Nah man if you are literally unable to go out and stop after one or a few drinks, or even none, then you're probably an alcoholic. Getting sloshed on a night out every now and then is normal, doing it every time is not....

e c well, I only drink like. Three times a year, but everytime I cant stop myself from drinking until I throw up at least once. Not an alcoholic, just lose my self control when I drink, even if I only drink a little and start out telling myself I won’t drink more. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. I've been drinking for years, but I only ever got sloshed once, during college. The following morning was hell, and I haven't got that shitfaced since. However, I'm glad I did got shitfaced at least once in my life. Now that I'm older, I think I can control how much I drink. For instance, when I go to pubs with friends I only have two (sometimes three) pints, and that hits the spot.

It is. Having a nice glass of wine with dinner is one thing, but drinking to always get drunk or binging like these sad kids here is senseless and a waste!! If you feel the need to drink to get drunk in order to have fun, let lose, deal with stress or any other reason, then there is a deeper issue going on with you that you must confront and deal with. The drinking only masks that problem and shoves it down temporarily so you don't had to deal with it in that moment, but it doesn't fix it and it won't go away or resolve itself. Those issues will just build and build and build, getting bigger and bigger, more serious and more out of control the longer you do this until it all boils over and you find yourself in a very precarious situation that's very serious and dangerous.

I once fell down 2 meters because of a blackout (I wasn’t too drug, I was also dehydrated and it was very hot and crowded). I fell down from the first stair step and landed on the floor on my left temple. It took me a while before I woke up. My temple were the size of a tennis ball. I got in an ambulance and I couldn’t feel anything “wrong”. The weeks and months after I went to regular doctor appointments to get checked. I have so bad nerve damage over my left eye that if I massage it, my sight will dissapear for a few minutes. I have gotten tinitus (ringing noise in my ears). I had black/blue marks per step of the stair on my entire body. I have suffered from hip pain ever since and whenever I reach my lower back turns to gel. I was 1 cm from dying and a few mm from being paralyzed from the neck down. I feel lucky every day. I have braindamage (probably had that anyway lol) and I stutter a little. But this is better than being paralyzed or dead. I don’t drink anymore. The accident happened almost 6 years ago, but I quit drinking 100% a year ago. Whenever I got a glass of wine I got anxiety and was afraid of walking stairs. So I decided to just stop. I don’t miss it ^___^

It's not just accidents that are an issue. If you're a regular heavy drinker, it will shorten your life, probably dramatically due to preventable illnesses such as alcoholic fatty liver disease (which can lead to cirrhosis and death), alcohol-related stroke or alcohol-related dementia. If you are an occasional binge drinker, then you have less alcohol tolerance compared to someone who drinks heavily daily, and you are at risk of lethal alcohol poisoning. Alcohol poisoning doesn't wait around. You will fall into a coma and can die in a matter of hours. Drink responsibly, get help if you need it (a quick google search will tell you about all the services in your area) and when it is time to stop, stop.

I quit drinking because I don’t know how to have a healthy relationship with alcohol. I can’t just have a couple glasses of wine or a few beers, I have to drink until I’m so drunk I pass out, black out or do something stupid that I always regret. So therefore since I was a binge drinker I decided to quit altogether. It still gives me anxiety, it’s so hard to not want to drink.

I’m a former alcoholic. My ex broke up with me because I was literally drinking everyday and that pissed him off. Also ruined my career with alcohol.. so now I’m sober and trying to get my life together since one year.. it’s starting to get better. You sure CAN drink alcohol and have fun but if you’re like me and begin to drink alone, very often and very intensely you’re just sick. It took me a while to realize that.. Drinking too much alcohol isn’t funny when it’s starting to ruin your whole life.

If you HAVE to get drunk every time you drink, or if you just want to drink a little bit but always end up wasted... that’s how I was. It took a lot of years, a lot of blackouts, a lot of ruined relationships, a lot of embarrassing moments and regrets to realize that I CANNOT drink. I wanted so much to be a social drinker, but some of our brains just aren’t wired that way. I wasn’t an alcoholic but when I did drink, I couldn’t stop. I could go a year without ever having a drop of alcohol. But when I did drink, I’d get hammered and make an absolute fool of myself and be hungover for days. I went on my first real adult vacation with my best friend this last month. To a party town. I didn’t drink a single drop of alcohol and it was the best week of my life! And I can remember ALL of it! Nothing, NOTHING good comes from getting drunk. I have learned this the very, very, VERY hard way and I’ve tried to disprove myself on that many times. But absolutely nothing good comes from being intoxicated. I’ve had friends killed in drunk driving accidents (they weren’t the ones drinking), I’ve had friends clinging to life because of alcohol poisoning, friends in jail, marriages ruined, careers ruined... it’s not worth it.
@bakirev

It kills me that I've hurt so many people cause of alcohol and put myself in dangerous situations because of it . I'm scared. But I hope I have the strength to truly stop like you did. I don't think I can handle hurting anyone else. Or risking myself..
@keatonscreations
@keatonscreations 2 года назад
@@mayakigen5143 thank you for sharing your story with me. I’m so sorry you’re struggling. The good thing is that you’re aware of how it’s affecting you and you’re not in denial. It sounds so cliche, but admitting you have a problem really is half the battle. Do you drink all the time or do you binge drink? I can’t take all the credit for getting sober. I was addicted to drugs and alcohol and at my lowest point I prayed a desperate prayer. I said “Jesus, I don’t know if you exist, but if you do, please do something big to FORCE ME to get clean and sober. I can’t stop on my own, I’ve tried and I’m going to die like this. If you’re real, please MAKE me get clean and sober.” About two days later I found out I was pregnant and that truly forced me to stop. I’m not saying I’m the Virgin Mary lol. But I do believe God allowed it to happen at that exact moment in time because he knew that was the only thing that would make me stop. The pregnancy itself wasn’t necessarily the miracle. The miracle is that my attitude towards drugs and drinking shifted immediately. My priorities changed, my interests changed, I had no desire whatsoever to get drunk or high- and not everyone that gets pregnant can say that. A lot of people stuck in addiction can’t stop using even if they’re pregnant. So, I don’t know if you’re into praying or not, but if you are- or even if you’re not (what’s there to lose?)- I encourage you to pray a similar prayer. “God, I can’t stop on my own. I need your help. Please do whatever it takes to get me sober and keep me from hurting anyone in the process. Please do something to FORCE me to stop.” I’m not here to preach or convert anyone. I just know that when I was totally out of control and I asked God for help, he showed up. I also highly, HIGHLY recommend getting into a rehab program and if you drink daily or you’re fully dependent on alcohol, a detox program. I didn’t go for a long time because I had this idea of what rehab was and I didn’t want to be locked in a hospital for 6 months. But I found a fantastic program by me that did OUTPATIENT detox and rehab. I went there for several hours a day and they had everything I needed right there- doctors, therapists and counselors, etc. It was so helpful and the things I learned there are still helping me stay clean and sober today. I always encourage anyone struggling with addiction to get professional help. Don’t let anything stand in your way of getting into a rehab or detox program. I know a lot of people say they can’t go to rehab because they have work, or they don’t want their family and friends to know (which they need to anyways), or they don’t want to pay for it, or they have school, or xyz. All of that stuff can be addressed later. Getting sober can’t wait and needs to be top priority, because you wont have any of that stuff if you continue drinking anyways. You can do it! It IS possible and I know it feels like this massive challenge, like climbing Mount Everest. But you do it the same way people climb Everest- one small step at a time. Just choosing to be sober for that moment. You don’t have to worry about being sober your whole life- just one day at a time. One hour at a time. One minute at a time. Just choosing not to go out for this Friday. And then when Saturday comes around, choosing not to go out and party for that day, too. And then the next. It’s one small step at a time that adds up to weeks, and months and years, slowly but surely. I know you can do this!!

I'm very lucky that something devastating didn't happen to (or caused by) me. If you ever feel like you might need to stop, just try it out. For a day, a week, whatever: you don't have to commit to never drinking again, just give it a test run. For me it was the right thing - I'm 32 now and ten years sober. And if you do decide to stop, know that AA is helpful for many, many people but it's not for everyone. It's a tool, not a requirement. The only "right" way to get sober is the one that works for you.

I have never even sipped on a glass of beer or wine or anything else and I know why I don't do it. My father is alcohol addicted and that's why I decided for myself to never drink any kind of alcohol. I have to mention that it's socially not really accepted to not drink alcohol first of all because I'm a 16 year old teenager and second because I live in Bavaria,Germany where alcohol is actually a part of the culture and kids grow up drinking from their parents beer glasses and it's totally normal to have a complete hangover after the weekend. Maybe I'm not normal but that's just something I think is necessary.

My dad drank a lot when he was dating this girl who was an alcoholic. I was only 15 at the time and we almost got into a car crash cause he was driving while intoxicated. Instead of taking me home from the movies he sped and swerved to his ex girlfriends house to yell and scream at her. That was the most terrifying day of my life and I'm so happy I'm alive. My dad taught me why I shouldn't drink and I never plan on touching a drop in my life.

My mom passed away March 9th 2019 from end stage liver failure from alcoholism. She was 58 years old. She was told 5 years ago if she didn't stop drinking she wouldn't make it past 5 years. She didn't take it seriously and kept drinking. This last time she ended up in the hospital they gave her 3-6 months. She didn't make it 1 month. It was so hard watching her slowly decline for two weeks. In the end she could only lay there look up and the ceiling and stare. She slipped into a coma and passed away. I have been sober off drugs and alcohol for 17 months. I'm happy she was able to see me sober. She had one less thing to worry about while she was passing. I could be there for her completely and never left her side. God never gives you more then you can handle and I'm grateful everyday he took my mother to heaven knowing I had a good foundation of sobriety. Otherwise I don't know where I would be now. I love you Mom. Your my best friend.

This is vain but the biggest thing that made me stop drinking was that it makes girls gain weight and there’s no way I was gonna let that make me feel bad about myself. So I just quit cold turkey. I personally don't see the appeal what so ever. It doesn't seem to smell nice. It doesn't taste that nice either. I've only had about a glass worth in my life time and that's enough for me. I really don't see how people can drink the stuff personally but there you go.
@twinkletoes6290

Most of it doesn't taste good, it's rather odd especially considering so many people just guzzle alcohol. Now, I do like to have a nice fine and expensive glass of wine with a nice dinner. The wine, to me at least, tastes wonderful and you can taste all of the flavors, under notes and flavor bursts. But I only drink fine wine that's from a good year and excellent vineyard, which means it's rather expensive, but it's worth it to me.
