Inked mine up recently, in gunmetal, with a M nib. My best pocket pen in my collection, and FC has one of the best stainless steel nibs for the price. Their converters have good build quality, too.
I guess I have sort of a love/hate relationship with this pen (though both words are overstrong); whenever I write with it, I really enjoy the nib/writing experience. It carries well, is light enough for summer carry (clip it on a polo shirt plaquet) etc. The negatives? I find it doesn't post overly securely and worse, the barrel tends to unscrew from the section while I'm writing. Wish they'd put an o-ring on it.
Ive owned a gunmetal version for some years. Great writer with a suspect build quality as you said. They used a specially tuned Jowo nib in my estimation. You get a similar writing experience with a TWISBI which has the same size nib from Jowo.
@@onemorepen Most steel nibs are hard due to the material used but they can still provide an excellent writing experience if tuned correctly. If you want softer you have to move to a gold nib but that comes with a big cost bump.
Too late to the party I would have liked to get the gunmetal matte version. I dislike shiny but I love the weight distribution of pens with heavier grip sections. Anyway, thank you!
I like this pen a lot! Unfortunately it no longer on the market and I'm not sure if Faber-Castell are planning to put it out on the market again. The thing that I wish such reviews include is writing sample on print paper not high quality paper i.e. Rhodia. Personally I tried the Broad, Medium and Extra find nibs. I recommend the fine nib with print paper. Generally speaking simple stylish pen and smooth nib.
It's now definitely overpriced. Couple of years ago you could get it for 20-25 euro if you didn't care about the color, now if it's available tend to be 40-50. I like that pen and the nibs are good. Medium is buttery smooth and springy, you can get some decent line variation for a non flex. The fine is smooth, but a hard nail
I have a Loom with a black cap, lovely smooth writer with a decent weight. I don’t find the slight ridges on the rest an issue but the clip does feel cheap and since yo mentioned it, I can’t not see it now.
@@onemorepen I was somewhat surprised to find "China" written under the clip. I've had my Loom for four years;no problems with the clip. I truly enjoy this pen.
Thank you for the review! I have a FC Loom with a medium nib. It is easily one of the best steel nib fountain pens I own. The section ring ridges on my pen are very smooth;I hardly notice them. My section differs from yours as it is shiny all the way down;not frosty-looking. The finish on mine is a dark gunmetal,but not matte,and has a black cap. I never noticed the clip being plastic,but I now see that it is. It is spring-loaded. The clip on mine does not seem to open as wide as yours. Pretty sure I paid $45-50 for my Loom. The Pilot Metropolitan is one pen I truly dislike. I know many people love it. I would not recommend it. The medium nib on my Loom is much smoother and wetter than any Metropolitan nib I have ever tried. I have other Pilot steel nibs on Kakunos and Preras;they are very good but not as good as the Loom I have. Unposted is how I like to use pens;this one feels even more balanced posted. Unposted the weight is definitely towards the nib,but not overly so. I may have misunderstood you,did you mention that your Loom has "China" written somewhere on the pen?
Mine has China written underneath the clip. And I do agree with you on the nib, very juicy and smooth. I am happy that you can enjoy yours as much as you do, that is ultimately what they are for.
@@onemorepen Eureka! I found the "China" written under the clip. Also the number "3" and letter "R". Never looked under there before. Cool. Thank you for that info. Figboot is the pen- guy who is a fan of the Loom and influenced me to purchase. I respect his experience and knowledge of pens. I couldn't get the exact finish I wanted and settled for the shiny gunmetal version. Glad I did. The dark, shiny gunmetal doesn't seem to show fingerprints as badly as regular chrome.
@@McAmeron089III I love Figboot's content too. When I bought my Loom I had no idea what to expect from the pen, and it was marked down a lot, so it was an impulse buy. If it had a smoother section - or maybe I should just modify mine myself - it would be one of my favourites.
@@onemorepen I ordered only M and B, and they are pretty good. Usually more problems are with finer nibs. But its is no rule: my Pelikan M 205 nad horrible niby B...
