Yeah, it's possible. I've been back a couple of times now. There's gold in all the nastiest, blackest sand. I have to climb up a cliff to get it back in my truck. If nothing else it's good exercise. -- Dave

Absolutely. You're gonna get tired of hauling it off the beach. Its much less work to bring your equipment down to it.

When using a silicon matting agent in spray form, it can enhance the friction necessary for capturing gold dust effectively. Additionally, employing a brush to create horizontal strokes on a shaker table can be beneficial. These strokes form small grooves that aid in directing fine particles. However, this technique might not be compatible with certain plastics. For particles ranging from +300 to -200 mesh, classifying them is advisable due to the varying settings required for optimal processing. Just food for thought.

Sounds like you are thinking of a miller table
@Jatslo
@Jatslo 6 месяцев назад
@@fittergrips2010 You might call it a hybrid, because the miller table employs a high-friction matting like silicon. In theory, you could spray matting on just about any surface. The trick is getting it to stick, but not stuck; although, it might work well with bigger pieces, as well. Rubber cement has a similar effect with friction trapping gold. I discovered that when some matting came undone; I saw the rubber cement actually trapping gold. Exploring hybrid methods in gold prospecting and refining by using high-friction materials like silicon matting is an innovative approach. The key challenge we've highlighted, achieving a balance between sufficient adhesion and ease of removal, is crucial for the effectiveness of these methods. The discovery of rubber cement's capacity to trap gold opens up possibilities for using unconventional materials in gold refining. Such unexpected findings often lead to the development of new techniques or the improvement of existing ones. In refining and prospecting, experimenting with different materials to understand their interactions with gold could lead to more efficient, cost-effective methods. It's important to consider the safety and environmental impact of these experiments. Collaborating with experts in material science or chemical engineering might provide valuable insights. Their knowledge of material properties and interactions could lead to enhanced techniques or new discoveries, potentially improving efficiency and yield in gold prospecting and refining. I was thinking of maybe experimenting with Flex Seal Spray Rubber Sealant Black Coating: The easy way to coat, seal, protect, and stop leaks fast! Once dry, it can be painted any color. Seeps into cracks and holes. Dries to a watertight, flexible, rubberized coating. Stays flexible and pliable; lasts many years. Transform and protect virtually everything! Ideal for arts & crafts, projects & hobbies Protects the surface from corrosion, can be used on wet or dry surfaces. Will not sag or drip in the Summer heat. Will not crack or peel in the Winter cold

My mind is telling me that the bumping of the table causes separation by mass. Is that correct ? I wonder if the depth of your slots are all equal. I'm pondering on whether the slot depth should be increased or decreased depending on their position on the table.

Yes, the groove depth is all the same for every groove, about 2 mm. -- Dave

How about using a blue bowl for the final separation after classification?

The pieces of gold flakes are flat(ish) as compared to the black sands (to be expected I suppose). What was interesting to me was that the sand grains in your view appeared to be of quite uniform size and shape and much smaller than the gold flakes (many of which were reasonably the same diameter). Any ideas why the uniform(ish) shape and size of sand and of gold? Some action of the table? Or just a feature of your particular samples?
@fittergrips2010
@fittergrips2010 6 месяцев назад
Classified material . the biggest material going through the classifier will also be followed by smaller pieces as well. Specific gravity is just one aspect of the material. Shape plays a big part in separation . I have in my sluice in one section only a (((old))) wool blanket to catch the flat flour gold , It is hard backed for easy cleaning. It is on a 24 degree angle and takes advantage of the angle of repose and hydraulic pressure of the water to move the blacks and blonds the gold stays in place
@orophilia
@orophilia 6 месяцев назад
Yeah, there's some complicated and interesting hydrodynamics going on in a sluice or shaker table. Clearly, the larger, flat gold particles settle and generally behave similarly to the smaller, less dense and round magnetite (black sand) particles.

Sir if I was going to be messing with some beach gold I'd probably build a flotation cell and use some pine oil in it and that should bring it up a lot quicker and a lot easier
@orophilia
@orophilia 6 месяцев назад
Hi David, I've never heard of that. How does that work? -- Dave
@davidtate4319
@davidtate4319 6 месяцев назад
A flotation sale in its basic Form is basically a garbage can as yourself use a large paint Stirer as your agitator and add some airAt the bottom to help bring up the values Pine oil is added in the froth flotation method to create froth or bubble so that metal can be purified easily because pine oil prevents the ore from gangue for further mixing. Pine oil also acts as the best substance for forming froth for the minerals@@orophilia
@Jatslo
@Jatslo 6 месяцев назад
@@orophilia The process involves the use of a flotation cell and pine oil for extracting gold, particularly from beach sands. This process is a part of the broader category of mineral processing techniques. Here's a general outline of how this works: Sample Collection: The first step is to scale down the cliff, collect sand from the beach that is suspected to contain gold, and then scale back up the cliff without getting yourself killed. Flotation Cell Setup: A flotation cell is a device used in mineral processing to separate different materials based on their physical and chemical properties. In the context of beach gold, the cell is designed to separate fine gold particles from other minerals and materials in the sand. Preparation of Slurry: The collected sand is mixed with water to create a slurry. The slurry is then poured into the flotation cell. The goal is to create a mixture where the gold particles are suspended in the liquid. Addition of Pine Oil: Pine oil, or a similar frothing agent, is added to the slurry in the flotation cell. Pine oil acts as a collector in the flotation process, meaning it selectively binds to the gold particles, increasing their hydrophobicity (tendency to repel water). Air Injection and Frothing: Air is injected into the slurry in the flotation cell. This creates bubbles. The pine oil helps form a froth at the surface. The hydrophobic gold particles attach to the air bubbles and rise to the surface, while the other materials remain in the water. Gold Collection: The froth at the top, enriched with gold, is skimmed off for further processing. This froth contains a higher concentration of gold than the original sand. Refining: The collected froth is then processed further to extract and refine the gold. This might involve melting and chemical treatments to purify the gold. This method is particularly useful for fine gold particles that are difficult to extract through traditional panning methods. The efficiency of the process depends on several factors, including the type of sand, the concentration of gold, and the specific setup of the flotation cell. Safety precautions are important when handling chemicals like pine oil and during the refining process. P.S. The material needs to be ground to a finer size to effectively suspend the particles in water and prepare a suitable slurry for the flotation process (Suspension is key).

I’d be interested to send you some of the sand I’m trying to process from a location on the Snake River in Idaho. I have tried every method I have at my disposal currently, and the gold is so fine that it doesn’t like to separate from the black sand. I am starting to seriously look at building my own shaker table.
