Space exploration dev is making a normal mode version of their hard mode end game mod and getting paid for it. Kinda brilliant actually making an easier steping stone to ease more players into your bigger more complex mod.
I wish more companies would hire their best modders. You end up with a passionate developer who already understands your game well. It's a win-win for everyone.

Such a shame I’m playing SE on my second play through completely blind. Its going well so far, but I haven’t actually gotten to space yet, working on early game

@@KiaulenYeah there's been several instances of this happening, I think the most famous is the Portal team. The most recent one is a housing modder for Skyrim being hired for Starfield.
Well to be completely fair, space has been an idea theyve shared years ago but never got to, _and_ they got the Space Exploration modder on the official team for Space Age.
yeah he can sell his mod and they can just count the money. win for them. we lose any hope for real new features. any other ideas for mods they could sell?
@@KyusoathNot really, every single planet has a different theme and challenge. I could imagine the one where you unlock cliff bombs to be a mountainous one where you need to scale, while the Artillery one could be more of an attack on the bugs. This is just speculation, but I trust in the Devs. On the topic of other DLCs, a water or cave exploration could be great with many new challenges and such.
@@Kyusoath A mod that applies sugar to YOU.... you sound very bitter about all this. Wube gave me a game for 20 quid and I've had over 2000 hours out of it. If I want Space Exploration I can download and play it... I have. If I want Space Exploration that is cleaned up had the very rough edges taken off it and is fully integrated in to the game engine and the games actual core game play along with the polish that comes from having a team who know the ins and outs of that game engine working on it AND the mods original developer gets a job and paid for it then I am happy to pay the 10 to 20 bucks it costs.
Also, we know from previous posts that many aspects of the game are being overhauled, like combat, resource processing, and enemy composition. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the “engine limitations” included stuff like lakes of sulfuric acid and biters evolving differently on different planets.
Maybe im just a nerd extraordinaire, but in those FFF notes they said they have office lan parties to test the feel of the game. That sounds like so much goddamn fun 😭
Selling a mod to idiots that will pay for it. and they got the guy that made the mod to say 'yeah this mod we are gonna sell is totally different from the mod we are not selling, for real i swear, look its got new graphics, thats what matters right , the graphics! " they even admit they did most of the work ages ago but ditched it to sell it later.
@@Kyusoathit is entirely different, with a different audience in mind. Also calling Space Age a mod is dishonest, it is a DLC that easily doubles game time. I would probably never understand a lot of space exploration, but space age is meant for noobs. The addition of the Space Exploration Developer was also to make sure there are differences. Notice the rework of 2 planets due to too much grind. Space Exploration gives you two planets to mine and compact some materials. I expect a 5 year DLC to be great, especially because of how WUBE is behind it.

@@KyusoathMaybe you should've read the blog post first, because your wrong about literally every single point you make. The mod dev is now working on the expansion and wrote the blog post, going into great detail about the obvious differences between the mod and expansion. Like the target audiences and design philosophy being totally different. They share a theme, but that's it.
Woke up to this in my twitter feed this morning, lots of good information and I'm looking forward to all the information we're apparently going to be getting over the next year or so, especially the QoL updates that I'm hoping we'll hear more about sooner rather than later.
Good to see a kind of space exploration that also makes it easier for other players to enjoy the game more! I've played Space exploration myself and I'm currently stuck on the arcospheres, that's where my brain turns to mush.
I feel like most of the work they will be doing on the game for the next year is Balancing and Bug Fixes. You can’t have a broken Factorio release so that’s probably priority 1.
I'm disappointed a little. I suspected DLC can be space-themed since Earendel was hired, but hoped for something different. Also the fact that expansion will not be 100% compatible with existing bases is sad. But anyways QoL improvements are very welcome, I'm confident I will play Space Age some time in the future.
One thing that is not possible in mods, but possible in expansion is temperature in fluid pipes. Look at the video. Space ice rocks get captured by claws, shredded and then used to cool thermal fluid in pipes to cool engines. Its not thermal fluid from SE, bc it is all connected to the same fluid system.
people said there was no way this expansion was gonna be space themed cause space exploration exists people still said this when it was revealed earendel was working for wube i told them it was probably gonna be space themed it feels damn good to be right
Thank you for info! Leaving additional comment to say I question gating "mid-game" content behind space travel being reasonable. Player should be motivated to explore other planets not by "stealing his walking cane" (essential QoL features, like cliff explosives), but by entirely new technologies or poweful buffs to existing ones, new useful resources, etc. Making new worlds a solution to made-up problem on starting planet feels extremely odd and demotivating.

I would've preferred if they just expanded and polished the already existing space exploration mod but this is nice for the more casual people at least.
It seems really similar to Space Exploration at first glance, but the fact they acknowledge this and give it to us straight gives me confidence. Having the actual SE dev on the official team helps too. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the future FFFs to see how they differentiate themselves from SE.

I cant wait to see more about this. Looks like they are doing some major changes. I want to see the new planets and its lifeforms. Altough, i dont really like the look of the space platforms. They feel odd to me... Of course i hope to see more details in future posts, but i was expecting some kind of space ship building and customization system or something similar to what travelimg trough space actually looks like. Still i love all the improvements Sorry the bad english, i am still learning 😅

We will be able to disable the expansion if we want right? Kinda like it being a second version of Factorio? Making a single megabase in one planet is difficult enough imo, let alone multiple planets.
they hired him so they could then sell his mod while he thinks he is rewarded. unless they give 100% of the profits to him, but they are not gonna do that, this is a cash grab.
Honestly most of them will just have to update to work with thr base game tweaks and then be fixed from there if theres some kind of issue with the expansion since it apparently is gonna be like a mod
Considering how solid the API and mod support has always been, I think it will be "mostly fine". There's many QoL mods which will probably work flawlessly, because a large part of the API will not change, just expand. Many mods specify something like "dependencies": ["base >= 1.1"], which means they'll work in 2.0 even if the dev doesn't update the mod at all. Overhaul Modpacks which affect balance might still work in 2.0 with "SpaceAge" disabled, but run into serious progression issues if played together with the Expansion, similar to how you can't always pair multiple overhaul modpacks together without altering some tech progression & recipes.
Also I'm confused by this WUBE abbreviation. First, there's no U in "Wszystko będzie". Second, this looks like Polish, not Czech language. Wube is based in Czech Republic, why suddenly Polish?
@@RandomPlaceHolderName they mention it will be coded as a mod, so most likely (in my opinion) they will simply keep cliff explosives regular-level accessible on vanilla games and only gate it when the expansion is enabled edit: so it is we, the poor sods who play with the expansion, who will have a hard time coping
It's cool for factorio as a whole, but for me personaly... space exploration, but easier (and with better looks)? Kinda not very impressed. I hope that further news will make it more interesring.
They completely ripped off Star Wars. Are they even going to reimburse Gorge Lucas for copying his idea? It's not like anyone else ever thought of having sci-fi in space!
I love space exploration, but my biggest problem with it is accessibility and balance. I never really have been able to go beyond 1-2 space science packs as the game kinda feels like a slog. I also really dislike how overcomplicated launching rockets to space to transport resources is too. Hence why I tend to prefer more dyson sphere program rather than space exploration when it comes to interplanetary transportation. But to be fair, its just a personal preference. I just prefer complexity from recipes and unique buildings, not logistics complexity that requires you to remake everything a dozen times due to doing it wrong.
@@Agnathor Well that is kinda what I mean. What ends up happening typically is I reach a slow point due to logistics issues with rockets or I need to make expensive outposts to speed up production. Fundamentally though, my main issue is using rockets for transportation because it's so expensive. Also time consuming to work with until you automate requesting.
So it's just dumbed down Space Exploration at lerast in terms of vanilla conents. I'm more intrested in what modders can do with whatever new engine features they add.
