Extreme Craft Hoard Declutter | De Stash | Self Identity

On this episode we sort and organize all the miscellaneous craft supplies we found from decluttering the front of the basement!! I also talk about how attached I am to the craft supplies and why I hoarded my craft stash since childhood. My hope is that this video will help someone in their decluttering journey too!

Your positive self-talk and what you say to your eight year old self is exactly what my kid self needs to hear. “You have many talents… You have other talents in other areas as well. You’re a good kid… Don’t listen to the other kids…They are going through their own stuff.” Thank you for putting this positivity out into the world. ❤

I love your videos, Ms Heart. But I do miss when you spent more time narrating the individual items that you were decluttering, rather than just having a voiceover on a given topic overlaid on the decluttering footage. I find it’s kind of tricky to watch the decluttering and process the voiceover at the same time since they are so distinct. In the very least I like when you take breaks from the voiceover to kind of hone in on different aspects of your decluttering jobs, telling stories of individual items and discoveries you made along the way. You usually do this, but I feel like it was missing from the video. I’d love to get back to that!

I liked that too but I remember in a previous basement video she said she is having difficulty with her allergies in the basement. There's dust and because of the moisture from the leak sometimes mold like the one item today 🙁 so we may need to wait till she's back upstairs for that.
@AmyWhoLovesFlowers

Maybe Ms. Heart could "Pepper" her with videos of straight-up sorting in between the insights/lecture series? Then we could have both! Even YT shorts with some quick decisions would be neat, because it is fun seeing her things and hearing the practical decisions, tbh! But I think part of the problem is the mold & dust in the basement isn't healthy to breathe and she mentioned wearing a mask while filming which makes live narration difficult. I wonder if Ms. Heart will Kon-Marie her clothes again this year? That's always fun! I also always enjoy the make-up room, but I think The Basement is taking precedence because Ms. Heart really wants it done this summer. Even if it isn't, she is making amazing progress, space by space. I hope she isn't too disappointed if it doesn't get finished, because that is a HUGE project to tackle, even on a macro level!

Cannot tell you how wonderful this video is for me! I emptied my craft room into another bedroom and I love my (almost) empty craft room. But i have all this STUFF I have accumulated! So now I will only put back what I really want to work with and create, and the rest I will donate to a charity that I know welcomes craft supplies. THANK YOU for articulating what I couldn't get to by myself. You are so worthy and good and fantastic! Thank you again and again ❤❤❤❤❤❤

SOOOO feel this.... that my good stuff=me!! I'm about to make another pass through my art and crafting stuff again...the harder stuff to part with. Sheet music, beads, and oil paint. (I mainly work in acrylics, and don't even like oil that much!) I am reaching out to friends (a singer and a budding bead entrepreneur) who can use what I have. I held onto some yarn and some very nice knitting needles for a year....I'm now ready to cast off that last project, and move on.

Keep the best, toss the rest! 💖 I just know you will feel so much better having the supplies you want to use ready and not lost among the ones you don't. I find that getting rid of the clutter also is getting rid of any micro-negative feelings I may have had: about identity, about clutter, about any kind of guilt of waste, etc. It frees the mind and the heart ~ and gives us back control not to be distracted by these things. I remember a study that said that just having more things in the home and having to manage them all the time creates stress and cortisol in the body. So what you are doing is making a more healthy you (body mind & heart) too! I think you will feel more creative and professional in your art & craft-making when you are done! That was such a strong 💪decision to give away things you don't have an active project idea for. You are doing great!! I think your keep pile was a triumph! 🦄💟🎉

its been nice seeing your transitions.. to clearer spaces. I always got satisfaction seeing empty totes, boxes or containers... full recycling and garbage bags so you can actually SEE the progress. and your kitty. life got in the way we didn't get to the garage for the spring clean out till this weekend... sorting some things into categories: THE GOAL... is as much as possible together chunks of it are... and some stuff is mixed junk totes, and tossed some more stuff. old straw, other garbage. we try to do a garage clean out twice a yr w sweeping and sanitizing the floor then sorting it back better. It definitely gets easier each time.. there is more organized stuff. less stuff makes it easier to clean. several days and several tries... to a weekend or a day or so... with drying time. as a kid I considered myself a pack rat , didn't have much but mostly school papers or stuffies/toys...every yr would go through my papers and usually had a garbage bag full.. it wasn't until moving here 2018 that we started to try minimalism rather than just decluttering... and upsizing here I thought OK decluttering is DONE! (LMAO)... but there were a few things that I didn't want or I wanted for my fantasy house but not here... so we decluttered more and more... some was super easy as the previous owners gave a lot of things.

As an ex-hoarder and I am still practicing CBT, the art of talking to our innerself, recognizing and accepting our emotions and then letting it flow 'out'. This was a beautiful commentary about how and why we hoard/can't let things go. The more often we declutter, the easier it gets. So happy to see you letting go over 50% of the boxes, such a huge achievement. 🎉 Don't forget to celebrate your achievements, everytime I let got like a small pile, I really reward myself. ❤

My sweet mother keeps everything. She has several started projects but never completed. She literally has enough stuff to start a craft store. All kinds of things from yarn to sewing items to paint and brushes. I had a bag of fabric scraps that I bought at a fabric store. I had not used it in years and a friend asked if I wouldn't mind donating it to a family that made homemade Christmas gifts. I gladly did so, I wasn't using it. Then in 2020 when everyone was making masks mom said to me, "I bet you wished you still had that bag of fabric?" My reply was, "not at all! Someone was able to use it then. I would have had to hold onto it for 5 more years or so in order to use it for masks!" I had it several years before that. Mom was raised in a time where everything was kept and used. It has progressively gotten out of control. I just remind myself that it is hers and keep my opinion to myself.

Mini bin org. Great idea! I have a question for you. I’m interested in your being drawn to every color bin. It seems to me that it’s because you’re highly creative and the many colors feed your creativity. Have you considered having the same color bins for categories? I have all the same color in the garage, but I think it’s because I’m not visually creative like you are. I find the same color relaxing and restful, though. What do you think?

Maybe when all the bins are organised you can do a KonMari declutter and reduce them down to what really matters and that truly sparks your creativity. The sooner you create that craft area the sooner you can fulfil that beauty creativity. Your creativity is innately within you not the external stuff. Sure you can use that to demonstrate your magical talents to the outside world, but what matters is that you, and anyone whose creative knows that it about the inner passion and the journey and not just the final result.

Wish we could see you using up some of this craft stuff and selling it in your yard sales. That way you could actually enjoy it. You have a lot of good stuff and enjoy crafting but don’t seem to use it. Of course you have other things going on too. Are you still zoning these supplies or are you still waiting for inspiration to use them. Do you think you’re going to set up a craft area realistically Or do you actually like accumulating the stuff and not actually using it. In this way it still feels very much like a hoard not a craft supply, because it’s being hoardered not used and enjoyed. Its different then sentimental stuff. The one thing that’s nice about craft supplies is they will be used if donated. It won’t be a waste. Identity clutter is hard to part with. It’s so easy to watch a video and think how easy it would be to part with so much of the stuff or how if it was ours we’d organize it this way. Or what it would be like to see you dump it all in a pile on the floor kon mari style and see if you have any reaction to the amount of stuff you actually have rather then looking for trash box by box, but that wouldn’t be a practical way to declutter. Especially all this tiny stuff. In my mind you mentioned you wanted to finish decluttering this basement by the end of 2024. Will this basement always be a huge storage room or will it eventually be finished because a finished basement can only fit so many storage totes. I’m speaking from experience. Maybe you want to consider the shed becoming your storage space. Which would put a limit on how much you can store. I just wonder what the end result will be because I’ve been watching this basement series from day one. I’m happy to see you got a lot of the trash removed from the better usable stuff. It’s just that it is not being used. But it is your stuff and you have total control over what you keep and use or keep and don’t use. It’s not for the viewer to judge how much you keep. And I don’t judge you for that I just wonder what your end goals are by the end of 2024 and if you feel on pace. Does a 10-15 video take 10-15 min a week to declutter. Or is this hours spend decluttering weekly. What would happen to the amount of stuff if you decluttered daily. Would that over whelm you and make you shut down. You are home for the summer now right. Anyway I hope the comments help your channel. I am a recovering hoarder too but some times I’m still scratching my head watching your channel but I think about where I was years ago and I was probably closer to where you are now. And I have to remember that.

We noticed that your piles of garbage are getting bigger, which means you are returning all the insults to those who tried to kill the inner light in you with garbage slaps. It makes sense to waste your emotions on the opinions of those who will never accept you. The realization that it is worth holding on only to those people and cherishing their opinions, who are always ready to accept the real you, brings mental and physical freedom from garbage. Clever. And by the way, have you noticed that your needlework baskets are almost always half empty, maybe you should put things from the workshop in smaller baskets so that they are full and do not take up much space, and use these large baskets in the cluttering of your husband's or children's things, or in other departments of the basement? Just a suggestion.

It is sad to hear that you go on with a leak, well for weeks, or months at this point? It surely is expensive ordeal, but i really think you should have ordered a plumbing service long time ago. Especially since i follow you since beginning and over the years you very repeatedly have water damage or leaks in the basement. Not to mention insulation issues there. In short, there is a lot of work to be done and to protect your things in the basement and the structure of your home you really should get a professional dealing with it once and properly, even if it costs much, as this is clearly a reocurring problem that is hard fr you and your husband to tackle on your own. And you shouldn't have to, but also please don't wait until the damage gets worse, cause leak is not justinconsequential water in your basement.

Tbh, I am not sure about the lesson of this video. I don't think it's bad to feel strength and confidence from having the physical tools to do what you enjoy doing. Maybe you are overthinking this, because it almost sounds like you are questioning doing art at all… just because you feel validation and pride from being resourceful and crafty. And in a healthy way, you relied on those to get through your experiences. But with your current focus on blaming past traumas, I fear you are at risk of associating your lifelong creative skills with those negative experiences. Don't forget that there were other factors too you have mentioned that led to keeping too much: such as being a busy new mom, having creative plans, having financial anxiety, etc. It makes sense in those circumstances to avoid decisions and toss an assortment of old markers and ribbons into bins for later. I just worry that you are dwelling TOO MUCH on traumas and on the negative past and diagnosing yourself, finding reasons for the clutter instead of just changing habits and focusing on happiness. Remember in the first 'Inside Out' Pixar movie how Sadness colored the little girl's past joyful memories? 🟡🔵 Well ~ maybe your focus on the past is making this a much harder and sadder process for you. I have gotten the vibe lately during these narrative videos, that you may be sad, tired, stressed. And I am worried about you. Instead of revisiting traumatic memories, maybe it would be better to literally forget and move on in lightness? Personally, I think you have successfully done enough soul-searching. And I think you should release any guilt you may feel that seeks to blame the past. Because why do you need those bullies anymore to blame? You are a lovely person! You are working on your skills and can stand tall! Focus on the incredible progress you are doing now. Making room for now and your future nows. Take care of yourself and your family, and work on brightening those past memories 'Sadness' may have tainted. Please don't let any bullies rent any space in you, Ms. Heart. I know from my own traumas, that dwelling did not help. It was time and letting go of associating with the trauma that helped me move on. I even put together a photo album with all the happy times of my childhood and onward to help re-record and reassert happiness to re-define myself without the blues of the past. Maybe that is a project that would be fun and helpful for you, too? Looking back at the photos of the past as an adult might tell you unlimited positive things about yourself you did not know of feel at the time. I am sorry to blather on so in this comment! But I am concerned. I don't want you to go down a road of associating everything (even things you love, like art, which has helped you in a healthy way all your life) with trauma, because you are set on finding 'reasons.' There is nothing wrong with your liking to do arts & crafts because you are good at them or that you are praised and feel good. The important thing is freeing yourself from the extra stuff and the stuff with negative associations that make you sad. Then you can really start to heal as needed… something nigh impossible with the constant visual reminders of stress all around you. I really think that focusing on the past sadness is making you sad. And it is not a flaw or your fault that you have memories associated with these things that has kept you stuck. That is human! All you need is the discernment, confidence and courage, to keep going and clear the debris. So please don't dive too deep into your feelings. If you feel negativity about something, acknowledge it as briefly as possible (Oh that. Goo-bye!) and tossy-tossy! You are working on skills and habits, there is no need to reawaken trauma every-time you go into the basement! (Ms. Pepper definitely wouldn't approve if you did! She is purr-oud of you and cares about your mental well-being. She wants you to be purr-oud and happy, too!) 🐱💛 Oh gosh, I have gone on too long! I hope anything I said was helpful. Have a wonderful weekend, Ms. Heart! Wishing you much Joy past & present! 🌼🌿
