I love apex. When my ocd was fresh I was scared to play shooter games as I feared it'd trigger my harm ocd but now I play apex relentlessly as it's my favorite game and I refuse to let ocd stop me from playing my game. Playing the game is one of those things that idk helps me feel "normal". Whatever normal is 😅

Doesn't necessarily help overcome much but Stray is a very unique game, calming atmospheres and soundtracks and a great story to it. A breath of fresh air to most games out at the moment. A great experience 😊

I think in this situation it is sometimes good to practice some cbt and meditate to bring yourself out of prolonged panic (obviously it’s not an ocd cure though). But I have to do this at times when the feeling of dying gets exhaustingly overwhelming.

This is actually amazing advice! I’m Muslim, and I remember reading about an incident where a person in a mosque kept feeling like they hadn’t washed/cleaned themselves properly and werent clean enough to pray until it became troublesome. So in order to help them and break that fear, the imam (priest) had them go to the bathroom, sit on the floor, and then get up and go pray without checking if they had any impurities on them. For the common person, this seems extreme and they’d probably never pray after doing something like that. But in a similar context to what this video mentions, you have to aim higher than the target in order to “break” whatever you have anxiety about.

I’ve been struggling with overcoming memory hoarding OCD. Each morning I wake up and instantly replay previous OCD thoughts … which in turn cause me to have increased anxiety. when I can’t remember certain parts of the memory…. I start to search to find an answer, and I’ll spend hours ruminating and questioning myself about if I should search my old phone for the answers, checking social social media accounts, and even asking other people their opinions which is crippling me. My OCD themes are almost always about the past and trying to discover why something happened. Its like I HAVE TO KNOW!! :( Im always uncertain and sometimes it hard to know what’s real and what’s simply fears & OCD.

I am currently doing exposure therapy about getting the train. So I started with some small trips, then the rail authority closed the train line for a month, so now I start all over again. Driving is another one, and I'm slowly expanding my range even if I am still getting big anxiety symptoms. Being consistent and doing it often seem to be key.

My Exam is in 2 months, and my Ocd is worsening. I have tried many times to stop all these but I always give up. I am under medications but medicines make me drowsy and dull. My ocd has seriously affected my studies in the past few years, and it is now attacking many other things I love doing. I have been kept in my mental jail and tortured by ocd for a long time, I can't take it anymore।

I'm writing this in hopes that someone has the same problem as me because I feel so alone in this. My main ocd theme is about rabies and whenever I see a random object on the street like a bag or something similar to that, my brain makes me think that the object was a bat, and then a false memory develops that I saw a bat on the floor and touched it and that I have rabies now. Then I have to wash everything, the clothes I wore that day and everything ever and continue worrying and ruminating and doubting was it actually a random object or a bat and if I'll die from rabies if I touched it ...I feel like Im going crazy

I deal with very similar issues. I'm still trying to figure out how to help myself but just know that you're not crazy and you're understood. Just gotta get control of our minds and stop letting anxiety convince us of these irrational things.

Nick, you said to pick up the biscult from the floor and eat it and if there is any consequence then deal with it when that happens. Wouldn't such "consequence" confirm the ocd thought that is NOT to eat something that is perceived contaminated? Wouldn't this experience simply confirm the ocd thought is correct? Pls tell us your thought on this Nick, thanks!

My biggest fear is i feel like if i become successful i would turn arrogant and would do injustice to people and would treat people wrongly. And also I'm so afraid of this that i can't even sit my legs crossed because i feel like I'm trying to show arrogance. And then i start to imagine treating people with kindness even siting in the floor while they're eating just as a reminder that im not arrogant and i never will be. But at the same time i want to be successful and praised or presentable in front of people. And this is the point of my conflict. So what kinda person i really am? What i really want?

I totally get this when you have a physical fear but what if your fear is in the future. What if you fear aging or getting cancer. I tend to google constantly looking at my fears but this only makes it worse and worse but wouldn’t googling about it be facing it or does it not work like that? Would you even be able to face that type of fear?

I would say you need to not Google those fears and say maybe it will happen, maybe not. Or maybe I'll get cancer, maybe not. Cool, I might get get Covid, that would be awesome! You face the fear by not looking up every malady or worry.

Do you have contact with any elderly people? Maybe getting old would feel less scary if you spent time around healthy elders and learned how aging can bring benefits that youth hasn't gained yet.

Whenever I take pictures of my oven, I know I am taking a step back because using that device to calm me down will bleed into other things I do. And I know it does, the control I need to keep ppl safe is impossible and yet I try. I have to keep telling myself Thoughts are not facts, and be okay with uncertainty

I have a fear of i might be a disappointed thing in my family,I'm scared of what my family really think of me,that everything I'm done is not enough to them and to others so I closed my heart to everyone else. I had try therapy and go to the gym but it's just temporarily,my ocd and anxiety keep building up until now,i need to rely on medical drugs and alcohol most of time or i might end up hurting myself again.

When I get waves of negative thought and ruminations I think about a ship in a storm. Anyone who’s driven a boat knows that when waves come you don’t want to take them broadside-you have to face the wave and let the ship go up and over it (or sometimes partially through it if it’s an extra massive wave). Nonetheless, have faith in your ships folks. As the great Mark Freeman has said: “it’s just brain weather”. And as Tank Tolman says: “Keep your oar in the water.”

I have this professor who would find ways to expose myself out there because "I'm smart but shy". I don't know if it's helping or it's worsening my anxiety. I don't understand why I can't seem to improve despite facing my fears. I just end up feeling burnt out. I successfully made a speech and it was nerve wracking, but I don't want to do it again given the chance.

But how do you do a exposure if it's future fear of death and losing loved ones one day? I mean it's a fact that it will happen, for me and loved ones. On bad days like these i think almost 24/7 about losing them and if i can handle that, how it will look like, how others handle it. How my own death will be. Then the emotions come to play and the DPR, and get triggered if someone has to go to the hospital, or i see loved ones, and myself getting older. I know it doesn't help by enjoying time with them now, and still i get stuck in these scary thought. The first thing i wake up i think about it. I really don't know how to handle that thought. Because i try to think ok yes it will happen someday, but for now you don't have to worry about that. We will figure it out when it actually happens. But i really don't feel the words i am saying to myself. Is it normal to not feel it at first for a very long time? Or does it mean i'm not doing it the right way?

I have existential ocd and I suffer from thanatophobia……..how can I overcome my fear of death? I’ve gotten better since August (which was my peak of experiencing dissociation and DPDR) but I still get those thoughts about what happens after death 😕😔

But what if I have fear of smoking but I'm an addict too, do I have to expose myself then too? How do we approach that?

We don't do anything that is going to go against your value system or break the law. I don't know your situation, but people often create steps to risk that they may smoke. Obviously a therapist can understand what you're going through and hopefully guide the correct steps.

I am a smoker. I fear it every time. I think about it every time. For me, I am scared to not smoke. I am afraid of the withdrawals. I'm learning to say no to a cigarette. I'm facing what might happen, if I don't smoke. I've been facing it like, maybe, maybe not. And, I still have a cigarette. But, it's been much further between them. It does make me feel like a badass. I hope that you can too!! Because, you are!! The fact that you are trying to find different ways says everything!!!❤ You've got this!!

Iam feeling this death anxiety from many days . But it's not about my death is about my loved ones . This fears are triggering me more and more . From last 3-4 days my mind keeps saying me that my loved ones are going to die or saying that they are already dead. Now my anxiety is becoming more and more . For some relief iam watching your videos then again my anxiety starts after some time and iam afraid of they will happen

​@@GamingMart Sometimes it's impossible but one thing to realise is that they are just thoughts that lie to you all the time. How many times have you feared something crazy would happen but it never did? Have to find some way to see them for what they are. Do you drink alcohol? What sort of life style do you have?

Anxiety is the basis of ocd. Clare weeks actually stopped someone who couldnt leave her home without turning off the cooker 40 times. Again another anxiety issue. Do the oppisite of whay your mind wants you to do. Your traching the subconcious mind that your the real minr and you make the decision.
