Fabric Burn Test Cotton Vs PolyCotton :: by Babs at MyFieryPhoenix
Article with additional fabric/fibre burn results can be found at .....
It can be vital to know what fabric you are working with and here I show a simple way to identify Cotton, made with a natural fiber, from Polycotton, made with a man made fiber.
For our Wrap Pyjama Faries Project we need to use 100% Cotton so must be certain of the fabric construction.

THAT is exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you! I was given a bunch of fabric to make masks with but I had no idea, neither did they, what the material was. Now I have a lot to try. Lol. Thanks again!

Mrs Lizzie- I am making a bowl cozie, ( hot pads that you can put a bowl in and microwave it!- Pinterest ) BUT everything, the material, batting and thread have to be cotton to not have fires! That you for sharing this. As a old quilter, I have material that I was unsure what the fabric contact was!

My only suggestion is to do this outside. I tested fabric (for masks) outside and STILL felt sick from the smoke from the small polyester tests. Doing this inside would be very bad!

Thank you this was so helpful as I’m making face masks and it is important to know if my fabric is actually cotton.

Thanks so much! Like others, I’m trying to make cotton masks, but I seem to have only poly blends.

Thanks for this video, have some 100% cotton, unwashed, from quilt shops which burns slowly to ash, however there is an oily substance too. Wonder what that is? Perhaps dyes or some type of sizing applied to make it wrinkle-free on the bolt?
