F1 FANS ARE WRONG - Street Circuits Are Amazing

street circuits are good when the cars won't crumble like a nature valley bar when they bump into eachother

Motorsports are awesome, all styles and all disciplines.

Weirdly enough street circuits usually becomes a snoozefest only in F1. Meanwhile when you look at V8 Supercars, Nascar,or hell even current sportscar prototypes have been providing with some spicy racing on a street circuit (technically even Le Mans is ½ street circuit)

Cheers Jimmy, best battle and most fun race I had there all week. Incredible to be able to share the track with you! Was honestly surprised in my own ability to keep pace for the first half of the run. Car never felt the same after tapping the wall. Hope to run into you again soon!

Jimmy there actually is a European Nascar series that is terribly under recognized, it's called EuroNASCAR, they race at tracks all over Europe and it has a pair of races at Brands Hatch in June. They don't use the cup cars like in the US series but they are based off of them with 450hp, RWD, and a four speed manual transmission

I find street circuits more fun with tin top cars. NASCAR and V8 Supercars lots of fun. F1 I only like Monaco and streets tracks like Aus GP etc. Newer street circuits with F1 I don’t enjoy as much. I guess there’s something so satisfying about taking a heavy car that you have to muscle around walls and barriers while pulling gears and blipping.

I think you could turn this into a series of some sort: "Don't Listen To F1 fans". Could be fun, or at least engaging lol

Im British too but thanks to my dad watching NASCAR for a majority of his life ive been able to appreciate and enjoy stock car racing and what its all about. There is NOTHING like it

Jimmy with his watercooled vapor chamber brain. Focusing requires more cooling but good cooling delivers more performance. Good stuff. I'd love to see SST on long beach. Trophy truck on this circuit is ridiculous but also challenging and a lot of fun.

Watching Nascars Chicago race convinced me that NASCAR needs more street circuts

NASCAR is criminally underrated, they race on regular circuits, ovals, AND DIRT!! No other racing series in the world will you get something like nascar, yes they have stock cars all over. It’s a shame people pick and choose motorsports to like, how people do teams. NASCAR, endurance racing, rally, f1, Indy car, and all the other motorsports are all amazing

Sting Ray Robb is in Indy right now and honestly, most NASCAR name. Parents legally named him that after the Vette.

That's why they typically say "Nascar drivers are more versatile than most others." The cars are basically Boats, they get in a little street racing in, a little dirt, I think they turn left a few times a year.. I really wish they'd do a few more street courses like this, or somehow find ways to use a couple of F1 circuits. I think it'd be crazy to see these cars race at places like Monaco. Such a "different style of Racing" on an Iconic track.

If there was that intense racing for a 26 car field, imagine what would happen if a full 40 car Nascar Cup field took to the streets of Long Beach, or Detroit, or Toronto or any street circuit anywhere. I'd even consider reactivating the old Birmingham Super Prix track, or maybe they can tear round the Coventry ring road for the MotoFest.

Nice race, Jimmer! Also, I've been enjoying the highlights (or lowlights lol) from other drivers you've been showing in these videos lately. It almost starts to feel like a TV broadcast rather than just strictly showing us your own race.

Street circuits are great for closed wheel cars because you can bump and grind without your suspension coming apart at the first touch.

As an American racing fan, Nascar is a staple for car racing, and a huge contributor to my obsession with cars. However, I cannot sit through an oval race in its entirety if I'm not there in person. I usually just watch the highlights the next day. But Nascar road races are so much fun I never miss one. CotA was complete chaos and a testament to simple and raw power.

I learned this long ago in PC2 trying Monaco in almost anything that’s not an F1 car

There are many reasons why NASCAR is my favorite form of racing but your explanation of big heavy cars with too much power, terrible handling, and only a suggestion of brakes is probably my number 1.

That's why I've never really understood the disrespect for NASCAR. It's not my favorite either, but Anybody who's ever driven at all, and I know that you are driving knows how valuable it is to learn to drive in a car that doesn't handle that well and isn't perfect because then when you get into a truly good car at some later date you know what you're doing you know how to deal with damage you know how to deal with unexpected situations if you've been hoarsing some boat around a track for a while. When I was much younger, I did a little bit of racing, much less accomplished than you are. But I got my start in what's called folks racing, where we would race junk cars on whatever surface was available, that would be tarmac or snow and ice or grass and dirt. You didn't know, and it might be a mix of all three. So we were struggling with low power, bad suspensions, if not overtly broken, poor brakes, crappy handling, and terrible conditions. And you know several of the guys that I raced with went on to become professional racers in various series. I was good enough that I get invited to fill a seat every once in a while, but nothing outstanding. Mainly, my value is I don't break cars. But I didn't have a decent car until much later when I bought a used 968. I had much less power than the people I was racing against, but that car really did handle extremely well. And with an upgraded cooling system, you could run it like you stole it the whole time and it just loved it. And despite often being a hundred horsepower or more down on the people I was racing against I could race with them and often beat them because I could handle the car regardless of what was happening Not that I didn't mess up spin out every once in a while, but you know much more so than the guys grew up racing Actually pretty decent cars. I Could handle surprises, and that's extended into my adult life. My girlfriend knew that I raced when I was much younger, but I don't drive aggressively with anybody else in the car or on the street because it's too dangerous. But one day we had a car that pulled I'll write directly into my path, and it was the first time she saw me move fast. I managed to dive into the side street behind the car and then get back onto the highway, manage the lurid slide that we were in, straighten out the car and keep right on rolling like nothing happened. Her eyes were so wide she was looking like a South Park character, and she just asked me how I did that. And I said that was experience and muscle memory. So the point of me telling this to you young guys is learn to drive in a crappy car Find some junk piece of crap. Make sure that your safety equipment is good that you don't need to compromise on and then learn to drive something that doesn't handle well and That will pay dividends for you. Heck. Get a pickup truck. And learn how to drive a pickup truck reasonably quick on dirt and tarmac. And that will go a long way toward teaching you how to handle a car in bad situations.

I think a lot of it depends on what kind of car is used, as well as the design of the circuit. The late 90s CART cars for example put on great racing at street circuits and were widely praised, and a lot of that is because of the need to manhandle the cars given the lack of power steering as well as the relative parity of the series (due to the use of customer chassis as well as the fact that cars could follow due to the Venturi tunnels and the third springs to prevent porpoising) leading to consistently interesting racing. It also helps if the street circuits are well-designed-which Long Beach, Toronto, Vancouver, and Belle Isle are, but many of the current F1 tracks are not.

NASCAR has a rule that requires a lot of extra weight added to the cars for... reasons. Hey, FIA has some doozies, too. Without that weight the cars are actually not that heavy compared to most GT cars but they're not terribly well balanced. These new generation cars are a completely new machine from the ground up in comparison to their predecessors. You want a real challenge, try wrestling a late 90s, early 2000s cup car around a street course. Hey, Jimmy! If you want to play with circle track cars try Super Dirt Late Models or World of Outlaws Sprint Cars.

For anyone who doesn't know, there are _two_ types of cars in each of the top NASCAR series: Oval and Road Course. They're actually built and setup differently for purpose. Road Course cars are built to turn left or right with equal efficacy, like a normal race car. Oval cars are built to be faster going left, while sacrificing traction when turning right. They also have aero flaps that help stop the car specifically when it goes into a left-hand spin.

Remember that after all the development that Dallara did for their nascar cup car, NASCAR had to roll back the downforce on the cars because of competitiveness. The cars were braking too good and leading to less passes and turns were easier to hog the inside. Other than that its still a heavy "underpowered" thin tired freedom boi.

I havent wached jimmy in a minute. How long has he been doing these highly edited, narrated races? This is good.

As Americans acknowledge the beauty of street races, Aussie and NZ V8 Supercar drivers will shine. We've seen Van Gisbergen make the shift and, soon, more will. It's something to behold, that's for sure! Great stuff, Jimmer!

I remember 10 years ago when they were pushing over 900 hp. Than they went to the 550 hp package and it sucked ass. Even now at 670, most drivers and fans want higher hp back. Love the content Jimmy!!!

I remember seeing a Nascar a few years back near Brands Hatch (there was an event there).

I used to live in Long Beach, and ive attended it almost every year for the past 10 years and I can safely say how awesome it would be if F1 went back to Long Beach. Fun fact, since it was canceled in 2020, when they scheduled it for 2021, it was in the fall and on my birthday

Crazy to see a race at a place where you have walked normally. Recommend going to the aquarium if you ever go to Long Beach

I like street circuits too, but for f1 it just doesnt fit that well because of the lack of overtaking opportunities, compared to gt cars and nascar there

I’ve done a league race here in the cup cars and this track is really fun when you learn it

I agree that street circuits are magnificent but there’s something about a purpose built race track that just makes it feel like it’s built for racing, the corners are put together perfectly and the flow is artistic. Granted it really brings out the skill in people to try and find the flow on a street course so I understand both sides

Here is what I hate, TRACKS ARENT ALWAYS are the reason for bad racing. The only circuit that sucks for racing is Monaco and only because the cars are soo big.

Man this is so much more relatable that pretty much any other form of racing you do, I don't know why because I never grew up with Nascar, I just always enjoyed it, and especially hucking them around a narrow track. Great video as always Jimmy, you're awesome ❤

The problem with street circuits in F1 has nothing to do with the circuits, but the fact that there's no racing to be had due to the massive size of modern cars. A current F1 car is almost 6 meters long and 2 meters wide, which is about the size of a Ford F250 Crew Cab pickup. Now image 20 of those trying to maneuver around a circuit which can only have 2 cars side by side in 1-2 spots. How willl that result in good racing?

That was immense. More!!!! I really hope Nascar continues with the Chicago street course. Maybe THAT is where they should have the Clash! (Well, maybe not Chicago in February, but Long Beach? Somewhere else more temperate?)

Tight street circuits are a lot of fun. Sad that with I suppose advances in technology, and the ability to put these things up quicker and quicker, and with these pseudo courses where they build a racetrack and then turn it over to public use for most of the year, that street circuits are becoming wider and faster with time. I'm from Baltimore and I'm still waiting for a decent version of the GP in sim. There will probably never be another track as bumpy and messy, and that's what I love about these tight street circuits.
