Remember boys and girls always hand thread the bolts first, don’t start them with the drill like Henry did

General Rule, Always hand start bolts, plugs and nuts, atleast 1/12 turns and dont use impacts on installation.

Those reply is 2 years later but: Don't snug any bolts down until all the bolts are in place. That way if there's any tolerance in the holes, it allows you to shift the part around to fit all the bolts. If you snug down the bolts before they all go in, there's a possibility of the last few holes not lining up perfectly, preventing them from going in, or worse, causing you to cross thread them.

You can get the same cover for like $130, it just has the Dana logo instead of the ford performance logo

hold on, why does the same gearbox take a whole quart more oil when its at an angle? theres not more space in there right? confused on that one. looks like you overfilled

I have a 2013 F150 with a Rough Country 6 inch lift. Do I need to use the top drain plug as you did for your 7 inch lift??

I also a 6 inch lift and was wondering the same thing. I’ve always used the original drain plug on my stock cover and now have purchased those ford performance cover.

My rear axle is 3.31 so is that the 9.75 or 8.8 ?
@jve5280
@jve5280 3 года назад
Lifting a truck with blocks in the rear doesn’t change the angle the pinion sits at in relation to the ground in any way. You would have to cut the saddles off and re-weld them in order to change this angle. The drive shaft angle changes but that’s it. If you follow this advice get extra axle seals, you’ll be replacing them on a regular bases.

Torque specs of 14 ft lbs seems pretty light. I thought it was 33 ft lbs?

20-25 according to the instructions.
@yruhatin100

If you reuse original bolts then it's 35ft-lbs. New bolts that come with cover call for 14ft-lbs and will break at about 30ft-lbs.

I did my Dana Spicer cover today. Reused factory bolts, had them all at 20 ft lbs. Found torque spec for 35 ftlbs, second one snapped off 😒. 2013 F150 8.8", left the rest at 20 ftlbs. At 38 yo, I'm retiring from this DIY 🐃 💩

You dont add 2 quarts just because it's at a angle.... If your going down a steep grade, are you going to drain some back out? NO Every china cover I EVER saw, had the wrong fill locations. "They" usually have two, and give the same story. The difference is high pinion or low pinion. 14 ft lbs? and using a gasket... tells me I have about 20 years more time in axle work. If the book calls for 8 pints, use 8 pints.

You don't need to use sealant with the gasket, I believe our gasket somehow got damaged during the install and that's why we used sealant and didnt mention it.

Is there any difference between this cover and the one that spicer sells that doesn't say "Ford" on it?
@FirstLast-ig2mg
@FirstLast-ig2mg 6 лет назад
Of course, the Spicer version is the original manufacture and Ford just pays Spicer to make their "Ford Performance" version which you can buy for 70$-80$ more to have "Ford Performance" on the plate instead of it saying Spicer :)
