I just want to take the opportunity to thank SuperCap, RC and the rest of the GR's for all the tutorial videos. Without these vids I would still be no-where. Very informative, concise and entertaining. I came up from not knowing what the hell an APU is, to being proficient in the Hornet (and the Frogfoot for that matter). Thanks Guys, keep it up.
I'm 5 days into DCS. This was super helpful even though I don't have have as many HOTAS buttons as you. I'll have to prioritize and make it work with my Hotas X.
Thanks Cap ,hope you and your family, also the Grim reapers had a fantastic Christmas day . just added the Hornet and this has helped with keyboard . Im interested in landing on a carrier , did as most do , first time in the f-14. with your walk through :)
Just want to thank you guys for putting out these great videos. You and a few others that I watch are the reason I am building a gaming machine - just to play this train wreck of awesomenss
Its worth noting that if you made a shift button on your throttle then you could double the amount of available buttons. I found it very odd that you would even touch the KB, especially for something as integral as slewing your radar.
Hello 3 year old comment. I forgot about this and it might help me out since I fly the warthog and use the Logitech cheap joystick in one hand and an Xbox controller in the other. It would be nice to just use a different modifier for each hat in the A-10 instead of using the D-pad, ABXY, and the keyboard for all the hats. Use the trim for trim then a modifier key+ joystick hat for each other hat. :)
Hey CAP you forgot the G-Limiter override switch which even though you won't use it much if ever is just important as chaff and flare because it may be the difference of slamming into the ground after a dive or dodging a missile or turning faster than a bandit in a merge if you're going fast (watch out for G-Loc just like in the F-15C)
@@travismills7579 To anyone still searching, "Autopilot/Nosewheel Steering Disengage (Paddle) Switch". You can press it when the limiter is active to override the limit.
@@grimreapers Waiting for news of a large contract. It was delayed because of COVID-19. If it's not cancelled and comes through; I'll donate some hardware or send you a few pennies for the excellent tutorials (already sent some money a couple of months back but it was only £30 because I'm a bit broke at the moment). I have all the manuals but it far easier be to told what to do. Thanks for your effort.
This helped me a lot I got the F/A-18C and I didn’t know the name of the “FCR cursor” as I’m accustomed to knowing it as, now I can finally slew the radar 🤣 quite sad considering I’m a military aviation person.
God I love that we have nearly the same throttles. I use an X56 as well, however I have the version made by Logitech. They added a few buttons, namely the 2 way switches on the right of the throttle are 4 way switches on this one, and... It sounds like you don't have any toggles? Or, at least you don't make use of them? This one has 7 two way toggles and additionally 2 rotary switches, one of which I use to control RWR volume. Super handy. Anyway man as much as I love our similarity for the ease of learning, it'd be awesome to see you get that winwing and give a review of it!
Great video and thanks for sharing! Have you ever had a problem of a 'ghost input'? i.e. random commands getting sent through the left HOTAS without actually using them? Sometimes random things will happen when flying if I have too many of the inputs binded...
Do you know why the logitech extreme pro lever does not work? Binded it to axis but ingame it is not responding… Great vids btw im just starting and they are nicer/ better to follow than ingame tutorials ;)
Watching this with my goddamn Logitech ""Dxtreme"" 3D ""Pro""... Have a 25 unit deadzone and no rudder pedals. Boy do I have to spend some money to enjoy this aircraft...
I have the Logitech "EXTREME 3d Pro" that I got used for 15$, retail is 40 I think. And I only needed a deadzone of 2-5, could've even gone without it but just in case. Using my steering wheel (Formula force EX from 2005, also like 5-15$ used these days) pedals for rudder pedals, since they're literally 1-1 identical x_x Only issue is that the pedals plug into the steering wheel, and the steering wheel plugs into the pc, so I have to have my steering wheel lying on the ground all the time. But overall for 15$ the game is over playable, and a noticaeble upgrade would cost me at least 500$ for trackIr, a decent joystick and HOTAS (the 3d pro only has a small nob for throttle)... And that's some good value for ~30$ if you ask me :3
-love your videos. I have a CH throttle and stick...no rudder pedals. I have tried different axis curves but find the Hornet susceptible to pitch oscillations, and not a solid control feel. Is this something normal for the plane? Would a Hotas setup make it handle different?...thanks
ONE HUNDRED tutorials on flying the thing....nice....it will take some time before I'm able to adequately operate this or any other aircraft for that matter. Oh well, here we go.
Hey Cap Have you tried binding what I can best describe as the volume turn knows on the x56 throttle in DCS? I was hoping to bind these as much HUD brightness with no luck.
I’m having issues with pitch trim. I can troll using the hat switch no problem, but trimming up and down with the hat is not working using these controls.
@@snypez8870 I prefer reading the manual or a guide like Chuck's guide for the F/A-18C as it's quicker to read ~400 A4 pages and you'll understand more. It'll only take like 10 hours of pure reading, maybe double if you're a slow learner and need to double-take some stuff, also nice to read before going to bed. ^^
@@samuel.d9059 I have a diagram… Are you saying if I have a diagram, it wouldn’t be helpful to see where the buttons were mapped on someone’s hotas doing a video about “setting hotas joystick controls”?
@@JohnnyJiuJitsu yes, as he went through the video I paused it, and read what joystick button was inputted into his control settings. Referenced my diagram to make sure mine were the same. I have the same exact HOTAS as he does.
hello sir, want to say thank you for all your videos and tutorials. You are doing a great job. I just picked up the x-56 hotas and downloaded the key binding profiles (from the link above) for the f-18 but it seems like the left and right .lua files contain the same bindings. The throttle is being programmed with stick movements like pitch & roll. Please advise.
I'm surprised Cap doesn't use modifiers to increase the number of binding he can fit on his hotas, I have 3 modifier key for a total of approx 150 possible button bindings and never have to use my keyboard.
DCS is sending me nuts. My Saitek Pro Flight X56 Rihno Throttle is controlling my roll Axis. I have cleared the Category for it. It zero commands in the "Axis Command" and "All Command" sections, but still. Is there a file somewhere else on my computer that it could be getting these commands from? I would like to lock an AMRAAM of some sort onto it (Delete it). Please help.
Very frustrating trying to decide on HOTAS to buy and use. I purchased a Thrustmaster T.Flight last year, which is complete crap, but the X56 Rhino has tons of bad reviews regarding quality. I need a new setup but spending the money for a Warthog or WinWing is never going to be an option.
I have the thrustmaster t16000 ( I think that's what its called, its close to that). I have the stick and throttle. It could use a few more buttons, but for getting started, it's worked great! I think i spent around $140 usd. Give it a look.
How do you set up a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X? It's only got the single Thrust column on theleft and not nearly as many input options overall from what I can tell. If it's insufficient for DCS, I'd like to know what to replace it with before I dive in and get started with the DCS in the first place (doing pre-buy research to make sure I'm prepared and not wasting my time, I hope you understand).
I am using mine for 4 years almost. It's even sufficient for A10C. I was like you that I do not have enough buttons. But then I found out about modifiers. I am able to program around 80 commands
@@lukasplsko How exactly did you manage that? I've never heard of these "modifiers" before, what are they exactly? Are they expensive? Either way, where can I find them? Are they universal with this flight stick over any game/sim, or will they only work with sims like DCS? (Sorry for all the questions, I want to make sure it's worth it.)
@@VarietyDrifter1 It is just a control setup right in DCS options menu. No money needed. Go to Options --> Controls --> select your aircraft (You have to set them individually for aircrafts you are playing) --> and down at the bottom line you should see "Modifiers". Click on it, choose your joystick and choose your buttons you want to use. For example I use buttons 3, 9, 10 (Button up and behind the joystick and the two buttons at the back of the throttle). Now if you set it up you are able to use one button for 8 commands (Now that's a lot). Let me take "button 1" (Gun trigger) for example. Button one I am using for gun trigger obviously. Now If I press "button 3 + button 1", I am using it as NSW or Laser. "Button 10 + button 1" can be to put flir into a white or black mode. Or you can even use "button 3 + button 9 + button 1" for gear down or something. Try it and get back to me to tell me how did it go. Enjoy.
@@lukasplsko Thanks, I've noted it down for future reference. After I finally get my stuff together and actually start playing DCS (I did say in the initial comment that this was pre-buy research), I'll let you know how it goes. Though in all honesty, I have no idea when that will actually be...So I apologize in advance if it takes forever for me to get back to you and you and I forget all about this conversation.
Is there a way to make the game settings to be simplified enough that the majority of the game is HOTAS controlled? I was thinking about getting this, and VR, and it would be weird transitioning from stick to VR controllers to press cockpit buttons.
I'm playing VR, waiting for the finger controllers, but at the moment I'm using a quest touch controller that's always at my right lap. It's not ideal, but it's not that awful either. A lot of stuff you can control with hotas, especially during action I don't find myself needing the controller.
any chance you'd be able to rehash this FA-18C with the logitech x56 HOTAS? I downloaded your files for it but am overwhelmed with learning which commands do what. I'll gladly give you a tip on paypal or venmo for your work. I just bought this HOTAS and can't wait to get the learning curve out of the way
I've already done the X-56 maps for you. This vid shows them how to download and install my maps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D6UBj75LU1E.html
For me, if I go in F18C Sim, and axis commands, it just shows the camera and tdc commands, but on F18C Game, it shows all the flight controls on axis, but don't work.
@@roteroktober360 Thats where the arcade jumps in. Otherwise I can just tell you. Build or get a button box :) Even with the X56 i am going to do that. I use my streamdeck i have anyway with simdeck as UFC Button box for the numbers, clr ent and the first three options on the right. So i dont need to click that all the time. Also I got myself the cougar pack wich is literally an mdi without the screen in the middle. but all the buttons around. that helped me a lot. Almost dont use mouse or keyboard anymore apart from some very few things
it would be awesome if i could find a panel with 2x2 and 3x3 button squares on it to have all the TMS, TDC, Coolie, etc. switches, just having random buttons on a panel is barely an upgrade
You can still play ok, might need to click on the throttle (or use keyboard shortcuts) during cold start, but otherwise it shouldn't be that much of an issue. It's nice to have feature, for sure, but I'd you're starting, I don't think it's that crucial.
I have a big issue. In settings everything Is bind And in mp it works just perfectly fine, but in singleplayer(the missions you have included) it just does what it wants. Anyone else has this issue or know how to fix it?
