Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, or ARFID, can often manifest in fear of certain food textures, smells, or appearances. Many people who struggle with ARFID are neurodivergent, but the aversions can also stem from traumatic experiences around eating, such as choking.
For many people with ARFID, exposure therapy can be a really effective way to safely and strategically reintegrate foods into your life.
