I thought I wanted to make mine all the way from start to finish; cut sew, quilt. I have a quilting machine now but it will not quilt the size quilts that I prefer to make; full to queen size. So I’ve learned that I really do just like making the quilt top and prefer to send it off to be quilted. For years I have thought I wanted a quilting machine. And now, here is sit. I have quilted one quilt and it was fun so I’ll give it another try but, I really am ready to just make my next quilt top. 😜
Fran, you really gave a great tutorial. You gave easy to follow rules, but not in a condescending way. While explaining basic principles you gave your usual up beat presentation. I have 6 of your books, and enjoy using them for QUILTS OF VALOR and other donated quilts I am part of my church’s quilt ministry. ❤❤❤ 21:59
@@donnalynnhorniacek4785 Thanks for responding! I want to make a QOV for our son, who is active USAF, but it isn’t clear to me how to get started registering his name with QOV etc. I’ve been to the QOV website. My husband and I are quilters. We want to make the quilt and present it to him ourselves. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Donna! -Margaret
Fran!! Wonderful video. So informative. It’s easy to find a fabric you love, but coordinating it with other fabrics is the challenge. You made it so simple. Thank you. No wonder you’re the Fabric Matchmaker!! Blessings to you and the Fabric Cafe family!!
This is one of the most helpful videos I have ever watched! I now have hope that I can turn my rather large fabric stash into some great looking quilts :-)
Thank you so much. I am so color challenged. Mediums are my most difficult choices. Your explanation makes so much sense. Now, off to tackle my next 3 yard quilt.😊
I have been watching Terribly rads channel for a while now and her quilts are beautiful. I loved this tutorial and its filled with knowledgeable info. Thanks Fran for another great tutorial and sharing your your pro tips 😊
Choosing fabric is my favorite part ! I am probalby the wonkiest of quilters, but picking fabric is one thing I have confidence in. Hardest part is to cut it up!
You are amazing Fran......thank you for sharing all your knowledge of quilting. You covered the hardest part of quilting....selecting fabrics. Wonderful tutorial.
I echo many of the same comments! This was an absolutely excellent teaching video. You cover so many of the points of choosing fabric, but in an understandable way. Despite being an "older' quilter, I picked up many tips and had a couple of "Ah ha!" moments. Thank you so much!!!!
Hey Sarah! It is only available as a downloadable, but you can find it here - www.fabriccafe.com/Spools-Downloadable-5-Yard-Fat-Quarter-Quilt-p/091121e.htm
Fran. As soon as I get back to Florida I am going to get in touch to try one of your 3 yrd. quilt. It will be my first! So I will need your help. I have been watching you and your Mum and just live your videos.
Fran this is a fantastic video for us newbies! I love the frames you used to visually see the fabric. Brilliant! I will be creating my first quilt tomorrow and backing it with Shannon Minky Fabric! Can't wait to marry the two together!😍😍😍
I got a lot out of today’s presentation. I do follow Terribly Rad’s site. I was attracted to My Favorite Things through her presentation. I have had some pirate fabrics for over 10 years. I finally put it to use with that pattern. After today’s presentation, I need to pull more of my stash together. Thank you.
Love your videos! Always so full of information. I have most of your books and use them to make comfort quilts for charity through my Quilt Guild. One comment I have (hope it's not a repeat) is that some fabrics, mostly older ones but some new as well, do not have a full 42" USABLE WOF to be able to cut 10.5" blocks in any pattern that calls for that size!! I've had that happen a lot with the focus fabrics!! Maybe when you are presenting the tips and tricks in future videos, you might also want to mention to check to make sure the WOF is going to work for those particularly large blocks requirements.
Thank you Fran for sharing this one! I am always a little hesitant cutting my fabric. I'm afraid if I mess up that I won't find that print again. I can now look at my fabric using a cropping tool to really see the fabric and how different sized prints will look as different size squares. You have taken my hesitation away! 🥰 Thank you!
❤ Fran, you really know quilts, prints, patterns, and colors! Thank you for making the complex world of quilting into one easy, fun, and memorably creative decision after another! I just loved the surprisingly unique, beautifully coordinated and absolutely stunning results you were able to create for a wide range of people, preferences and purposes. ❤ 🏆 👩🏼🎨
What a great, informative video. I am often uncertain about choosing the best pattern to showcase my fabric. Your guidance will make the whole process so much easier and successful! Thanks, Fran!❤
Another great video to coordinate 3 yd patterns with the multitude of wonderful fabrics now available to quilters. The combination of fabrics chosen using these key strategies ensure a successful quilt! So, thank you for sharing the methods that Fabric Cafe has championed. And my quilts are better because of your tutorials.
Hi Fran. I would like to see a quilt that works better by switching your number 2 (light) and your number 3 ( dark) fabric. I think this could have been a consideration with the knome fabric
Thanks for lots of really great info, much appreciated. I’ve recently found terriblyrad. Been binge watching her RU-vid videos. Great to see other fabrics in your wonderful patterns.
Great tutorial, very helpful, appreciate the time and efforts you make to help all of us in the quilting world. I have made 3, three yards quilts so far and am very happy with the book and the patterns. Thanks again from Alberta Canada
I am finally ready to jump into some quilts that have been on my "want/need to make" list using the amazing kaffe fabrics. First up is your gorgeous Button Box pattern followed by either Sew Quick or Gallery using stripes! I am so excited to start these quilts. Next on my list will be making a quilt from the very beautiful Dominique pattern - just need to find the right fabrics! Your videos are always so inspiring! Thanks!
I love watching and learning from you. My problem is choosing a pattern. Maybe I should start with a pattern and then choose fabrics. I think I might also be afraid of too much contrast. I need to be brave.
Thank you Fran, this video is so helpful. I've only done a few quilts using my stash, just not enough confidence in myself. Today's video has given me information that I believe will be of great help.
Suggestion: I ordered and received the Modern Wonderland 3 yard quilt kit. What I loved was the suggested pattern, Attraction. Can I suggest that you include a picture of the suggested pattern to show which fabric goes in what position, when we order the suggested pattern. I had to go to the website and try to figure out how to print the sample in the kit information with the fabric. I am not making the kit right away, go figure, so by the time I would make it unless I printed off the sample Attraction with the Modern Wonderland fabric I would question fabric position. Also previous kits I have received were in a more permanent packaging and had a little pocket for the pattern. Those store so nicely, miss that way of packaging.
I see that you have patterns that you are giving pictures of with the fabrics you chose for the 3 yard quilt. Will you be adding these to the PreQuilt software? Love that software. Thanks for being part of it.
