This re iterates that not all papers are alike. I appreciate your openness and consideration to show that things don't always go right. This helps others. Sometimes disasters turn into miracles, but if they don't, the sun will still come up tomorrow. 😅

Hooray! An honest demonstration that happens to any of us who use this medium for any amount of time. Thanks so much!! It happens to all of us! It helps to know that you don't always have perfect pieces! Besides, you came out with a beauty.😊

Thank you for the honesty. Watching videos where everything works perfectly can make us feel inferior when we try things at home and they go horribly wrong. It is great that you show us how to redeem our mistakes. Thank you.

I absolutely love the first print! Genius to use the deep red remnants of the cheat sheet against the yellows. Gorgeous result!

The floaty quality of the paper is rather nice, and lets the paint talk differently. Perhaps it has less tooth so the colours tenderly touch the surface? It is hard to see everything on a pixellated screen.

I catch myself eyeing the gel medium as a way of lifting a ghost print now and then, and I'm going to give it a try next time it might call. The first of your ghost prints was truly so beautiful, and I thought that there is no way you could make it better. You completely ignored me when I told you that you should stop! When you lifted it from the plate the second time I gasped in delight. The dreamy quality of the print is gorgeous, and I wanted to applaud. Your ability to come back from a tear with reasoning and not beating up yourself for the outcome is commendable. Stuff happens when we do things experimentally. You are a true teacher to us, and thank you so much for the calm lesson.

I really appreciate the information about different papers and their qualities. The less expensive rosaspinas will definitely encourage me to try working on full sheets of paper, which will allow me to learn valuable lessons. My thanks, and I love your new website too.

Thanks for showing me this neat example; of what not to do.🎉 I’m always happy to learn from someone else’s mistakes. Your misfortune will save me time and money; thanks for taking one for the team. Sorry it wasn’t as you intended. I’ve never seen this happen when you’ve worked with regular paper; fancy name and imprint aside, it’s still only paper. FRAGILE

There are multiple opinions on how long to leave paper on the plate to avoid ripping and to pick up all the paint on the plate. Many people say to leave the paper for hours but it might depend on the weight and softness of the paper. I have been printing with rice paper and find there is a fine line between too long and too short. Oddly, deli paper is much more sturdy. Maybe some experiments need to be done with new papers. It looks like the quick lift is working very well for this paper.

I just gave my plate a spa treatment with baby oil, and it will help cut down on the stickiness. I will also avail of retarders and glycerin which seems to work.
@iknownothing-49
@iknownothing-49 Год назад
@@artwhisperer88 yes, I agree with the comment from J. I was thinking the same thing after watching your last video. If you have experience with retarder then my advice is unnecessary but if not, be careful with the amount of retarder you use. It can breakdown the paint ingredients. Golden also sells an open medium if you want to stick with the paints you have. Extending drying times has its pros and cons but I notice that you work slowly and thoughtfully so if you master the learning curve it might give you more options.

I have a Speedball plate! It is the worst thing. Paint won't come off, paper won't come off. I have used copy paper, rice paper, WC paper, card stock and more. Do You know if it is just 'cuz it's a speedball?? I want a bigger plate but not if it is like the one I have. Any advice? Thanks Sue
@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 Год назад
Hi Sue, I have never used a Speedball plate, you could try oiling it with baby oil and leaving it overnight. Before using it again give it a good wipe and test it out. You could also try to contact the manufacturer and voice out your issues. Hope it helps!
@carolmohamed5238
@carolmohamed5238 Год назад
Speedball plates seem to require the use of printmaking inks. You could try Speedball or akua inks and hopefully have a much different outcome. Oooor just buy a gelli arts or gel press plate.

@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 Год назад
countless times! What I found out is its not the amount of time, its the condition of the plate. The gelli plate needs to be oiled frequently to keep it in optimum working condition to combat aggressive stickiness.

It's a shame about that paper. It seems as though that paper was possibly laid up in layers and that is what has easily separated. If you have any more of that remaining you might want to try giving the entire sheet a coat of spray gesso before printing and see if that eliminates the separation issue. I really appreciate your videos BTW and just subscribed.

@lindyashford7744
@lindyashford7744 Год назад
You are very used to your tried and tested papers. The peppers you are testing do not work well with your current timings. So I think you need more drying time not less so the core of the paper does not remain wet and then separate. Overnight if possible, though that may not be suitable for your workflow. Que sera…. I have been using ordinary cartridge paper, the plate will release anything if the releasability if right. Your last print in the previous run of six, btw, was really beautiful. You have a talent for resolution that it can be compared to the jazz you love to play. The plates are a bit stretchy. I use mine on a glass cutting board which has a good grid on it, and pat and nudge the edges to the closest to true as possible, they seem to respond to this, I also release a hair bubbles at the same time.I like the edges true too, and like a clean print too. You do have to embrace the Gelli in its own right though, and that is that it has limitations but just huge potential for wonderful and wild results. On the whole I think Rosaspinas is more suited to a traditional press and oil based inks with very little stickiness. I have a yet different Fabriano paper sold by Jackson’s, inexpensive and with no apparent name, I love the Fabriano surfaces, it would be a shame if they all were more tricky to use. I am now curious as to whether it too will be fragile in the same way.
