I take my son and nephew on a local extreme 4x4 track for a epic day wheeling a technical 4X4 track as best we can. The young fellas do some great spotting. I had my Toyota Bundera RJ70. Twin Elockers and 5.29 ratio diffs on 33 inch MTZs
Aaron in his Toyota 80 series. Twin ARB lockers 33 BFG KM2s
Connor in his GQ Nissan Patrol on 35 inch tyres.

Yeah Aarons a bit of a natural. So is Connor. Connor gets a lot of seat time too so is really getting some skill. I'm very proud of both of them.

Matt...best little bit of no-bullshit/real-world fourbing I've seen in a long time. I've got two sons and a Camper Trailer business, my 12 year old son drives my 200 series and camper through some crazy beach sections in WA. Not sure how to say that without sounding like a flog...hes been driving along beaches and reversing trailers since he was 9. I'm sure your boy was the same. Love your content.

yep same. I'm a firm believer that kids should learn to steer as soon as they can sit in your lap. Both my boys did that at 3 or there abouts. They both drove at around 5. Lock it in 1st low and let it idle.

Great spotting...👍...One thing I find is that the spotters left and right are different from the drives left and right and can get confusing...It's good to say driver side down and passenger side down...A little less confusing I think...As long as you get to the top safely it's up to you how you say it...Another rad vid Matt...👌😎🍻...

diff locks make it easy but open centre diffs make it fun and picking the right line gets you threw

I would say an open centre keeps you sharp with regards to picking lines. Lockers make you lazy. But you can see the difference for the GQ and 80 up here with the 80 being locked. It walked it.

Awesome video and can see what you are trying to do with the boys and teaching about picking lines and spotting but there is a few things that you guys doing that puts you into bad spots 1. The constant stopping and going and starting in holes big no no 2. Heavy steering and not controlling the wheel 3. Not explaining about open diff and some locked and rocks hopping means constant momentum don't stop and start at all if do run at it again But other then that good vid P.s I run 4wd club for big geared 4wd

I’m not sure i understand points 2 and 3. But yes keeping a flowing momentum is always nice although not always easy without the correct setup vehicle.

I have an auto Memcal in it that losses base idle so IAC is disconnected. I have a manual memcal coming.

Ok I know u like them toyotas Matt... But which vehicle has the better driveline & dynamics for such crawler trails u reckon.. A fully locked GQ vs fully locked 80' .. same driver ;) Must be awesome to watch the son and nephew come in their own .. To be honest I’ve driven both and would probably lean towards an 80 but in reality they’re so close it’s not funny.

We dont get them here.. so curious.. and hard for us to understand the rivalry between the nissan & toyota fan boys .. i think its unique to that part of the world.. btw.. ur comment about nissan guys going into a seizure and mentioning TD42 when the debate about the better engine comes around.. hahahahah.. classic. Interesting comment about using front only lockers on the Buddy, Matt - must be something to do with wheel base. I have a 100, and I would have used rear only on that.

it's a long story but generally fronts make a vehicle more stable as it's pulling the mass rather than pushing.

Nice one. Not a knock on anybody but I think sometimes people with lockers forget they can't send unlocked vehicles up the same lines they would take. Like I said, not knocking anyone in the video. I see it happen all the time.
