The men's downhill run for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics and the steepest piste in Val d'isere I filmed this run in 2022 using a GoPro hero 10 at 4k resolution. Enjoy!
I did a season in Val as a ski rep/guide and this run at the end of the day was always a killer for tired legs! Its hard to imagine the pros just straight lining it back in the day.
Another great video like yesterdays. This one seems to be so clear. What a magnificent day. Clear blue skies! I noticed that there was some ice, but especially on the sides of the run, like most runs, lots of good snow to ski. I always tried to ski the sides because the snow would accumulate there...Thanks for a beautiful run!
Noah I thought of you today. I was considering whether to upload a snowboarding video tomorrow where I am filming. My friend told me that I don't have any viewers that are snowboarders so it's pointless lol However I knew I had one lol so hopefully you will at least watch the video tomorrow!😂
I have no idea how you manage to stay completely balanced in these difficult runs. I’m a beginner skier and whenever I turn on a steep slope my feet somehow travel faster than the rest of my body 😭 I watch your videos as an inspiration
I absolutely love Val d'Isere, I travel there every year and it is absolutely brilliant. I would advise anyone to go there, especially those who want to step up the difficulty of the ski resort and challenge themselves. My personal tip would be to ski in the Bellevarde (Olympic) in the morning and then go to Solais in the afternoon.
Magnifique cette piste ! La descente se passe crème mais on entend bien que la piste est gelée. Je crois que pour les championnats du monde ils y font couler de l’eau pour qu’elle gèle ! A quand les championnats pour Alex 😉 ?
did this run 2 days ago, the size of the moguls on the steepest part was ridiculous, defo do not ski this past 2pm if you want your legs to be okay lol
Love seeing your skiing improve so much. No more flat skis! Traveling in arcs. Obvious body dynamics. Nice narrow stance facilitates balance transfer. You are so much safer now. To yourself and others. Next step is to add some complimentary upper body skills to go along with your flexing and tipping. Look into counterbalance and counteracting (aka “angulation”) for your upper body which will greatly enhance your tipping and edging skills. Next step is full carving of the skis on appropriate terrain. What have you been doing so far to improve so much?
If you are still in Val d'Isere you could create a video about skiing down the longest run, the glacier Grand Motte which located in the bordering city Tignes.
Hey Yarosav I am not in the resort still but I did record that run I will be uploading it early next week. I visited a bunch of resorts and I am working my way though all the footage!
That looked cool. I'd like to see you ski (maybe from a follow me drone or a friend filming you) to watch your technique. Are you still doing the street view project?
Hi Michael, I will be posting some follow cam videos in March of me skiing and posting some of other people skiing over the next few weeks. Yes I am still doing the street view project and will be posting some updates in the next couple of weeks. With the uncertainty of the ski season and the difficulty with international travel its been on the back burner a little bit.
Comment faite vous pour connaître votre vitesse et votre emplacement sur la piste , c'est votre go pro ou est-ce un logiciel qui ajoute sa après coup !?
Hi Charlie, yes it will be open Tignes is a high really high altitude resort so one of the best for to go to this time of year. In fact the conditions should be great as it's north facing so it doesn't get that much sun it should be less icy that time of year. Have a great trip!
Hello, great vid. Can you please tell me what modes/settings do you use for your gopro hero 10? I have that camera too, but it just freezed because of cold weather and it turned off automatically (I was using Wide + 4k + 120fps) what fps was this recorded on? And also, how do you implemented that speed, altitude and other graphs in the video? Is it exported from some mobile/watch app?
Hi Dominik, that's quite a few question's are you using GoPro battery's or batteries from another manufacturer? 60FPS GoPro telemetry extractor is the software I use
@@dominikjanac683 no worries your all good. So it could be any number of GoPro glitches. Are you using a memory card that can handle the bitrate of 120fps at 4k?
@@Alexskiing Yes I do, its very good SD card by sandisk, 512gb. I guess that problem is overheating in cold weather, so it just Turns off camera, i will try to record on 60 fps, anyway 4k at 120fps is draining battery really fast.
It's very unlikely to be freezing because of cold weather. The GoPro hero 10 can glitch with large memory cards. To combat this record for at least 15 seconds if it's going to fail it will happen near the start of the recording. The other issue might be the temp of the battery when you start recording. Keep the battery you are going to use close to your body in a pocket. When you are about to film put it in the camera. If it is an overheating issue make sure you have updated the firmware as there was a patch for some of these problems in January. Also if you are not using slow motion 4k 120 FPS is pointless because very few screens can handle it and media platforms compress to 60 FPS anyway. Hope this helps.
It would be interesting to see a long video of just a whole day skiing, Not many have done it and those who have aren't great. Just an hour long gopro vlog of going up the moutain and then back down with an indication of what type of piste you're on
RamSquared I have thought about this for a long time. I now have a system to record a 8 hour day skiing at 4k I know that might be a bit long for you lol I will be posting in early March!
Looked into this aresorts arnt there with their mobile data coverage yet. Also because I'm not a national of the countries I ski data is so expensive for me. Next year I will come up with a plan!
You can't appreciate the balls and skill tbe downhillers have to ski these runs, when you stand on tbe top of the face and understand they are hitting it a full pelt on sheet ice, it takes some believing.
His pursuit of speed in the absence of the ability to control the skis and the track is dangerous for himself but above all for others. I wish you to become aware of this before anyone gets hurt.
The view and the weather was perfect, the skiing performance could be improved. I would rather prefer more skilled carving technics than not sufficiently showed uncontrolled skiimg speed
Your skiing mate: It's pretty decent for a "tourist" but as a ski-instructor I have to say this, you are not skiing correctly, as you are pretty much skidding on every turn you make. Skis are named carving skis because you are supposed to carve a turn not skid a turn. I advise you to take some courses with proper instructors if you want to elevate your skiing to the next level, and not ski like ..... a tourist
@@Alexskiing Sadly I don't have a job as instructor this season, but any local ski-school should be able to hook you up with someone qualified. I have 2 seasons experience with teaching and 38 years of experience skiing, and to be honest; i have mostly taught beginners, and your level is quite abit above that ;) - So if you were skiing with me, I could definately SHOW what I talk about, but my teaching skills might not be up to par. But I mean, if you want ME, then I can travel I guesss (living in Denmark) and I do want to go skiing.
@@Alexskiing If you are interested, we can arrange to travel to same ski area, where I give you some coaching. Considering most of my experience is with people less skilled than you, I would be willing to do it for a very modest pay. (Must be a top-resort like St. Anton am Arlberg f.ex. since I want maximum fun)
