In this video I walk your around the Overland Expo West in Flagstaff Arizona to take a look at just some of the standout overland built vehicles. We will take a look at some of the expedition style rigs, full sized overland trucks, mid sized trucks, conversion vans, Toyotas, Land Rover Defenders, Jeep Wrangler, Ram Trucks and Jeep Gladiators. Be sure to stay until the end where I will choose my favorite vehicle of the event.

An extra 100 miles on a charge versus a tank of gas. It takes five minutes to fill your tank, get munchies and be back on the trail. How long does it take to recharge the battery? And can you charge that battery in Elk City Idaho?
@toddhoffmaster6057
@toddhoffmaster6057 5 лет назад
Exactly, that is why there should be a 200 watt solar panel on the roof top or turn the tonneau cover into a solar panel to help charge up the batteries while driving.

John Grytbakk the Troopies and 78/79 series single and double cab Landcruisers are absolute weapons off road. Towing 4.5t as well. That Ram 3500 flat deck is something that would sell massively to outback Australian farmers and the mining crews. Hell, I want one!!

I know it’s not optimal but I’m sure solar would be the logical choice. But I’m sure that would take forever to get charged up. Or carry a generator which negates the choice of using gas. But there are propane generators out there 🤷‍♂️

Good video. The reason you don't see to much from Nissan is because of Carlos Goshen who was head of Nissan since the late 90's. He now resides in Japanese prison for income fraud. You will see a huge come back from Nissan over the next few years here in the states because the doors are finally wide open again and Nissan is spending money again.

A 2 door extended cab Jeep is probably the only thing that could really pull me away from the full sized 4 door Jeep. The rig at the end is pretty close, but I'd need there to be somewhat of a back seat for my dogs, storage, passengers if I need, and of course storage under/inside of them. My biggest issue currently is that any build like this costs MORE because it has to be custom, and I haven't ever seen the extended cabs cost more than the 4 door trucks. Oh, definitely assuming a full side bed length too. A Jeep like this has so much potential for me, and will maintain the looks and feeling I love so much.

Hellcat engine in a jeep wrangler just seems pointless since lifted jeeps gets kind of unsafe to drive over 70 mph. And you reduce the range...

Nearby Jeep dealership recently received and sold a couple Gladiators, which I got to inspect up close and personal, plus sit in, before some lucky buyers took them home. I saw your comments on the new Jeep Gladiator... We are about to get the Gladiator here in Australia & i think it is going to fail badly. I don't know how anyone is going to be able to set one up for Touring/Overlanding when it can barely carry 4 People and their luggage for a weekend away. Only has a 620kg or 1364lb #Payload. Which means this............................. # Payload is the maximum combined value of occupants, cargo, added options, added structures and tow ball download (when towing). The GVM must not be exceeded. The Gross Combined Mass (the combined weight of the fully loaded vehicle including tow ball download (when towing) and trailer must also not be exceeded. Please see Buyers Guide for vehicle specifications............... You fit a Front Bar, Winch, Sliders and Rear Bar and 4 pewople and it's at it's weight capacity!!!!! So bad!

Raptor - $70,000, doesn't seem like a good option to me. Gladiator - too expensive, a unless Sport $46K, you want a Rubicon, $60K. The Dynatrac Galdiator looks like it is nearing the $100K range ($60K Gladiator, $18K Hellcrate Engine, plus $$$$ fabrication).

But do you REALLY need a v8 inside a jeep? Slightly overkill if you ask me it's an off roading vehicle not a sports car. But the rivian truck is insane with its battery range. Scotty Kilmer recently did a video on them talking about the company. Apparently both Amazon and Ford dumped A LOT of money into that company. Scotty seems to think that Ford will just use the battery blueprint to create their own electric truck/SUV in the years to come

I know why a lot of people think electric vehicles are IT for the future but I own One car and One motorcycle. My kids and sibs all live farther than 500 miles away. I NEVER want to spend three or four hours in a strange town waiting for my traveler to recharge. At 73 I can’t always take my bike if I want to travel 1300 miles to my son’s house in Colorado so I take my pickup. It gets about 19 MPG and is very comfy for interstate travel. Electric? No thanks The Bison is a really killer pickup built on a great platform but it gives 7 MPG away to the standard Colorado. Unless it’s strictly a toy who will do that beyond competition off roaders?

I myself really like the SHERP vehicles. Now, having said that, it is difficult having to wrap my mind around a top speed of 30 miles an hour. I get it... I'm not going to be climbing hills at 60 m.p.h., but on a sandy road where a jeep or Toyota can hit 40 -45 m.p.h. i'd get so far left behind... then i would also need another truck and trailer for the highway.

Definitely a no on electric vehicles. They might be cool as track cars or something, but I want something that I can build and work on myself. Plus the recharging time is a problem like others mentioned. There's just something not right about an electric truck. Very nice review. The over-landing lifestyle is interesting to me, but probably not something I'll do myself. We saw a number of R-Pod campers during Easter Jeep Safari and they have a model I think I can sell my wife on. Most likely as we get a little closer to retirement with a Gladiator in our driveway. I've been watching the Dynatrac two door Hellcat Gladiator build on Wayalife's RU-vid channel. It looks awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing video of it out on the trail. Speaking of Dynatrac, it was very cool that Jim donated a complete Dynatrac 44 differential for the Friday evening drawing at EJS. Brad, thanks again for what you do. Safe Travels and God Bless!
