The fact that this whole skit was supposed to be a PSA about stupidity and ended up basically being a roast of the supposedly smart character, simply because she forgot her line 😂😂😂 Gilda Radner was a comedy genius

1:51-2:03 Gilda Radner's lesson on comedic timing. She lets the tension build with her laugh just until it becomes uncomfortable, then snaps it off perfectly. You can't do it better than Gilda.

@@billysullivan6788 If you have any talent, and get enough stage time doing improv, you inevitably wind up having to save countless sketches from screw ups over the years, and you have to do this live, in front of an audience - OR ELSE! - it goes with the territory - so Gilda's just being the pro that she is. Candy may be beautiful and brilliant, but as sweet as Gilda is, we tend to forget that's actually an improv heavyweight that Candy's sitting next to … so it's good that this sketch served as a reminder!

Improv is not straight-up "ad-libbing," it's a craft that requires a lot of practice, talent, & training. A good practitioner of improv always lays down tracks for the respondent(s), feeds them material to keep adding to the concept, & uses any incidental moments as an "in-the-now" material source. A great improv performer can make it look easy. It was extremely smart of Lorne Michaels to use well-established improv performers for this live show in the event something goes wrong & they had to be able to workaround it. Gilda was one of the best. Gilda's chemistry with Candace Bergen here was so fun to watch. Most performers would have continued with the sketch as written & simply moved on from Bergen's trip-up. Gilda immediately realized there's bigger laughs to be gleaned. Her improv skills hit the ground running & elevated a reasonably good sketch into something hilarious & unforgettable.
