great video, but just curious.....I am guessing this was a routine training mission near Toledo, so what type of munitions do these jets routinely carry and have available ?....thanks

At about 10:08, it looks like the wing man hit some turbulence, started to buffet, and realized it was time for a little separation. Good call on the wing man. Safety first always, no matter what you fly, whether it be small Cessnas or F-16's, right Ladies and Gents?
@assfacetheclown29
@assfacetheclown29 7 лет назад
That was a classic pio
@daffidavit
@daffidavit 7 лет назад
Maybe so, but it looked like the entire flight was in rough air, no? BTW, for those who wonder what PIO is, it's called "Pilot induced Oscillation". It can be an over reaction by the pilot using over controlling inputs to the stick and rudder. In the F-16, it's a "fly by wire" computer controlled situation. Nevertheless, rough air can be a problem for any expert pilot. Especially someone flying only a few feet from another aircraft. I give credit to the wing man for doing what he did. He put separation between his aircraft and the other in order to minimize a potentially close situation. IMHO. DPA
@fr8fr6dr69

Yes, it is a PIO. And 2 is flying like it is his first day at RTU. If you are in fingertip, you are there until lead tells you otherwise. If you are in route, you are there until lead tells you otherwise. 2 was in "sloppy seconds" position - somewhere in between. Then 2 gets spit waaaaay the fuck out in the turn, and he was yanking the throttle around -up, back, up, back - pick a position. Fly like that in the weather and he's going lost wingman and fucking up the mission. 2 was all over the place and I'm sure he took some shit for it at the debrief. It's a Guard unit, so he has probably been off flying for SWA for the last 30 days and I'm sure he would critique his flying harder than I am.

Are those block 40s? I'm guessing so because of the special "W.A.R" hud they use which no other variation does. I was confused at first because I saw the "bird cutter" IFF antennas on the nose, which I thought only the newer Block 50/52's have. I guess these were upgraded to some of the block 50/52 specifications. Would love for someone with first-hand knowledge to fill in the blanks for me.
@TheBushmaster94

they are block 40/42. I have never seen that HUD in a block 50/52
@Planehazza
@Planehazza 7 лет назад
Sure? The 40/42s don't have the AIFF and this is the first time I've seen a Viper with AIFF and the WAR HUD. I wonder if this squadron have just bought blk 50/52s with that HUD? EDIT: Yup, Block 42s according to F-16.net. Never seen the 40/42s with AIFF; wonder why the difference here?

it's kinda weird even though your going really fast it doesn't seem like it from the cockpit view..............have you ever noticed that?
@recon_ron7746

Because once you're in the air everything you keep a distance from everything so it wont look like you're going as fast
@bikeguy3034

You never really feel like you are going fast until you do some cloud hopping, then you realise how rapidly you are moving.

blackandgold978 Everyone knows that. It's a joint effort. If the jet was up to maintenance but nobody to execute missions then maintaining it is pointless. Obviously we need and appreciate all that the ground crew dose, but it really gets old when people remind everyone as if they don't already know. No disrespect, but it's not all about the ground crew.
