Caution! Be advised that the inverter generates high voltage and enough amperage to seriously hurt you!!!
The video contains part of a reverse engineered schematic of the inverter F66459X91AP and my thoughts on how it works. Be advised that it only gives a general overview, several details are missing, like bypass caps, zener diodes and details of the transformer windings.
Similar board may be: F606Y8X00AP, F606YM300BP, F606Y6G00CP, F606y8x0 4ap, and probably many others that have the same basic circuit
A complete analysis is not possible due to lacking information about the main controller chip.
Before everything else check the door switches, the magnetron resistances and the control signal and input AC voltage to the inverter board.
The AC is switched through a relay on the control board. The control signal also comes from the control board and has a frequency of 220Hz.
I did not manage to repair this microwave oven but I still think the problem was on either the inverter board or the magnetron. It generated -6kV instead of -4.5kV at the inverter board output and became increasingly unstable until it shut down after a few seconds.
The same or similar boards may be used in:
NN-SD987S
NN-ST661
NN-SD681S
NN-SN671S
NN-SN661S
NN-SA661S
NN-SA651S
NN-SN651B
NN-SN651W
NN-SA631B
NN-SA631W
and others.
Here some more details that might help to troubleshoot the uW oven.

Nice information about microwave inverter!

Excellent video. I have a Panasonic NN-SN686S microwave with the same inverter. I picked it up cheap new since it was broken with the dreaded H97 code. I confirmed the problem was with the inverter (and not the magnetron) by swapping it with a working inverter. I then tried to troubleshoot the inverter itself: 1. Applying (with care), live 120V to the board (connector CN702), I was able to verify that the bridge rectifier (DB701) is working along with the zener diodes, filtering caps, and resistor trees to give good low voltage, low ripple rectified current (checked on a voltmeter and scope) 2. I removed the IGBT (Q701/H30R1103) and verified that it is working by testing resistance across the various G/C/E combinations along with doing a diode check testing both polarities across C-E, both with and without the gate charged -- it works 3. I tested the 2 opto-couplers (EC702, EC703) in circuit by applying a voltage across their inputs and checking the output... 4. I tested the choke and both the primary/secondary of the HV coils and they are low resistance - so intact 5. I tested the 2 HV rectifiers attached to the coils and showed they work (though they required about 6-7 volts to forward bias them) 6. I removed and tested the 2 HV capacitors (C701 and C702) and they tested to spec on my capacitance meter (0.28uF and 4.5uF), respectively 7. I tested in circuit, D703 and D704, they worked 8. I inspected the circuit board for cracks, burns, etc. -- there were none 9. I examined the remaining low voltage caps for any signs of burning or bursting - they all looked fine 10. I reflowed the controller IC, just in case... I put it all back together... no smoke... ran for about 6-7 seconds (fan light) but no heating and then H97 again... Given that not much else to go wrong, I'm thinking maybe the "mystery" controller chip was DOA... but no easy way for me to prove it Any other suggestions on what to troubleshoot?

No sorry, you did a lot already. There is so much stuff on this board whose function and values are hard to identify... Yes could be the chip but there are also the SMD components around it, I m sure it is repairable if we had a schematic. Manufacturers should be obliged to either repair or provide means to repair. But you shouldn't be picking up trash, you are supposed to buy a new one! 😀

Another commenter said he swapped the control board, so probably his drive signal was faulty somehow. But you swapped the inverter and it worked so IDK. I wonder if it's not the transformer that has shorted windings somewhere inside, that's definitely something the controller chip could detect and shut down...

You can test the inverter without the control board by injecting on CN701 pin 3 a 3 to 5v 220hz signal at

I think its best to simply replace both magnetron and inverter. The magnetron has a certain life expectancy, once they reach the dodgy stage it will keep blowing up the inverter periodically. The inverters coils lose their enamel coating and present shorts back to the IGBT and blows that up too. The cause of all of this is usually dirty microwave inside that causes sparks and overloads everything.

Thank u. I have H and COOL errors and after trying new maggy still have same errors. There seems to be HV . My NCV meter shows big voltage at wires to maggy but not value. I'm guessing the chip now. Wonder if I can get a replacement chip.

Hi, nice video and very instructive about how the feedback work on the inverter. In my case i have an Ikea MWN 200 S, but in fact it’s an Ikea stiker on a Whirlpool microwave. There is an error 5 ou S as it’s the same symbol, the microwave work 5 second on microwave mode then « error 5 ». For your information it’s work perfectly on grill mode. I tried to test the contactors on the door but it’s ok. Ok also for the klixon. As the error appends only on microwave mode i tested magnetron, and it's ok. So two possibilities, the main board or this inverter board. And with your video i think about a simulator to try to identify the one problematic… It’s seem on your video 3:37 than the feedback (green) the frequency is 50 % less and it’s change from 1 to 0 or from 0 to 1 on a change on control signal from 1 to 0 (yellow). So to me the feedback result look like a D flipflop latch, as CD4013, connected on the control signal. What do you think about realise a small circuit with a CD4013 to similate the inverter juste to know if the error 5 is still here (then the main board will receive the good signal as feedback)? Sur the micro-wave will still not work ;)

Hi guys, 12 days ago a wanted to create an inverter simulator to know if the error 5 (or S) will stop by this way, even if the oven will not heat off corse. So the simulator was done with a litle bit more componants the expected but not too much. No more errror 5/S so i'm sure at 100% the problem is the inverter and i will investigate more because i already have tested diodes/IGBT/Condos/tranformer. Do you have the opportunity to remove the oscillograms of the magnetron at different power? What is the principle of controlling the power from PWM and what's on the feedback?

No, I don't have that information, nor could I measure the IGBT drive signal at different power levels. I blew it up completely before I was able to explore the functioning of the working unit.

Hi, the duty cycle control the power level, but on my Whirlpool (1000W max) belowe 500W it's not only the duty cycle. For example at 160W for about 1 minutes, the power was controled by a smaller duty cycle AND the presence or not off this control signal. This on stop after 10 secondes then apprear again after 10 secondes, etc... A small video off my simulator working => ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ENPNTNqdkQ0.html I will try to do a bigger video and explain in detail the process.

Did you find how to interpret the Control signal, is it a pwm of the output power or something else?
@geraldcmoi3775

Hi, no. The control come from the main board from the connector with 3 cables, to the opto. The duty cycle manage the power and also with the presence or not off this signal.

Yes, my Panasonic inverter did that too. I replaced the 20A120V fuse. but still blew the house breaker when the magnetron turned on. I think it was due to dampness. I checked the monitor interlock switch and it was ok (i.e. open when the door closed) never got the H97 code.

Microwave oven using inverter is exposed to sensitive HV spark that may caused the operating system corrupted. The result of this is the oven shut off after start up. Don't look at those micro switch, they are all good except microwave is using a transformer.Try to reset the system to restore the functions. Never think that the magnetron defect is only an open filament. The diode inside is dead. Replaced them directly. My advice that avoid microwave oven using inverter.

Dear, is it possible to convert the microwave to work on the normal converter instead of the inverter? I mean, is it possible to dispense with this inverter card and return to the old or usual system? Thank you
@geraldcmoi3775
@geraldcmoi3775 8 месяцев назад
Hi, complicated because you have a main board with a feedback from the inverter. So if you arrive to simulate the inverter board well it's possible after that. But how will you control the different power level as it's how the main board did it with the inverter?

Hi Tom, when I start my Panasonic NN-L931BF Inverter Microwave, the timer, fan, and rotating turntable and light begin to operate but stop after exactly 5 seconds. The timer resets to start but everything else stops when the Magnetron tries to kick in. Always after 5 secs exactly. I checked all the door switches and fuses and all is OK. I'm about to pull out the Magneton Do you think this is causing the cook function to reset the oven? It is dated 2001 but I just bought it a year ago. First time this has happened. The magnetron is 2M261-M32, older than the one in your video. I don't believe the fuse is blown as it starts everytime. Do I need to replace the invertor board or the magnetron to fix this problem. Will gladly donate to you for the correct advice....Paul

Sorry I don't have the answer. Did you also check the magnetron? Filament - low resistance, filament to casing - high resistance. Could be the magnetron itself or the inverter board falsely detecting some overcurrent or other fault condition

If you have a short between filament terminals and casing the magnetron is defective.

@@tomtechtod9200 Yes but, checking for a short in the mag with my audio lineout though it still produces sound when I touch a terminal and the casing. Does this prove that the mag is defective? If there is no continuity between the mag casing and the terminal I should hear no sound at all . And your continuity meter should produce no beep tone? You didn't address this. I don't want to waste money on a new mag if I am wrong here.
