At 1:46, Prost used the push-to-pass system to overtake Senna. The FW15C's push-to-pass system can be activated by pressing the left yellow button on the steering wheel. This system was designed to utilize the active suspension to lower the rear of the car and reduce drag from the diffuser, which resulted in increased speed due to the reduced downforce.

At times, they took an unusual line, avoiding the kerbs. Presumably, this was so that the active suspension didn't have to process so many sharp bumps. They could rely on the car's superiority without pushing to the edge. Mansell, who was strong and very aggressive, punished the William's systems more in his time, and unlocked its potential in a way that confounded his teammate.

First car with paddle shifters was the 1990 Ferrari 641 driven by Prost and Mansell. The 1989 Ferrari 640 driven by Manselll and Berger had the first sequential which was thumb operated on the steering wheel. In 1991 Williams had a sequential gearbox and by 1992 McLaren adopted the technology. The original Ferrari sequentials were similar to the sequential transmissions of today with auto-blip on downshifts.
@thesourceofthenile
@thesourceofthenile Год назад
@@christowndotcom The sequential used on Indycars, prototypes, and GT cars at the time, and mostly used by GTs up until the early 2010s required manual blipping on downshifts; although V8 Supercars and current NASCAR still manages to use this transmission model. Some cars required clutch in as well on downshifts and therefore rev matching through heel-toe downshifting; although this would be rarely or never seen on open-wheelers and prototypes. To my knowledge an F1 car never used this style of manual-sequential transmission. These levers have also been used with auto-blip famously by the WRC and other rally sports, but I've never seen them on circuit racers.

FW15C is the car used for race in 1993. It was based on 1992 FW15 that never used because FW14B was so great, it doesn't need to be replaced. So instead, FW15 was retrofitted to race in 1993, making it FW15C (FW15B was used as retrofit test for 1993 car spec). The one that uses CVT is called FW15D. it never raced since the CVT was banned before it can be used in race
