UPDATE [8/9/14]: To those of you asking about Guardian of Light, yes i'm aware of it during the making of this. But because I couldn't find a decent high-res headshot photo of her in "Guardian of Light" at that time & which it wasn't really that of a main title in the TR series. Although I do know where you guys are coming from saying that it still should be included as it is, I do apologize for leaving that behind however if I was able to find a decent headshot photo i'd most certainly include in the video back then. Apologizes once again & Hoping this clear things up now.

I think her face in Underworld was absolutely amazing. I loved how she pulled many different expressions as she idled. I spent ages looking at her in game. I liked this video, it sure was cool

@@ASSOOOJACK It’s a separate timeline so the last games are not connected. The 2013 one is Lars from the Survivor Timeline, a completely different Lara that has a new origin to before she became Tomb Raider. Next time do your research before claiming something.

The one thing I do miss is the classic Tomb Raider music. I think that should return to the rest of the games. It was her signature tune. Kinda like the James Bond theme is associated to James Bond.

The only real complaint I have for the newest game is the utter lack of exploration. I don't want to sound like a Nostalgia-Whore, but I grew up playing the original games and the theme, all up until the newest one has always been consistent - A game of exploration, and, well, Tomb Raiding. There was always an awesome and complicated story to go with it, and accompanied by Lara's rich personality it was always perfection. Playing the new one, I felt like I was playing a first person shooter. It was ridiculous, I killed one baddie and fifty more took his place. There were objectives, which was cool as apposed to the original TR games simple 'Just explore and see what happens' theme. But there really wasn't much else to do - exploration? Sure, but only a little. The game was intense, but again, it really didn't feel like a Tomb Raider game.

Belen ZG They didn't get it wrong, they're rebooting, that means she has a new past. If you want to get technical, the ORIGINAL Lara's backstory was that she was a grown woman when her plane crashed, and she was the sole survive. In her time surviving the frozen wilderness she found her passion - dangerous exploration, thus why she became a tomb raider after she was rescued. Her parents, who wanted her to be a "lady", disowned her. The original Lara didn't give a shit about her parents.

+xchocosplash Certainly not ! It was interventionist, linear, limited and so casual that I absolutely can't figure out why so many players (probably the younger audiences) prefer that game. Come on, it was so freakin casual and easy... Those awfully short levels ! Those awful motorcycle sequences... No sense of loneliness, or mystery at all... Anniversary is a thousand times better already. It is quite backward-looking to say, but the original Tomb Raider from 1996 is still the best of them all, to this day. The reboots are excellent games, but not in the same spirit, they cannot represent the soul of the TR saga...

+Léonce Langdoicet Chill, linearity isn't always a bad thing, some of us enjoy having a structure to follow filled with fun and exciting gameplay along the way rather than wandering around lost because everything looks the same. Legend was more of a platformer if anything and the gunplay was super fun.

1:14 That's Lara Croft... That's how she should look. When I played the classics my mind would add in details. This is how she would look. I think it's the closest and most realistic promotional art to that of the Classic Lara cut-scenes. Next best would have been a mixture of this and Underworld Lara 1:20 . I grew up playing the classics, but I always liked LAU's version of her character. In LAU, I think CD gave her a lot of personality, but kept that classy, confident, tough and wry traits we knew. The new Lara is too ordinary in personality and looks. Very boring.

Rise looks better but still far from what I was hoping for. Of course, we've seen too little to fairly judge the game fully just yet. In some shots Lara looks great in others she looks like someone else entirely. And that voice... I hate it. Bring back Keeley Hawes! If I were single I'd marry her just to hear her Lara voice all day long. lol. But seriously, BRING BACK KEELEY! Keeley sounded sophisticated but this new Lara sounds prissy. Like she grew up around a bunch of cheer leaders.

And is the game realistic? Besides, she is a bit over the edge of reality but just a little. It saw them only twice in my life so far, they are rare, but there are real women who look very close to this game apperance. Of course, there are differences, but a real person can look so close to this fiction that you can;t spot the difference untill you take photos of the two and compare.

I have grown up playing and completing all the Tomb Raider games. I was very impressed with how Tomb Raider slowly got more and more graphic over the years. With the new 2013 Tomb Raider game, the story line, the graphics, the voices, the game play, everything was flawless!!!! Absolutly the best Tomb Raider game every!!!!!!!

The 2013 TR is by far the worst. Its a fun and enjoyable game, but I dont get why its called Tomb Raider. Literally nothing connects to the old games and the protagonist is everything BUT lara croft. I know shes supposed to be a younger Lara, but we had young Laras in both the Core and the Crystal games that were more realistic. The exploring factor is missing and the new one feels more like a shooter than a puzzle game. Like I said, good game, but no need to be included in the TR universe. (Also what happened to Laras boobs lmao)

i feel like they wanted to make lara look caucasian... i feel like the old lara was too brown so the new makers wanted to stir to her looking white. smh i love the old tomb raider games they made sense and was had good stories to tell. these new TR games i like them but they dont compare to TR, tr2, tr3, tr last revelation, tr underworld. this new tomb raider should have started from a young age with her parents or teen years after her parents death.

Loved the new Tomb Raider. I wish the tombs had better puzzles, but the character development was great, acting was good, story was intriguing, lots of collectables and always enjoy a good shooter. All around enjoyable game!

I absolutely love how each change has similar quaities for Lara. Even with her total remake in Legend, you could still recognize her. Lara's new changes give us different perceptions of her looks. Legend, Anniversary, Underworld, and Survivor still carry quality aspects. Her lips, hair, eyes, and youthful look. Such Iconic pieces to her face and point out the woman we love. I do look forward to the next Tomb Raider, and hopefully it will be just as impacting as the rest!

It's actually really fascinating to see how little Lara's face actually changed with each installment, especially from AoD to Legend & Underworld to 2013. (those were the supposed drastic changes, especially with a change in developer from AoD to Legend, but Lara surprisingly looks really identical, just more realistic. Same goes for Underworld to 2013)) Cool stuff! :D

The amount of depicted violence is radically higher in the last Tomb Raider than in any of the previous ones. Some parts of the game feel like a brutal horror movie. As a matter of fact a movie called The descent, which tells you about a speleology team that gets trapped in some uncharted caves, has been a major inspiration for some scenes of the game.

TR was never relatistic, so why SJWs have to mess into basics of some game franchise? Besides, you must not have seen too many women in my life. Of course, Lara used to be over the edge of reality but the Legend was just a little bit over the edge. I met only two such persons in my entire life, but it really happens to look almost like her... So close you won't spot the difference without taking photos and comparing.

They couldn't keep the same 3D model , because they changed the game engine. But they should have hired Megan Farquhar again, to make the new model after her.

@Maxawe Some It had nothing to do with the engine because it's just a 3d model. The reason they changed it is because they wanted it to look closer to the face of Camilla so as to capture her emotions more accurately.

gemmy2492 do you even know what a game engine is ? It had everything to do with the game engine, the developers said it themselves, the new engine uses a different technology. Also, it's not about the 3D model itself, it's about the more detailed texturing and mapping. If they wanted the model to look like Camilla, they would have scanned Camilla. The don't need to make a model look close to someone to capture their emotions. Remember Gollum , Caesar from Planet of the Apes and Snoke ? They were captured after Andy Serkis.

@Maxawe Some Yeah, I know what a game engine is. I'm an art student with a major in 3D modelling and we had a class in game development. Do you even know what a 3D model is? Of course the textures would be higher resolution and the hair technology and rigging would be better, but the same high-res model (you know, the one with millions of polygons) can be used and retopologized to create the same game character model but with higher triangle count and higher resolution maps. In another video, they said the goal was to make the face kinda close to Camilla, but not too close that it would look like her. In fact, at one point they started over again because the face simply looked too much like her. The movies you mentioned used a different method, which is placing hundreds of small plastic (I think) dots to the face. In this game, they did that too, but for closeups, they used special paint that puts thousands of dots to her face that are hard to be seen by the naked eye. So yeah, they had to make it pretty close to her face.

In some of the pop up "tips" in rise where it explains how to do something e.g. how to move an object it shows a picture of the 2013 version of lara with a dark blue tank top (which we've never seen before) and i believed she looked a bit better graphically. Its like the producers were gonna use the 2013 model for ROTTR but scraped it at one point and remade it into the rise lara. I thought it was quite interesting how they left it in still. Anyway i love the look 2013 and rise lara personally.

The only problem I have with Lara on rise of the tomb raider? is the eyes... the eyes doesn't say "Lara Croft" but her voice actress... They took out the sharp cateyes off from the original Lara and the first reboot game.

2013 reboot turned the original face into realistic version. I love it. The sequels took it a step further, but something is a little off compared to 2013 edition.

Angel of Darkness was the best Lara design in my opinion (the selected picture don't represent this very well). You can see old school Lara but it looks more next gen. It was the best possible next step and it just got worse and worse from there. Now we have a generic normal looking ->GIRL

I think Core Design did an excellent job called "Smart Camera" in all Tomb Raider games except "The Angel of Darkness (2003)". Even in the first Tomb Raider, in-game camera surpassed all other 3D games at the current time. I remember 1996 played Tomb Raider 1 in MS-DOS, and I was very surprise of the in-game camera panning and how smooth the 3D graphic was.

Yes, but you have to remember that the 2013 Tomb Raider was the first chronologically, so she hasn't toughened up into the Lara that we all know and love yet.

Legend Lara by far. New reboot is good and all, but for us old-school fans, it will never replace classic TR games. Also I'm one of those few people who actually liked AOD and Chronicles. I wish they'd make sequel to AOD as well, but it'll probably never happen.

Gareth Alford Well, i won't add the part "i hate tombs" that lara said in the game, i really didn't get the reazon for that, was it sarcasm, a bad moment? Man, that part is pathetic. anyway. TR 2013 is for the people who love uncharted, cod and gears. All in one place with a RPG touch. Why the fuck would lara need to make fire, improvised weapons? Where is the classic tomb raider. Can't the new people who are playing tomb raider for the first time understand what "tomb raider" means? I get what you mean, man, stealth, on a tomb raider? GOD DAMN'T. Every tomb raider that came before this awful game was to we make a way to end the level, so simple, so amazing. TR 2013 killed all that feeling, the magic that tomb raider 1-5 had, the feeling of been isolated. Lara croft is in the business to make her fame, she doesn't give a fuck to other people, except for the ones she loves. Making lara go to a mission to save people? What's her job? A Tatical ops? Lara doesn't need a reboot, we all know who lara is, she is a myth, she does everything in the perfect way, she knows what she do. ITS A GAME, i don't want fucking reality. Man, i get pissed everytime one says this game is the best of the series, if i could leave those people on the cisterns on TR1 with some aligators to rot for ever, i would do that. What i can see in the industry is that the word "fans" means nothing at all. The rise of the tomb raider, (what the hell does this title means). Can't expect much. Anyway, at least i got all the cannon games to play and cry on, and i have pretty clear in my mind, that those old games are GOLD, they have no price. They are the real tomb raider. I hope the noobs and the childs who love uncharted and those easy to play games get a chance to play those fantastic classic tomb raiders. Sorry for the long text and awful english + hate.

I was overly impressed with Tomb Raider 2013. It is by far my favourite up there with TR1 & TR2. I feel they got her look just right and provides a realistic look of what a younger Lara would have looked like when compared to the first two games. Can't wait for a sequel!
