This guy is a news producer's dream. Just give him a microphone and you have an entire bulletin complete with car crash anecdotes and visuals.

This is HEAVY. I’ve never met my dad and I’m feeling ok all of a sudden.

If you EVER feel heartbroken about growing up without a father figure - just remember that this guy could've been your father. This is so sad and unreal to watch and listen to.

They should turn this into an anti-meth PSA. That dude is lit up like a christmas tree!

After watching this man for 20 minutes I am officially quitting drugs. Immediately

He behaves the way he does not only because hes a drug addict, but also because hes been in nearly 60 MMA fights. Hes been knocked out more than a dozen times in his career. Not to mention all the times hes been rocked in sparring. He clearly wasn't a well adjusted person before he began his career. Combine years of head trauma and drugs and you end up with this guy.

The question is not if he was an awful dad, that is soooo obvious from the first moment. The question is how he can be like that and still walking and driving in the roads or even standing on his feet

this is insane. Late 90's this guy was a hell of an athlete. Actually fought in the UFC. His last ufc fight was against a guy who is remarkably still fighting in the ufc. Got addicted to drugs and porn and went downhill fast. He's not lying either, he was on an episode of Intervention.

"We don't do gay. Massive amounts of drugs, but no gay."

The interviewer is doing an excellent job with their tone of voice and gentleness…and holding back the reaction of “did you just say you’re glad he isn’t gay after I told you he killed five random people”

This man shows how life is worse than any horror film.

He's more concerned about his kid being gay then him murdering 5 people and injuring 18 others. Real stand up guy.

I watched this drunk and felt sober immediately. Its just sad. He did open his heart at the end.

This is why Alex Jones thinks this kind of stuff is made up. It presents like an Onion fake joke interview. "A Mormon republican's son shoots up a gay bar. The father was quite concerned with the news but was relieved after confirming that his son was not himself gay." It is literally a top tier comedian's bit.

This is sadly fascinating. If this were in black and white and he was sitting on a tall chair we'd see it on Soft White Underbelly.

This tells you how important being good parents are. It starts with you having it together, and putting the effort into being a caring parent. The two parents of this kid obviously didn't have it together. You can't say that every set of bad parents will produce a mass shooter (99.9% of kids don't become one) but if you have such a poor set of parents it opens the door...WIDE open, for bad things to happen.

This is how CTE, and permanent meth damage manifests. Addiction is a mental illness. Take care of yourselves, look out for one another. End the stigma against addiction. I respect him for being open and vulnerable about his addiction, and what it has done to him. The stigma of addiction instills shame and prevents people from getting the help they need. There is no reason to be ashamed, it is never too late to change, and you are not alone.

Wow he is 48. Drugs and porn really messed him up.

You can see fragments of morality and general parental love with this guy (hold my son accountable, misses his son and wants to see him), but it's so clear to see how addiction ripped any parental stability to shreds.

That was the most painful interview I have ever seen.

Reporter: “Sir, how do you feel about the tragedy?” Father: “Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a kaiser blade.”

This guy just admitted the attorneys told him that the shooter "was not gay". This is important because the shooter is claiming to be LGBT to wiggle out of hate crime charges.

I can not judge this man. I feel sad for him. I do appreciate him being honest about everything. I don't think he is a bad man, just a very ill man.

He could very well be high, or he can be clean and sober. This kind of "tweaking and nervous movements" often sticks around long after sobriety.

He’s out of control but he seems to care about his son, estranged or not. God it’s all so sad.

This is unnerving, yet relieving for me to watch. Only because I have been around guys like this my entire life, and having been, myself, a toxically, aggressive individual just the same. Watching this guy makes me realize the other direction my life could have taken and how close I came to being him. At 41 years old, I’m glad I never had kids, I was never fit to be a parent and an am grateful that whatever soul possibly could have came into my life, was spared. I believe I would have made some of the same mistakes, producing a similar individual as his son.

He was my neighbor in Oceanside. Sober and somewhat sane at the time. Cool dude but absolutely bat shit crazy that’s for sure.

This guy doesn't even know what happened with the shooting, and even after being told he was the "alleged" shooter, he still thinks that means they don't know who the real guy was. And he continues to think that no one was actually killed in the shooting.

It's like watching Josh Brolin giving the performance of his life.

This is so sad. With all its craziness you can see glimpses of real, human emotion and thought. He sees the wrong of what his son did. He knows he was a bad Dad. He has regrets but the drugs have ruined his brain.

It's so hard to watch a father basically say 'my son can kill as many people as he wants, as long as he doesn't sleep with any of them.' You're told your son is accused of murder and all he cares about, is telling people 'thankfully he's not gay.'

This dude's 48!! I'm 42 and I would have thought this guy was close to 60... I can't say I was completely innocent in my twenties.

This is the kind of parent we're worried about when Republicans try to pass bills forcing schools to expose gay kids.

Once you get past how bad a Dad this guy is, you see some sincerity in his concern for the families of the victims. He seems to realize that drugs have ruined his life.

He's a Conservative Republican but was very relieved after finding out that Colorado doesn't have the death penalty. I wonder what his opinion of the death penalty is when it's not his own flesh and blood.

So many of the comments here are pointing out that this is a toxic person. Yet the comments that are pointing that out are displaying toxicity. This interview is sad. This man just learned that his son, who's life he is absent in, committed murder. The things he says during the interview reveal that he feels sorry, ashamed, and has feelings of guilt. Perhaps he feels that if he were allowed to be in his sons life, that this may not have happened. No matter what struggles this man has faced throughout his life, try to imagine the different thoughts and feelings that must be going through his head. Then try to imagine dealing with those thoughts and feelings. Especially with the psychological issues this man has. He is trying to survive his own life, and is now worrying a out his son. I am sure he is questions whether or not he is responsible.

How quickly you all are to judge. The mirror is a good place to start judging

This guy said " I want my son to get away with this and be out of jail". What?!? I can understand not wanting to see your child in jail/prison but how could he not acknowledge what his son did was not ok and that its ok for a parent to want their child to be held responsible for their actions.
