If you are gumming black fabric maybe you should use black because it's black and white and if you know how to use it it won't leave stains on your fabric and moreover I don't think is advisable to use it on see through fabric but if not then follow the color of the fabric.
Yes, I made a black blouse, i couldn't find black hem gum so the stains and map of the gum is soooo prominent on the blouse, I've been trying so hard to find what I'll use to clean the stains
