I used to watch a SR-71 takeoff from Kadena Okinawa years ago. At night it would give off two long afterburner flames that had diamond shapes in the flames. It would stay in afterburner mode for as long as you could see it. A KC-135 would always take off about an hour beforehand to top off the SR-71 once airborne.
Back in the late 80’s I worked close to Dyess AFB in Abilene Texas. They had an observation area by the runway. Some days I’d take my lunch to work and park in that observation area and watch either B-1 or C-130. B-1 is really loud. It would shake your car as they went by. Loved it.
I've been next the runway with both aircraft taking off, whilst the Vulcan sounds better the B1 Lancer is definitely louder....much louder, and the ground vibrates..
