Oh, what an F-4F-4 pilot would have given for a power retract system. I know the earlier models and possibly through the last, they were all hand cranked up. Imagine being an Ensign in the Navy, flying off your first Carrier launch and having to fly the plane over water, all the while the other hand cranking up the gear! The P-38 for a while also had hand cranked landing gears.
