The SYRP Genie Mini ii is great... filming this video was not. It was cold, my batteries kept dying extra fast, my stuff got hit by a bicyclist and knocked off of a bridge... but I'm still going to show you how I shoot a motion timelapse with the SYRP Genie Mini ii if it kills me!

Great job getting the time lapse in spite of everything else. Love the Genie system. I have the full 3 axis setup. Lots of options. I like the rope drive attachment on the large Genie which lets you use it on a fixed rail or make your own drive track of unlimited length. And the Genie system will work with any camera or smart phone you can mount on it. It will only do shutter control on certain cameras with the link cable but pretty much any camera with lapse function will work for getting pro looking hyper-lapses. I always pack at least a Mini with me anywhere I plan on taking pictures since you never know when a quick panorama will be just the thing.

It's worth it though. Iv been doing timelapse for the last 3 years for work and you just gotta find the right set up and go with it. mine go for 8+ hours so you don't have to wait around for them you set and come back at the end of the day. The take down is kinda a fun part though because it means you get to go home and see how cool the timelapse turned out. But anyways great video as always.

That’s awesome! I truly agree that it’s worth it! When I see fantastic timelapses that span a long time, I’m always amazed. So the Syrp looks modular? One could just buy the pan first and just do pan shots then later on add the tilt? Seems pretty sweet and not terribly expensive. Anyways, nice video. I always enjoy watching a Canadian winter from Vancouver. I might go for a motorcycle ride today 😁
@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 4 года назад
Yeah exactly! They have the Syrp Genie ii which is a much bigger unit that I believe does both vertical and horizontal. But you could just pick up one of these and to pans to start. If you get the bracket and a single one, you could just do tilts as well. Then down the road, you could add another one if you needed both ranges. Haha yeah the West Coast Winters are like late Summer here. Enjoy your rain and light jacket lol.
@Milkywaymike
@Milkywaymike 4 года назад
I'm thinking about buying the Genie Mini ii but I curious about the stuttering in the time lapse footage you show in this video. Is that stuttering due to youtubes video compression or is it in you original video as well? If you ignore the water and look at the land you will see what I'm talking about... basically it skips a little as it tilts up
@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 4 года назад
Tbh, I think that may have had to do with the bridge that I was on, every time someone walked or ran by, you could feel it shaking a little bit. That said, any kind of motion control unit I’ve tried has always ended up with a little bit of jitter in the end, usually a little warp stabilizer fixes it but maybe I forgot to apply it this time. I’ll have to do some more testing with the tilt pan kit here and see if I get more of that jitter though.

@@dunnadidit lit🔥 what's your thoughts on 2:1 ratio? I think it makes more sense because most people actually watch yt videos on smartphones and then the video sits right under the notch (in iPhones and Android I believe) and if you really want you can still zoom in the video and you don't loose much from the top and bottom. And aside the notch thing, u get to use more screen real estate that's actually available (with new smartphones) besides, 2:1 gives the video a hole new cool look and feel I think

@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 4 года назад
Allow me to clarify... for this specific use (motion timelapses) I had much better luck with the syrp system than I have in the past trying to do the same thing with gimbals. I’ve talked about this as well in some of my gimbal videos not liking the way that the apps work and having bad luck with using the camera control cables. I basically gave up on using the control cables with any of my gimbals until they improve. However, a gimbal is a much more versatile device for hybrid shooters overall for sure, being able to do this (albeit not as well) and also many more functions for both video and photo shooters. And also to answer your question yes I received this product from syrp, but I also received most of the gimbals I have reviewed directly from the companies as well and made it clear to them that I would give my honest opinion of their products :) Hope that helps clarify!

Haha it wasn’t even that bad out there, but when you’re trying to do little fine motor skill movements, your hands get cold really quick. Love my vallaret gloves for that tho!

But $250 a pop for these little things. Buying two and the bracket gets you a gimbal with change to spare. I like the idea and the functionality, but that price is steep!

I don't know that they cost more than they should for what you're getting. For what they do, they work much better than a gimbal does. But that being said, I also realize that they do cost a little bit and a good deal of people just starting out wont be interested in investing in them.

I feel like the video was dragged out a bit, could've been shorter. nonetheless it was a fun video to watch, just had to skip a bit. :)

Do you call American bacon...American Bacon? Lol Also, this video looks like a massive pain to make, lol. Sorry, man
@dunnadidit

Haha tbh... Americans and Canadians call the same kind of bacon, bacon. What y'all call "Canadian Bacon" isn't very common here and it's called peameal bacon lol. Thanks brother, it was definitely worth it in the end.
