Some of this is actually sad the way this country left the mass transit system in rubble's. Such beauty and splendor seen on these old railways. Thanks Peter Holfman and for these videos!
i think these for mines, not for passanger trains. probably the mines dried up so they didnt need the rails anymore. imagine if they removed them completely, we couldnt see these videos : D
@@CMDRunematti true but a lot of the mines didn't dry up. The war act shut any and all mines down that did not produce a valuable mineral needed for the war.
What a beautiful way to experience the countryside without the noise of an engine. Fresh air, breathtaking scenery and you get some exercise. Two words, "simply perfect".
This is really amazing! I live in Germany, where such adventures are almost impossible as most of the abandoned structures are eleminated/recycled very quickly - also any square meter of our country is cultivated. I spent some weekends in New York/ New Jersey ~ 15 years ago and got an impression of your wonderfull country and I understood what Americans want to say if the are talking about "Freedom"! Enjoy your ride!
You have to realize that there are numerous US states bigger than Germany. I live in America, it might very well be that these guys are further from me than you are from people in St Petersburgh! Berlin to St Petersburgh is only 1700km. America is over 3000 miles (almost 5k kilometers). wide and better than 1000 miles (about 1600km) N to S.
Wow, I want to go! Great cinematography, music, and editing. I get chills seeing the riders on those tall spans and wrecked rails. What a great way to experience history!
Do you truly realize how much fun and excitement you share around our beautiful planet? Can’t thank you enough. (The fact that you don’t make comment makes it up to every individual to make their ride) 🇩🇰👍🚵♂️
Brian notafan you really don’t warrant a reply, but assholes like you, usually get away with more than you should. You class less piece of shit. Go fuck your self. Douchebag
I like how the rails are still held together and the ties held to the rail even though the ground beneath them is gone. This looks like one hell of an adventure.
I am glad that RU-vid has put it in the Recommended Videos. I love train's and Bluegrass, but I think the version of this song I am familiar with was Bill Monroe.
Young people never ride bicycles nor enjoyed the great outdoors but prefer vidiot games, loud noisy mechanized safe modes and technology over fresh air.beautiful scenery ,quietness and camaraderie with a small group of like minded folks..
Beautiful scenery. Looks like a nice place for rail-biking, but unfortunately much of the right-of-way is in terrible shape. But the two large steel bridges are spectacular!
Just love your videos!. Here in Argentina we have a lot of abandoned railroads... In fact the old Ferrocarril Trasandino (Trans Andean RR) is not in use today. You can go from Argentina to Chile very near from Aconcagua mountain (6959m). I love biking and i need to try your idea. Thank you friends!
If you are going on a longer trip you can use the support frame if built well enough to carry a pack of supplies and camping gear. Keeping it in a pack makes it easier to carry around things on the rails.
I tried this once but found it very difficult to stay ahead of that express train chasing behind me. Seriously though, this look's really good fun and thanks for sharing....
Awesome scenery! Bikes are just one hobby for abandoned railroads. There are also groups that ride carts powered by pedals or gas engine and I have seen solar/battery powered ones as well. Railcars are another one which are little self propelled cars that are partially or fully enclosed.
Love these videos! Thank you RU-vid for the random recommendation. You guys could start a bike tour company. I wish I could take a week off and do this, every year. Must have some faith in your equipment....!!! Thanks for posting these! God Bless you!
The 1908 Sears Roebuck catalog had an advertisement for a bicycle rail riding conversion, and in my early 20's I used to ride my gas powered bike (Homelite XL 925 chainsaw engine) everywhere, and built my own "rail rig" with some old crutches and inline skate wheels (and Harbor Freight Alumiweld rods 😂). I used the tracks that go from Downtown Grand Rapids, MI to Wyoming, MI to get to work successfully for about 2 years, until a Wyoming cop sternly lectured me at a street crossing...then I retired it. Good Times! I think a business for taking trips on abandoned tracks with motorized bicycles is a fantastic idea, I'd probably use my design as it folded up on the rack and you could ride it as a regular mountain bike still, and take on any terrain due to the powerful engine.
I live in Grand Rapids and would love to talk with you about how you made your rail attachment. This looks like something I’d love to do before I get too old!
@@ferrelli1001 Just got banned for 30 days from Facebook for a post...it was for my business "Michigan Legal Cannabis Growsystems" 😂🤣😆. So if you email me that would be the best way to talk, or just Subscribe to my channel and use RU-vid messenger/comments on a video.
Mr. Hoffman, I am thrilled to see this, love that your not kids too! *my age.... I can feel the “boy” energy you all must feel doing this. Thank you for posting and like all the others here....would love to know more! Good for you, good for us!
I have done this in Sweden. Some where near Kristinehamn A rail trolley cycle (also know as a draisine or rail-bike) in Sweden is a lightweight affair for two people (one pumps the pedals, one takes it easy) or four people (two pump the pedals, the other two take it easy). They are available for hire all over Sweden, as long as there is disused rail track nearby, and they are great way of seeing some of Sweden’s countryside. A rail trolley cycling trip is great for families and groups who want to try something different and make stop-offs for picnics (or have it on-board), sightseeing and bathing spots.
Ooh, my stomach on some of those trestles, and ooh my heart on the beauty you get to see. I'd love to sit around a campfire and listen to your travel stories ! Thank you, you got my adrenaline pumping ! ✌️🇨🇦
To think we in Gt Britain believe we have lost some beautiful railways... these are awesome, such wonderful landscapes. I'd love to come to America & do this.
Just found your channel and all I can say is WOW. The area y'all are riding in is BEAUTIFUL, couple of those areas are breath taking. Please keep making these videos and if possible more details on the bike set ups.
Is this just a day trip or do you camp? This would be fatastic for a camping and fishing trip. Some of those places likely hasn't been fished for decades or longer. WOW, just WOW........the possibilities.........
I wonder if those corridors are part of the "Rail-Banking" project originally instituted in the mid-80's to keep rail ROW from being destroyed. There's hundreds of miles of track in Georgia and South Carolina that are inoperable. Crossings have been paved over but the rails are intact, albeit unmaintained. The routes are similarly difficult to follow but there has been a push from Congress to leave them in place should the business return or another need arise to save the rail line.
This may be a crazy idea I watching this video has inspired me to want to build one of these bikes and put a platform on the side in between the two rails and create like a mini mobile camp angle unlike a month-long camping trip traveling abandoned railroads in the United States
What fantastic videos! Thanks so much for sharing your adventure. The photography of Patagonia is superb. What a great achievement. I would love to do this, but at my age now it is all vicarious.
I need to buy one of those from you. There a few abandon railroads around my area. What a great way to see the US. You guys need to make more video's and one on how to build one.
You Gentlemen are impressive! Enjoying life by doing what you clearly enjoy- adventure, exercise, and getting away from your wives...My Dad is 80 and still runs, chops wood, and hikes the steep hills like a young man. He definitely would enjoy this.
That’s like a playground for you guys I ENVY YOU BIG TIME ...but those bridges man ... you guys had balls the size of Texas u would never ride in those bridges....I would love to know the history about those railroads ...what happen to them why they stop using them .... and thank you very much for the very interesting videos ...... a question how do you get back to the starting point????
Generally, a group will have several vehicles, leave one or more at each end (double shuttle). If they are lucky, they will recruit a shuttle driver or two to move the vehicle(s). Good job for timid wives.
I was commenting to a friend of mine that I may be buying a motorcycle, to traverse across Europe, but that it may turn out to be too expensive, and that I was thinking of buying an electric bike. Then he showed me this. I was laughing all along! This is insane, and now I'm wondering if I should check for some abandoned railroads in western and parts of eastern Europe. Think about it! No need for stinkin GPS, no need for electric bikes, it's mostly plain flat terrain which is easy on the knees! Gotta watch some more. Fascinating content!
Очень красивая поездка вот так по старой заброшенной дороге и наблюдать за всеми окружающими красотами .. Я тоже так хочу))) Very beautiful trip like this on an old abandoned road and to observe all the surrounding beauty .. I also want so)))
hej! this is actually a fairly popular tourist activity here in Sweden called 'dressin' or 'dressincyckling' - google 'dressin skåne' or 'dressin småland' and have a look! There's a guy down the road from me with his own dressin bike that he hires out in the summer. We have a huge stretch of abandoned railway near my house that me and my dog go for long walks on in the summer. Something magical about it. I love your videos and the scenery you cycle through! Thanks for sharing!
