Eye of the Coach: "With Holger, we need to take lessons from that Roland-Garros"

Today, I assess Holger's Roland Garros and his clay-court season. Of course, losing in the quarter-finals is disappointing, because our aim is to win Grand Slams.
But the road to the top is a learning curve and we're going to learn from what happened in Paris and over the last few weeks to move forward.
If you look at Holger in October, who was 30th in the world, and the Holger of today, who is a solid Top 10 player, I think he has improved a lot and is no longer the same player. He has progressed a lot and won a lot too.
For many years now I’m sharing my point of view on international tennis for tennismajors.com. Now I’m happy to share also this analysis with you on my RU-vid channel.

No doubt that Rune has made huge improvements in a short period of time, but with a goal of winning grand slams and being number 1 there is obviously more improvement required. Well looks to me like this coaching relationship is exactly what is needed - hopefully it can continue and can not wait to see what is coming next !

Look at Alacraz - he was overcomed by cramps at the semi's due to nerves... so I cannot imagine what Holger had to go through to reach his goal of being no. 1 and winning a Grand Slam. He may need to take stock and not burn himself out. Maybe over ambitious at the expense of this physical and mental well being. But luckily he has Patrick M as his amazing coach and will help to put him back on track again.

Cramps from nervous ? Lol. He just got run do hard by djoko. Watch the full two first sets man. Djokovic is running him left to right. Hitting everything deep, so Alcaraz can't hit dropshots. Djokovic had a massive amount of control during the match

@@techdiyer5290he match was dead even until Alcaraz had the cramps. He didn't have any tough match before in the tournament. No way such a 20yo top athlete would collapse like that after two sets of it wasn't for the mental pressure. Djokovic raised his level in key moments like he did during the final (tie break), pressure helps him. Alcatraz doesn't have the experience and was too tense

Even Connors and McEnroe were disliked like Rune. A holes soften when young guns behind them get better. Cocky is necessary to he #1. You think Djokovic isn't?

I have seen Patrick better in his analysis. I am not sure just mental tiredness explained playing so badly during nearly 3 sets. I rarely saw a player playing so badly. It was at the level of Lecomte final last 2 sets in 1988. There is much more to look at from this match than what the interview is saying. Don’t be complacent on this one Patrick

Very bad mindset. Of course those players want to win a grandslam, but saying that not winning is disapoiting is very shallow. That's why there are always some bad behaviours on court. He should focus on playing the best he can do. Winning or not winning a grandslam depends on many other variables, including the other players! Maybe that's why Serena got so frustated recently!

For me Rune was in an elite group of two players who could beat Djoker. Thats him and Alcaraz. Noone else had a real chance at RG. And Ruud, who is a very good player, has zero chance of beating Djoker. Imo.
