This is amazing, I was looking for something exactly like this, I have a regular huge e-skate and a few longboards but I wanted something portable and more especially that can be carried in at least some planes.
10:33 Preach on! There are all sorts of niches esk8 companies can fit in that are beyond faster and more powerful - stuff like size, functionality, safety / reliability, and ease of use / quality of life features are what we should be clamoring for. You can already get boards that are ludicrously fast. Let’s find other interesting things to focus on.
I agree this is great for the general skateboard market, they just need to advertise like crazy to get people aware of it. Anyone that bothers to do a bit of research would know this is a better buy than an Amazon board, but they need to get the attention of idiots that don’t research before buying stuff which I’m afraid is a larger group than it should be
Bought one with your code for the last mile for my commute with the train (airplane). The Bus and Public Transport bikes are getting so unreliable/expensive in the Netherlands. Only problem it rains alot and any electric vehicle that's not like a bicycle or scooter is illegal. I'm hoping it looks enough like a normal skateboard cops will leave me alone.😅
⚡ *My bare minimum wheel size is 80mm belt drive and 90mm for hub deive, from my experience of ridin around london,* other than that it seems a great lightweight board ⚡ When I first saw this I wasn't impressed as it looked like it had a cheap remote/esc. Glad it's LY-FOC not a cheaper one like I thought but still really weird to see Ling-Yi on an Exway, I'd rather it be Hobbywing. Yes, we need to go back to lighter boards again, with slim/hidden enclosures.
a 28-30" long deck that puts 10 miles under 6kg that can climb hills with a smooth esc and that is comfortable enough to ride on diverse urban terrains is my dream esk8. unfortunately options are very limited and none ticks all the boxes.
They need to have an "Electric Hour" in the morning and evening so a lot of people can get around on these and e-bikes during that time. It's probably good for the economy in some ways, and bad in others. It's more likely that someone will stop off and get something to eat (once they start serving healthy food), or stop at a shop.
I'm one of those who just wants to get to the train station but find e-scoots too awkwardly shaped to carry. E-bikes are too big. Short e-skates are the perfect last mile commute solution.
My most used board is still the x1 max. And my ''group ride/long distance'' board is the zeus pro bamboo with the m50's X1 max gets me about 16km And the zeus pro tops out at 73-75 km with 120 clouds Really tempted by the ripple but probably a pass because of the hubs.
Very very nice direction things are going in. Some things I'd love is TKP trucks, hollows, (as opposed to RKP). Because manual grinds are sketch with the kingpin facing that way. Also smaller wheels. 65mm tops, 50 - 65 region. Secondly experiment with harder durometeres, 90a, 97a, 99 even. I'm talking a transition eskate board. Something purely for the skatepark. I know no brakes with hard durometeres but don't need them in the skatepark. Also truck widths, I hate wheels that stick out. Would be great to have options with narrower trucks where the wheels are parallel with the deck or even just out of sight from above. Currently all the boards the wheels stick out so so far. Battery enclosure, see Bustin Boards, try flat and balanced for grinds on. A kick nose would be awesome too . Love the direction this boards gone in but Bustin and a french eskate company already have equal boards to this. If you want to do something really different experiment with what I said above. Transition eskating is so much fun. Can skate lines you can't on a non electric. And it helps me progress on non electric having a throttle. Speed is your friend on transition. Overall this board looks great just it's been done. Wanna do something different those are the things that haven't been done yet. And a board like that would appeal to transition and street style skaters. The longboard market is saturated. Short, trick and transition board market is barely tapped into.
I think you are spot with your rant! I think most people will want to dip their toes in to thr world of esk8 with a reliable but affordable skateboard. Furthermore, the short board design is more accessible to many than the long board design. Im probably a good example as my first esk8 was a Bustin x Magneto board primarily for its Board design, shape, and being a US based company with excellent customer service. It has the same ESC and works well plus a low profile battery design that won’t get too damaged going up and down curbs. In hindsight I probably would have gone with the ripple and then eventually added a long board for additional distance. Great reviews. Keep it up!
ironic how my 2020 enskate r3 mini has better specs and it's just 100g heavier. they'll need to come with a better deal, like real +10 miles while keeping the weight. i do like the board however.
@@DanielKwan well it has a hobbywing esc, samsung cells, 90mm wheels/hub motors and it's probably faster/punchier at the same range/weight without the fancy lights. Not something that I would recommend paying full price nowadays but I got mine brand new for $200 from a second hand marketplace and it became my commuting board.
I was wondering what the difference would be to the wave. I really thought this was something for me because of looks and portability. Until I saw the ESC / Remote part. This was an immediate turn down as an Exway user. I currently have an X1 Pro, Max & Wave for context.
Hey Daniel, excellent vid as always :) This board seems very agile compare to other e-skates. How agile is it compare to regular boards, and especially surf-skates like carver? How does it compare to the exway wave in this respect?
Comparable to regular boards but if you want extremely agile, you’ll be able to set up a similarly sized regular board to be more agile than the Ripple. Surfskates in general would be more agile than boards with RKP trucks, especially if comparing similar sizes. Ripple is noticeably more agile than Wave.
Great review! I think people don't realize how big of a deal the light weight is. I had a Meepo mini that was about 18lb and I basically never rode it because it was a PITA to carry around.
@@DanielKwan I have a Onsra black carve 3 and I search a mini board since a Long Time ago... I want a Mini Wave Apollo series but he don't delivery in Switzerland Europe too This Model special series 🛹 so Ripple or Tynee Mini 3 Pro for Me ... I hesitate this summer make my choice
@@Neobees What about an Onsra Challenger ? Evolve stoke ? Tynee mini 3pro ? Do you have any issues with the black carve 3 ? Whats the acceleration like ?
My E-Skateboard want's to kill me, now it's my transport home-work-cofee-where is me on GPS-long time road-home😂 Like from Ukraine, nice video's❤ P.S. Raldey v3s AT.
I have a Tynee Mini 2 and it’s just too heavy and unwieldy for getting around town and campus. How high off the ground is the ripple? I find that the Tynee Mini feels too tall. I think the higher range cruiser edition of the ripple with a 10-13 mile range will be better for me so I might sell my Tynee mini to grab one.
Hi Daniel, would you recommend adding a surf skate adapter to this board? If yes, how did you unscrew the trucks without removing the grip tape that covers the screws?
IIRC, you can’t add significant height to the rear truck because the motor cables wouldn’t be long enough. So if you add an adapter to the front without raising the rear, the board’s height wouldn’t be level. If you want to try anyway, you can poke holes through the grip tape to access the screws.
@@DanielKwanHi Daniel in case you or anyone else was wondering I was successful in putting on the surfskate. The cables were just long enough. The only difficult part was attaching the adapter to the front truck because the front trucks baseplate didn’t quite fit. Either way it was a ton of fun to ride an electric surfskate!
Hi great content as always! I just received my ripple yesterday. I was wondering the Hi & Pro mode feels exactly the same on this board. Is there any way to configure them? Thank you.
Your rant at the end of this review is bang on right man. I'm not the biggest fan of these really short boards nor do I like the really big boards I prefer the middle around 36inch deck. I like the style of this deck with a timber deck and less like some sort of apocalytic born machine and that it's travel friendly.
I have a meepo mini that is a lot like this. I added a major arc truck to the front of it and with the right risers, it is so flippen cool how those trucks work and help turn. Look up those trucks if ya never heard of them
How easy is it to remove the entire battery pack with the esc? Might need to remove it for the air travel and don’t want to remove the back wheel with the battery pack everytime…😢
These are RKP trucks, which afaik are generally considered longboard trucks. They're like normal size longboard trucks but a lot of e-skates use much wider trucks.
How strong is the braking? I live at a hilly place, is breaking enough do go slow downhill & can you come to a complete stop? Great video btw, we really need lightweight budget boards.
I never tried this board on hills but generally speaking, Ripple’s braking performance on a downhill slope is likely not as good as boards with bigger motors. On flat ground it felt perfectly fine. I wouldn’t recommend Ripple for a hilly place. It’d be a lot of stress on a small battery.
I don't disagree with what you say but the #1 reason people don't want to eSkate, that I speak to, is fear of being hurt, not the weight of the board. They don't even know how heavy they are because they're too scared to even touch them in the first place. eScooters are often heavier and I see so many of them, now. They have a handle, though, so people feel safer.
In this Ripple design, Ripple has a wider version and a flatter foot socket. Its wheelbase is similar to that of a road bumper, so novices can stand on it smoothly. In addition, he can also play as a road board
@@DanielKwan ohhh thank you!! I did a little research on the torsion tail, but how well do you find it controls? I prefer my boards to be able to take some deep carves and turns but really love the look
@@DanielKwan one video I found claimed the top speed was 19/20mph but the main reason I asking is I'm highly interested in seeing how it compares to those cheap single hub motor esk8's for £150 (Aimed at kids) They have awful brakes and can't climb 10% hills!
Thank you for the review Daniel. Do you have any thoughts on when the next generation of Exway Wave might come out? I would really look forward to this upgrade. Enjoying your video very much, keep up the good work and positive vibes. Greetings from Shenzhen
This thing is gonna get like 2 miles of range. I got an X1 Max two weeks ago and the range is abysmal - 8 miles. I'm 155lbs and this was at chill speed most of the time. Exway range is the biggest lie in the industry, and I don't think Daniel is being totes honest about it...he weighs significantly more than me, so the only way he got 7 miles on a 99wh pack is if he's secretly going like 4 mph the whole time.
@@DanielKwan SSSSSIIIIIIIGGGGNIFFFFFICANTLY more apparently. Better do a nice 4 mph skate over to the gym :) The roads / pavement in your videos look higher quality then other regions, maybe smooth roads help a lot with the range ?
I would like to see some slightly bigger sleeves on the hubs but thats just coz the roads near me suck ... looks good.. personally would prefer the crusing model with abit more range .. and if they did some 85 or 80 mm wheels would be awesome for my work commute
@DanielKwan yea I imagine the cruise battery thats coming will take it closer to the price of the wave .. but would be just enough for my work run but them wheels would need sorting lol I'm uk 🇬🇧 based our roads suck and pavement is worse 😅.
The wave has comparable wheel options to the normal eskates. Look it up. I have the 85mm stock with 99Wh battery you can upgrade to 105 clouds with 180Wh for more range.
Interesting you talking about the eskate bubble. I thought eskating is still in its baby phase and will explode in popularity soon, but I guess you are right it is just too dangerous for most people.
@@Ollv33 Good point about boosted. I still can't believe they went under, I wanted one of their boards sooo bad back in the day but never had the money. Soo many options now
Oops I didn't mean bubble in that way like it's gonna burst. Probably should have used a different word. I just meant that the eskate community is really small, and all this focus on power and range appeals only to the people inside this small community.
really excited to get this. But I wanted to know the major differences between the wave and ripple. Does the Ly foc downgrade this board in any way than exway 2.0 esc which is in wave? Im really confused between ripple and wave because I wanna do tricks and all like it shows on ripple. Will that be possible on wave?
For throttle and brake control, there’s not much difference in feeling. For tricks, Ripple is lighter and has a longer tail so is probably more suitable. (Speaking as someone who doesn’t do tricks.) Wave’s overall build quality is better, can accept larger wheels (up to 105), and can quick-swap batteries.
@@ayushjainbmk The motors are different and Cloudwheels didn’t make sleeves for these. It’s unlikely bigger wheels would be designed for this board since the Wave exists.
ripple seem like the perfect board. I just wish the wheels were bigger (100mm+) and the battery removable with simple latches. I wouldn't mind paying 600 bucks for those features. I like the weight, deck, lights and etc. Right now I am riding a modified Stoke board with a 99watt hr battery, unity and gummies. I went to korea recently. Cut my finger reassembling the board. I hate picking up my board over a small crack more than necessary...
Or the tynee mini 3 / mini 3 pro ? Also, why run a 99WH battery on the stoke ? it comes with a 140 - 150wh o_O ANY issues with your stoke ? How many parts have broken so far ? -_-
