Facilitating Access to Social Media Data: Bridging the Gap between Social Media Data Providers, Researchers, and Users
Social media play a crucial role in contemporary society, and research using their data advances our understanding of human behavior, social systems, political sentiment, and more. In recent years, privacy and other concerns have caused social media data to become increasingly restricted and costly to access. The Social Media Archive at ICPSR (SOMAR) is dedicated to improving access to social media data and research through building partnerships with social media platforms. This presentation will spotlight our integration of the Meta Content Library API into SOMAR’s virtual data enclave, as a case study for using new technologies to increase the usability and interoperability of social media research data.
