+Owings Art Hey Marty, I love the Derwents but I have never used the Faber Castells so I'm not sure how they compare. The Derwent are limited to only 3 ratings: HB, 4B, 8B, but by using different amounts of pressure and water you can get all the ratings in between that you think you might be missing. Plus with the thick core you can get a long point to shade with. I'd like to see a comparison if you're up for it. The only quality problem I found with the derwents was that I don't think these are glued down the length of the barrel like they do with some of their other pencils. I found an 8B that was probably dropped and so the core was broken every 1/4 inch and pulled out as I sharpened it. But that was only one out of a dozen or so and 8B is pretty soft. It didn't discourage me though, they are great pencils and I use the regular Derwent Sketching pencils for ... well, sketching, and I love them too. The HB is especially smooth compared to some other brands. Thanks for all the hard work. -Pete

hitgar Hi Pete - That's great information. The Derwent's sound good. Although I've have the same breakage issues with other Derwent's from time to time. The quality can be spotty sometimes, but overall they're still good. Okay, I'll do a comparison soon and try to do a decent comparison on the two. I use the Coloursoft's to sketch from time to time and like the smoothness and colors I get from them. Anyway, I could go on about pencils :-). Happy New Year! - Marty

I also have a book that has faces and expressions I can use as well, but most times, I just try to use live people or my imagination. Are you volunteering? ;-) These Faber-Castell's are really fun to use and of course they have the very excellent quality we all expect from them. I'm glad people like the new intro. A friend of mine named Steve Murphy helped me with it, he's a film maker here in US. We just filmed it in regular time and then, we reversed it to get the finished effect. :-) Did you get my message from this week about RU-vid? +muskndusk Howdy - That's an interesting request. Okay, I'll add it to the list, but it's pretty simple. It's just used to make precise curves. I used them all the time when I was drafting. The curves vary, so you can just use them to get a nice curve. It turns out better using the french curve than trying to freehand curves. Happy New Year! - Marty

Hi Casey - Actually you're already using a time tested method to sharpen a pencil. That said a standard sharpener should work fine.
