We did a project with these in class. My students really enjoyed them.

I recently visited my local art store here in Germany where a lot of Faber-Castell products are availiable and saw a new pencil series that are supposed to be matt on their own. Didn't try them out yet but thought it might interest a few people :D amazing art as always, I usually use the graphite aquarelle for loose and abstract warm-ups just for fun but seeing you using them for finished drawings is really inspiring!

Using hot press paper is such a smart move. I don't have any, so have only been using cold press watercolor paper xD I should pick up some hot press next time. Thanks for the tips! This came out gorgeous :D

Really enjoy your work and videos! Couple notes, have you tried Faber-Castell matte pencils? They are pretty awesomely matte. Also, I recommend using a heat tool (heat gun or Ranger heat tool) for drying art. You do have to keep it moving but it is made for quick drying (the Ranger version doesn’t blow as much but over a wider area, takes a little longer). Hair dryers are slower and blow too much. Heat guns concentrate heat.
@Lachri
@Lachri 2 года назад
The problem with heat guns is it is SO easy to burn the work. They should never be used on acrylic painting because they can cause the paint to melt/bubble, but even for paper if someone isn't careful they can cause more damage than good so I don't generally recommend them. That said, they can be used on paper if the user is careful :)

I loved this ! Thank you ! Would you clarify what you are spraying the background layers with, is it distilled water or a chemical fixative.

I believe she's spraying distilled water to smooth the black even more

The background, if you keep layering it, will it keep getting darker or at some point does it max out?

I have tried several kinds of water soluble graphite and I struggle with them so much. what is the benefit of water soluble pencils compared to watercolour or non-soluble pencils? What is the competitive advantage of a soluble pencil?

Lisa, I discovered these years ago through YOUR CHANNEL!!! Big THANK-YOU because I LOVE them so much!! If you're in Australia, Eckersley's have them, and most Officeworks stores have them, and they are SO MUCH FUN to use! Just one question for you Lisa - after completing this piece - is your 8B now looking MUCH shorter than the others in the set?? 🤣🤣 In my set.. it's the smallest one there right now 🤣🤣 Thank-you so much for sharing this with us - really enjoyable to watch this piece come together so beautifully! Well done 🤗👍❤

👍Great tips. Thx Btw did you realize that the last minute of your video (starting at 15:55) it sounds like there is someone talking on the phone. It is actually louder volume than your promo voice over. (Either that or my hearing needs to be checked 😄)

Ugg thank you so much! Yeah, the news was playing while I was drawing, I didn't catch it when I dropped that end clip in /facepalm. I just edited the whole end clip out through youtube's editor. It should be removed soon /facepalm.

I actually made my own water soluble graphite I ground down a regular 6b graphite stick with sand paper mixed the powder with gum Arabic and a little water on a glass picture frame with a metal palette knife oh and if the graphite won’t bond to the water you need to Do one of two things either you need to mix more with your pallet knife or you need to add more gum Arabic
@gracearagon15
@gracearagon15 Год назад
Then I put it in a container to dry like you would with watercolor, you can use half pans or I used a little round wood container with a lid another thing u can use is a flat round tin like the one chapstick sometimes comes in
@Lachri
@Lachri Год назад
That sounds like a LOT of work given how inexpensive the water soluble graphite pencils are. What benefit do you find to making your own vs purchasing them?
@gracearagon15
@gracearagon15 Год назад
@Lachri the only benefits I've found I can use what I already have without having to buy something new. I'm on a fixed income and tbh poor and use what have most of the time the using it is about the same as store bought but it's in a paint cake format kinda how watercolors are but it behaves like store bought water soluble graphite and tbh I prefer it to the pencils but that's just me and my experience

@Lachri sometimes I can't even afford food near the end of the month so it makes since to me to spend less money on art supplies buy making them myself, ya know?
