What's better - Facebook dynamic creative ads or standard Facebook ads? In this video I walk you through the pros and cons of Facebook dynamic creatives, and when you should use them instead of standard Facebook ads.
Dynamic creative ads do have some benefits, and they are recommended by Facebook as part of their 'Power 5'. But what Facebook don't tell you is that there are several downsides to Dynamic Creatives, especially when it comes to Facebook ad testing.
They do have some advantages as well, but only in certain situations.
Check out the video to learn when I recommend using them and when I think you're better off using standard Facebook ads.

Hey Andrew, great video! In the situations where you do use Dynamic Creatives, do you leave on the 'Optimize Creative For Each Person' option or turn it off? What are your thoughts on that? Thanks!

Great assessment of the pros/cons of dynamic ads. To be clear, the way that you run “dynamic ads“ is to set up all of the instances of creative combinations manually as standard ads and then allow those to run - correct? That way on each of those you can see the conversion metric for each creative combination. Just want to make sure I understand what you’re suggesting. Thanks again!

Hi Andrew Hubbard, I will say it again, your videos are 97% better than 99% of videos on RU-vid. regarding to dynamic creatives, they are not designed for A/B test. in my opinion to best strategy to run Dynamic Creatives is to run A/B test first and get the best headlines, best images/ videos. and put those winning assets together in DC ads and turn the optimzie per person feature as well.

Great content. I see it the same way, I do not test via dynamic creative, but set them up for the long run and let them algorithm do it’s job. Some of my best Campaigns are using dynamic creative for month’s and I will not extract them and run them solo. And that may even be better, when using only winners, like you just said.

Exactly! I see the same thing with Dynamic Creatives delivering some of our best results over the long term. They definitely have a place, just not in the testing phase.

I wish I could do more than "like" to help you reach a wider audience. I'll stick to the fact that I'm among the fortunate people who found your channel. I've watched too many people explain a bunch of strategies and technical stuff (and I am a Facebook Ads user for a long time), but I like to believe that I need to keep seeing myself as a student if I wanna be a hell of an expert on something, but your content and your advice are something more poetic than music to my ears man, I know a lot of stuff that you show, but it's your INSIGHTFULNESS that keeps me watching. I actually have a different point of view. So in the learning phase, Facebook starts giving every creative of a dynamic creative the same amount of money, but as soon as it learns that one creative is getting a lot more good results, it starts to put money into that good one and diminishes the amount of money from the bad ones, which is good for us. If, on the other hand, you force Facebook to spend an equal amount of money on all creatives, it will spend more money than it should on the bad ones, because FB as a company wants you to spend all your budget.

Interesting perspective Camilla! I really appreciate you sharing. I can certainly see where you're coming from - it makes sense. Do you ever feel Facebook doesn't give some creatives enough spend to have a statistically significant amount of data to make a decision though? That's the main thing that worries me - I'll see a creative or piece of copy that gets $2-$3 spent on it and then nothing, which I don't feel is enough to actually performed will or not. Curious to hear whether you experience that.

Thanks for the vid! I get the overall argument but I highly doubt that fb would be optimizing spend on certain creatives without reason - aka they would need to ensure that the performance on those is statistically significantly better than others before concentrating funds on a particular creative. I also don't think that cost is a good way to make that judgment on our end - fb isnt necessarily giving every unit of compute power (or whatever else contributes to cost for them) that they use to run ads the same weight in contributing to the overall dollar amount that we pay.

For quick tests especially for low budgets, Dynamic Creative Ads is just a waste of money I think.

Mmmm... if facebook decided not to give you more budget it was because the algorithm identified that it was not a working ad. The same thing happens with abo campaigns with more than one ad, even if the ad set has a set budget, the ads will not have the same ad spend, this varies depending on performance. Facebook optimizes that!

Right, but the problem is when you get very little or even no spend on some ads. Even a machine can’t know the ad didn’t perform if it didn’t show it to a statistically significant number of people

And set the same budget for each ad set which has only one ad in it. Only this way can make sure every ad has the same and enough budget to get the significant data... But it means ABO is useless then... Hope to know your idea on it, Andrew. Appreciate!

@@marszhou2590 I'm also curious about this and looking for a better way to analyze my primary texts. I guess the only way to properly test and analyze this is to have multiple ad sets (with the same audience) linked to the same ad creative, but with different texts?
