forever if you take care of them.
@JHA854
@JHA854 6 лет назад
AutomotiveRomance it’s a pretty common practice to import products from China and sell them in western markets at much higher prices. Let’s say they spend $5 on each watch, maybe another $5 on fancy packaging. Then a majority of the cost goes into marketing. They spend a ton on marketing, they’re like Beats of the watch world. You’re paying the $150 because they spent so much money to sell that watch to you. But Amazon is full of Chinese products that you could get for a fraction of the price if you bought direct. People don’t realize or don’t care, so they pay. I bet most people buying a MVMT watch assume that it’s designed and manufactured by this brand that seemed to come out of nowhere.
@AutomotiveRomance
@AutomotiveRomance 6 лет назад
J : Sure, I know how it works and I totally agree with you. Their marketing strategy just rubs me the wrong way, though I must admit they’re great at marketing. The sheer volume of watches they move is a testament to that. But if I have to see one more automotive youtuber peddling these inferior wastes of money as ‘affordable luxury’, I think I’m gonna be sick.

MVMT , Movado, ....etc are smart watch makers they realize that people who buy watches are 2 types :either true watch enthusiasts who look for true value and automatic movement etc. These are the minority. The other group if watch buyers simply want something that tells time and trendy looking for a gift or self use . This is the land sliding majority they have very shallow knowledge about how to properly evaluate watches. For a business model (I. E going for $$$) These fashion watch companies are doing the right thing.

Hello, “5 reasons i hate mvmt watches =/= exposing mvmt”. I don’t really care if you like their style or not (I came from recommended). However, investigating their quality is worthwhile, whished you’d gone deeper into that. Perhaps Opening one up to check quality, and providing alternatives further than just quick namedrops. Also all the complex terminology ( loom, complication and even movement) is not explained, seemingly making this a video geared towards watch (timepiece) fanatics, who are already quite unlikely to disagree with you. So I feel like this video has a bit of an identity crisis, and an unclear audience. Cheers mate, cool omega and yeah clear frames are pretty cool

@@maulanna Watches, like jewelry, are a very subjective and personal thing. Buy and wear whatever you like personally. I've seen people wear $200.00 plastic Gucci brand sunglasses that are the exact thing as mass-produced plastic sunglasses that cost $3.00 without the Gucci label. It's their choice though, and I guess they were happy with it. There are hundreds of good watch brands out there, all you have to do is pick one that doesn't prioritize trend over functionality. MVMT would not even exist without having artistic pictures of young and hot bodies wearing them. The dislikes on this vid seen rather high for an opinion piece on fashionable but low quality watches. Myself, I wear cheap watches. $20-$40 max. I just like a reliable quick way to keep time, and I tend to abuse them. I was planning on eventually getting a higher end watch solely so I could have something fancy for special occasions. And honestly I was probably going to get a MVMT just because of all the adds I've seen saying how nice they are. I thought there was no way they could be bad watches with all the hype they get. But I would rather pay for quality than pay for a brand. Thanks for setting me straight.

If it's just there to look okay and tell the time 150$ isn't bad. But I personally would prefer something with weight and life to it. And three years? There's nothing wrong with buying a cheap watch if you just want something that tells you a good approximation of the time, particularly if you know that you abuse watches and/or want it as a fashion accessory. I have a $3 watch in my collection just for looks, and a couple of cheap Timex quartz watches I can wear as a daily beater when I don't want to have a few hundred dollars of watch on my wrist. (My collection isn't *super* expensive yet, but there are some watches that are a bit nicer than the rest.) Nice watches are *nice*. It's pleasant to have something of real quality on your wrist, and some of my nicer watches (and even one or two of the cheap ones) have sapphire glass, which is actually made of sapphire (aka "transparent aluminum") and can only be scratched by a sapphire or a diamond, so I can wear them and not fear the glass getting scratched up.

T3 is swiftly sounding like a hater. MVMNT, Invicta, Movado, he loves to shit on all these brands.I know he means well, but it seems to be trendy for some watch enthusiasts to put down watches that aren't in their narrow definition of what is good, and look down on people who choose to wear them. I actually share a similar taste with T3, more particularly, his love of Seiko. I own a PADI Turtle, an Alpinist, and a Cocktail time and his opinions on 2 of those watches are spot on. However, I think he's getting carried away with all the negativity lately. Like it or not, cheaper brands are a gateway to the hobby for many. And since we all love this hobby, let's share it and help it grow. Let's not put down and alienate the newcomers. Let's be positive and talk about why Seiko and other more established brands are better. Wear what you like. At the end of the day, it's a watch and it's all subjective. We all have different reasons for liking them.

I'm sure a $20,000 Rolex probably costs like $300 to make, a $1000 Movado probably costs $50 to make, etc... Mvmt is just shifting the goalpost to: $100 watch, $10 to make.

The "trendy" comment is exactly why I love MVMT watches. I don't need a watch to tell time (who does these days?). I want something that looks good and goes with my professional attire and doesn't cost thousands of dollars for an antiquated item, the intended purpose of which has effectively been replaced by a cell phone. Their watches look good and, in a pinch, will tell time closely enough for most of our purposes, which is what an accessory is designed to do.

I hate to say it but I have a MVMT, I use it pretty much every day. It’s just a fine watch, I’m just starting to really get into watches and I committed the deadly sin of getting a mvmt about 2 years ago, before I even knew watches had dials and gears instead of batteries (and I used to think quartz was what the face was made of.) If I need to just get up and go, I’ll get my mvmt. If I’m dressing up, I’ll get my Orient Bambino or my Grayton. Those are all my watches as of now so I don’t have much choice anyways.

As someone who owns a mvmt watch, I can say that these watches are not for you. They are for people who don't know a lot about watches and just want one that looks nice that doesn't cost a million dollars. I don't care what movement is in my watch. It tells me the time and looks nice. Honestly, a watch is only an accessory. I have a phone that tells me what time it is. The watch could literally be broken and serve the same purpose. Mvmt has great customer support (I broke mine, sent it in, and got a new one absolutely free) and they know how to market themselves. I say all of this knowing that it won't convince a single one of you that mvmt is a good brand, because you're very passionate about watches and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm in plenty of communities where I passionately debate the quality of stuff, but watches just aren't something I care that much about. That's who mvmt is for. People who want a nice looking thing on their wrist that doesn't break the bank. "But there are better and cheaper brands that do just that!" you might be thinking. Well, like I said, I don't know about watches, but I know about mvmt. They capitalized on this market in a way no one else has and the product, for my money, is... fine. No complaints from me.

Fair enough on the concerns. I got mine, the chronograph you were referencing, for free - we visited their office for a meeting. I think you’re on point with your thoughts on them selling the brand to influencers, but I had another thought when I saw it; it reeks of trying to sell the company to me. Like, actually sell the corporation off. It’s the classic Silicon Valley Startup model, executed as lazily as possible: create a bare-minimum product, build a flashy website and hip branding, market the hell out of it, brag about how successful the business is, and then sell to some bigger corporation for a bunch of money. It’ll probably work for them too, it’s just unfortunate that millions of customers will suffer because they were sweet-talked into buying a watch from a cockroach instead of a watchmaker.

A month after this was posted, Movado, who you rightly compared them to, acquired bowel MVMT for $100-$200m, the range apparently depends on performance. Unlike most watch manufacturer web sites, there is little to no data about the actual watch, and without any info, it is correct to assume the cheapest materials possible were used to create the watch for maximum profit. There are a lot of clothing makers who make fancy looking watches, you can get them very cheap at Macy's I've seen, and rather than $150 range, they're less than $30. Or just try Aliexpress for no branding and lower prices.

I'm not a watch guy. My specialty is knives, shoes, and firearms. That said, I saw in some random catalogue a Stauer Graves 33 back in '08 and I fell in love with the design, the look, and ultimately purchased one. That was my introduction to watches. I still wear it, I still love it, et cetera. I've never had any issues with it. That said, I purchased an MVMT not too long ago based solely on appearance and O haven't had any problems with it, aside from that it's size bruised my wrist for a second before I adjusted it. Nothing about the watch feels flimsy in the slightest. It has remained accurate for as long as I've worn it. It's aesthetically pleasing. Would I wear it to work? No, but I don't work in a fancy office where everything is clean and I get to pretend I know what's best for the working class because my desk lamp and trashcan are voice activated. Everything I use gets the hell beat out of it. Is this a watch for those conditions? Probably not, but I'm not about to put it to the test. Does it look fantastic and can I dress it up or down based on occasion? Yes. Will I pass it down? I don't know and I don't care. For the time being, it serves me well, it's accurate, it looks good, it's relatively versatile, and I enjoy it. Every industry has its pretensions, especially the knife industry which flip-flops like the Roman Senate. I don't think the opinions of "established" collectors should determine whether or not you purchase a product. Should you hear what they have to say? Sure. Should you listen? That's up to you and you should never feel like your purchase of choice is anything less than you originally believed it to be based on someone else's opinion. If you like it, buy it. If it turns out to be something you don't like, it can be sold. For example, in the knife industry, a lot of people would tell you the Buck 110, for all of its simplicity and materials, isn't worth your money. The reality is Buck has been producing that knife for decades and it's a flawless design. It has gotten the job done for perhaps millions of buyers that adore it, but because the blade isn't S90V steel and it can't be disassembled, modern critics would tell you it's outdated and isn't worth your roughly $55. I've had a Buck for a decade and I've never had to sharpen it despite years of use. I feel like the modern market is filled with people telling how and what you should buy, but very few people telling you how YOU SPECIFICALLY should buy. Why? Because that's impossible. If it calls to you, buy it. If it doesn't, but someone on RU-vid told you it's fantastic so you bought it anyway, you will never be satisfied. Does that mean you should listen to mindless endorsements? Absolutely not. But be an individual in your spending choices and learn what works for you. I like my Mvmt, and I couldn't give two ounces of the slightest shit if the most well established watch critic in the whole of the known cosmos said it was garbage. I like it. It does what I need it to do.

No one here truly understands what MVMT was. MVMT started as a dropshipping company, if you don’t know what that is then look it up because that’s a whole other topic. Anyway MVMT started by basically buying watches off of AliExpress which is a Chinese wholesale company and they white labeled them. White labeling is basically putting you brand name on something that already exists, so MVMT wasn’t even making the watches they were literally buying them for probably 5 dollars, slapping there brand on them and jacking up the price. MVMT was doing so well movado actually bought them out for 100 million, and now the people who were selling Chinese watches are rolling in the dough and will never have to work another day in their life.

Just my two cents, for a person like me who doesn't know much about watches. A watch is nothing but just an accessory to add the cool factor to my look, or if it's an apple watch, then it's a tool. The watch you're wearing to me, it looks ugly, it could be the best watch in the world who knows (except for the 0.001%), but if it doesn't look good to the regular person, then I don't know. If it were a Rolex or something of that sort, then it's an entirely different thing. But for a $100 if it looks good to me and if it works, then it works. Also, I do get where you are coming from, you want something on your wrist that always reminds you of your worth.

I have 3 MVMT watches and I love them. They fit my style and I've never had any problem with them. They're not marked for you since you're advertising a $500 watch in your description
