Did a little research and found this kit can only be used on generators that have fuel pumps. Will not work on gravity fed units. If you have a gravity fed generator, you'll need a kit like the Pinellas Extended run kit that has a fuel pump built into it. Merry Christmas Gavin and all your viewers!
Merry Christmas Tom Yes the pump is used to prime the fuel line getting all the air out prior but if you fill your generator all the way to the top it will work
Thanks, if I didn’t watch your video at 1am in the morning by accident, I never would have vented the gas tank! I just didn’t think to do that and would have been having an anxiety attack wondering what I did wrong haha, same kit as yours. Yes, this is an-expensive kit but this kit uses high quality fittings allowing you to run just one generator without worrying about the unused line. The fittings are the quick disconnect type which makes it easy to put everything back away after use. I’ll spend extra and use non-ethanol gas in my Hondas. I might just spring for a propane kit at some point in the future for those times I just need the generator for a short time and don’t want to mess with getting fresh gasoline. Plus propane is so clean compared to gasoline fuel. Just my 2cents. Thanks for the videos.
I've been running a single Honda EU2200i with the 6 gallon system and it has been flawless. It is powerful enough to run my 11K BTU a/c on my camper. Now that I have a 13K BTU a/c, I'll need to run the Hondas in tandem. I'll only need the single generator in winter. Thanks for the video. Oh, and your grass looks amazing!
Hey. I have a 13,500 ac on my camper and you don’t need two generators to run it. Get a soft start for your a/c. Drops the Amps it takes to start the a/c big time. I run mine all night long with no issues!
I thought about the Berg but you can do it much cheaper on your own. My problem is I have to many neighbors and I have cameras and motion sensor lights, but I still check on them quite often. Might as well fill them up and check the oil at the same time.
I love how neat and tidy this setup is. I’m not a fan of others that cobble together bits and pieces to make a system similar. Yes it may work like that but it looks horrible. What you’ve done may not be the cheapest but damn it looks awesome. Great job 😁
For the long term, you may want to use the blue Teflon tape that's resistant to gas and stuff. You can look up specs. But the white can disintegrate when in contact to gas and petroleum products
@@danlux4954It will certainly "work" but I'm sure it's not UL approved. My biggest concern would be dealing with your insurance company if something happened
Great video! You are the go to source for generator information! This video solved the dilemma which I had regarding use of a pair of small generators and being handicapped by the native fuel tank's meager capacity. As I picked up Honda EU2200I and EU2200IC this afternoon, the only remaining question which I had was whether I needed to also a use a bonding plug when using the generator pair with my travel trailer. Thanks in advance.
@Gavin’s Garage: I really appreciate this video. I’ve traded my motorhome for travel trailer and it will require an external generator. I’m researching and learning from videos, and this video is the most helpful I’ve seen. One question I have is: Should I turn off the generator when I check the oil level each day?
Yes you should turn it off, let it settle for about a minute or two before checking the oil. That will allow all the oil to settle so you can get the correct level
Great video as always. Your the greatest source of information on generators that I've found. I assume this would also work on the ecoflow gas generators? The hardest part is probably figuring out which size cap to buy for it. Most kits I see are geared for the Hondas.
@@GeneratorReviews For sure man, With that extended tank kit you would have 14 gal of fuel to burn before having to refill which according to ecoflows website 1L of gas will make 1.35kw which would give you roughly 72kw of power from the fuel. Add the 14.4kw the delta pro setup holds youd have 86kw of power on tap during a outage. In a emergency situation youd be able to power most your essential for up to even a week before having to refuel. Add some solar panels and you can really stretch refills out. For a normal sized home there's really not much more anyone would ever need. Nice thing is you don't waste any power or fuel unnecessarily and if one component was ever to fail you should never be SOL with out power. If you ever look into adding the extended tank to the ecoflows please let us know. Hopefully the Honda cap is exactly the same as the ecoflo that would be nice lol. Thanks again for all the content man. Your a G
Great Video. I hope you see this question even though the video is a couple of years old. My question is, I have a RV with a 15K BTU AC with a soft start. I believe one Honda 2200i honda can run the AC, but nothing else at the same time. So, if I run two generators at the same time using this kit, it will be perfect, but what happens if I shut one generator down? Will the running generator try to syphon out of non-running generator?
Hi Gavin, great video. Really cool device. Do these work only for the Hondas or will these work with pretty much any generator? I have a single generator that's big enough in terms of power capacity so I won't need to do the dual setup, but need the extra tank capacity for additional run time. Thanks and seasons greetings.
Man, if the a-ipower 2700 I have coming works well I'm getting a second one and will do something similar so I can run more than one window AC and a TV lol. Those AC are funny. Some need so much to start but only run at like 600-800 watts.
@@MJF40 thanks. The confusion is gas and gasoline. White Teflon tape commonly found in the plumbing section will breakdown over time and is not recommended for gasoline. It works fine for gas, Propane and water lines. In the same small engine repair paragraph it says it can be used but not recommended. (Polytetrafluoroethylene) ptfe is a different Teflon tape and is gasoline resistant but says seals and resists pressure in air, oil, diesel fuel and hydraulic systems specifically. Searching there is confusion in gas and gasoline and "breaks down in time" (500years or 1hour?)
How did you separate the gas cap tether from the Honda OEM gas caps so you could use the fuel hose gas cap. Did you have to cut the gas cap tether or does it just pop off and on?
Hi Gavin, Great videos that have been vert helpful while searching for the right home back up generator. I have a question that may be a good topic for a video. I have not had any luck in forums. I recently ran in to an issue after installing a Generac home link transfer switch. I was planning to parallel two GP3300i’s when I realized the switch requires a 240 volt power source. Any idea on how you may be able to step up two 120 volt inverters to 240 volt power source?
Hi Jeremy, Thanks for watching, you can’t get 240v from paralleled 120v generator but you can use an adapter to connect to the transfer switch to power both leg. You will only be able to power up 120 V appliances. If you need to power 240V appliances You will have to get 120V/240V generator I hope this helps you let me know if you need any more help.
I'm considering buying a second generator and doing apparently kid versus buying Grand bigger 30-amp generator and selling my smaller 2000 watt generator
My question is…. HOW is the gas transferring from the large tank to the generators. If it’s not gravity fed, or a pump / fuel bulb in line , how is ⛽️ getting from the tank to the other tanks. I’ve built PLENTY of extended gas systems for generators and other equipment. But this makes no sense to me. Your just connecting 3 tanks together with a hose. Unless those tiny generators just run off of fumes/ gas vapors ha ha ha. Thanks for any input. Have a great day. 👍🏻
Since the tank is full of gas, once the engine starts running, it will create a vacuum. The vacuum forcing the gas from the tank into the generator. Trust me, it works.
In theory the air from the hoses wind up in the gennie tank. That’s why it’s important that the gennie tank is full from the start. I’ve never used this system.
Got everything on AMAZON. It was cheapest place to buy plus 5% back on Amazon Prime (shipping included, no problems with delivery, perfect service) which helped pay for a brand new Mystery Ranch 40 backpack. Nice. I even ordered spare spark plugs and oil and air filter so I would be totally set for Hurricane season. Oh yes, purchased a 30amp extension cord for hookup to box from my old big noisy generator, plus a couple of other types of generator cords….all heavy OUTDOOR 10 gauge copper wire, FOR ICING ON THE CAKES!
I have a system I bought ebay for my Westinghouse i2500 and the fuel won't transfer. The stock cap has to be left off for the generator to run, and then the same with the extended system. Any idea as to why that'd happen. It's a brand new generator to. Runs perfect with the caps off.
@@GeneratorReviews that's what I thought, the vent on the extended tank is definitely working, but when I put the cap that came with the generator on, it seems to choke out, and when I remove the cap it runs fine. I just don't know what would cause both caps stock/aftermarket to cause that issue.
@@4thGen4runner__ There’s probably a vent on the stock cap that needs to be opened. But I’d think you need that suction to pull gas out of the auxiliary tank.
@@jstins yeah that's the weird part. You would think the negative pressure would pull the fuel from the extra tank that is also sitting higher in elevation, but still no. Both the stock cap or extender cap with the fuel line attached to it and a primer bulb in line, still choke out the generator. But once I remove either cap and the tank top is open to fresh air, it'll run until the fuel is gone.
