Geoff must live literally in the next road from my in laws as (without naming the place) i know the road and also could see the sat nav. He is one bloke i could sit down with a drink and chat to for hours with his stories, what a lovely bloke!

I’m truly gutted for you, especially after all the work you’ve done on it recently. Using it as it would have been used in ‘anger’ 30 years ago or so.

In my time as a trucker, I've seen (and narrowly avoided in some cases) some properly weird debris in the running lanes of the UK's motorways. It's a great shame that FAB copped it due to such debris.

Absolutely devastated to watch that, you had put so much work into that car and got her running beautifully! Now shes scrap! I can only begin to imagine how scary that whole experience must of been! Thankfully as everyone else has said, you’ve been lucky to come out of that unharmed yourself! RIP FAB!

Absolutely gutted for you mate. FAB really did live upto her plate! and after all that work... I cannot imagine how infuriating that must be.. I don't think I would have been able to keep as clam / stable as you there after it happened. At least we can be thankful there were no casualties other than FAB. I hope Le Cav will make worthy successor if you do go ahead and use that as a replacement with fab as a donor. One Cav dies and another is reborn much like a phoenix.

Might not be your cup of tea but I had a mk5 golf R32 to me it was my pride and joy spent a lot of time and money keeping it right and a similar thing happened just after fitting a new clutch and flywheel on the driveway. Dougie glad that you are safe and unhurt but saddened that the cavalier came to sudden tragic end. Judging from the impact any car would have been a write off. Keep restoring and promoting classic Vauxhall cars

The Cavalier laid down it’s life to save yours. What a brilliant little car it was. I think the number plate should be transferred to Le Cav as a tribute to its legacy.

What happened here is the one thing that hovers in the back of my mind if I'm doing any distances at night. The closest I've ever come to serious m-way damage was in France (at night), but my own silly fault (drifted off into the hatched area when passing an exit and whacked a wheel into a depressed drain at 70mph - a very bent wheel that then took me 20 miles to Dunkirk and on/off a ferry!). Hated driving at night ever since. Glad you weren't hurt and amazed that nobody else hit whatever it was that broke the Cavalier.

I’m Gutted for you Dougie a lot of work went into that Car! The only saving grace is you did think it only had a year or so because of rust anyway it still! At least you have LeCav to get you back on the road. All the best mate.

Back in the late 70's my Dad wad driving through Cumbria on the M6 in his Mk1 Escort estate and what looked like a metal crate fell off a lorry, missing our car by inches. I learned a new word that day.. So sad given the work you've done & travels had in that car, look forward to the follow up vids.

Wow Dougie a lucky escape there!, could have been a lot worse, must have been quite a fright hitting whatever it was, meant to say I used to work in Woods of West Calder as a lad in 1987 in the body shop beside Beano and a few other Guys back in the day and can remember fixing all the Cavaliers / Astra’s and the like back then, great times.

I’m mainly a Ford guy but also love my old Vauxhall’s too. Gutted to see FAB meet her demise this way, especially after the work and effort you put into it. First registered March 1992, 4 months before I was born. More than just a car, this was your pride and joy and a favourite amongst the OD,FS fans.

Hard to like this video coz it’s the end of fab. Been following the channel for a long time now and enjoying the content. It’s a sad end for the ol Cavalier. She was indeed FAB! Glad you’re ok though Dougie.

Really gutted for you, but glad you’re okay and able to be so philosophical about it, and that you’ll use it to save another car… I had a similar incident about 18 months ago in my Golf GTI because someone couldn’t be arsed to secure their load properly, destroyed the wheel and tyre, fitted the spare on the hard shoulder while police assistance, manage to limp home but it was clear more damage had been done. Ended up replacing pretty pretty much all the nearside steering components, the lower control arm was bent and I trusted nothing else either… luckily no chassis/bodywork damage was done, which is miraculous because I had little to no control of the car.

Gutted for you dougie! But glad that you are ok that could of been so much worse for you. Hoping that you can now make “le cav” something awesome using FAB parts!

Gutted for you butt. As many have said, the important thing is that you and nobody else were injured. I await "Le Cav" hitting the streets. The sound of that C20XE is one of my favourites out of all the cars that I've owned in the last 36 years.

God Dougie i am so sorry about your cavalier but im really glad that you were not injured and that you are safe and well... i hope you find out what you hit in the end, i feel really sorry for you after all the efforts you made to keep it on the road. Bloody highway agency are crap they should of seen it on the camera's and had obstruction/debris on road warning on the overhead screens.

sad ending for the mighty cav! ,had a v6 omega once, autobox needed changing,put a decent used one on and it drove mint again,following week the power sounder set fire to it,i was devastated as you must be about this! at least you got out ok!

Sorry to hear this Dougie , thats just how luck goes when it comes to cars , I once had a 206 GTI everything tuned up on it car was beautiful then hit something on the M1 at Milton keynes and the car literally caught fire , I was ok but the car was toast , £5000 down the drain , time is a good healer though as it was 8 years ago so my hair has since grown back after the stress lol , anyway hope your luck improves my friend 🙏

So sorry to see that car as a write off. You put so much work and effort in it. It must have been something wide and substantial to cause all that damage. I'm thinking a worden beam of some concrete slab or construction beam, maybe a metal beam? Luckily it didn't hit the engine so you can reuse it.

Real shame pal, such a handsome car. I would burn money on getting it back on the road. Some things are worth preserving.

You probably don't remember me chap, i'm in Bath, you rescued an old Belmont from me that I picked up as scrap which you saved. Sad to see the poor Cav in this state through no fault of your own, these poor buggers are getting thin on the ground as it is without stuff like this happening, does the insurance even cover for this or is it cheaper and more effective to just turn it into a donor and put it down to sheer bad luck?

Bent bottom wish bone arm on my cavalier,not as expected though was easily repaired,so sad to see yours demise.

Just glad your ok dougie similar thing happened to my dad somebody left a bag of solid concrete in the middle of the road by the time he noticed it it was too late ripped off the bumper and coil spring off his mondeo. Will you be replacing it with another cavalier?

Gutted for you mate, it can I ask you something G,when you had the impact you mention about the AA and recovery coming out to you,when you rang the AA did you say you had collided with something?and did they still come out,as my daughter was driving to Brighton,hit something car was making a really bad grinding noise?she didn’t want to drive it back?rung AA they said they won’t come out recover her or anything if we didn’t pay app £300,as she had hit something,we were told to get hold of insurance and they pull arrange recovery, So I’m just asking that’s all

Such a shame as a rare car now, had several cavalier variants in the past 1.6 1.8 and 2.0 hatch and saloons loved them all.

If a person on a motorbike hit whatever it was they would have been killed. Glad you are OK. We love old cars but the are only cars, not really important in the grander scheme. Lovely old Cav, hopefully you will have good memories of it. Looks like a lump of concrete but could have been a truck propshaft too.

Main thing is that you are ok how gutting for the car after all that work you’ve done 😢

My Son hit a Deer on that stretch of the M40 a couple of years ago. We had to have the front end of his Ibiza FR rebuilt. Feel for you after putting so much hard work in.
