Brand new and just finished Factory Five Gen 3 Daytona Coupe #59. With Ford Performance Gen 3 Coyote power. Taken while on display at the 2020 Detroit Autorama. A lot of background noise, so turn up the volume to hear the narration. Sorry about that.

Beautiful job you put together. Did you lower the gas cap into the body? Do the rear kidney shaped vents , really vent and from where is the entry point? It looks like you placed the fuse box in the driver foot box?
@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 Год назад
Thanks. The gas cap is under the LeMans style cap/cover. Kit supplied and in the kit location. No modifications. The rear vents in the kit are not functional. In the originals, those vented the rear brakes with air from the scoops behind the side windows. In the kit, the side windows are vents for the interior. I have them blocked off most of the time because we drive with the heat and A/C on as needed plus it's quieter. Yes, the main fuse box is in the driver side (left) footbox. The fuse box for the Coyote is on the firewall under the hood.

@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 4 года назад
Thanks. Kind of a combined effort. I did all the design and fabrication. Using some of the Factory Five parts but also some new ones. The instrument cluster, switch panel and glovebox are all from my workshop including vinyl wrap. The interior shop did the red stitching and loosely attached those pieces. I did the rest. Wrapping, cut-outs, details, etc. Interior shop also put edging on some of the carpet pieces. But I did all the carpet installation.

@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 3 года назад
Thanks! The color is Ford Red Candy, code RZ. Technically is a tri-coat (base, tinted mid, clear) but the shop worked with Sikkens and they mixed as a regular base coat/clear coat. Probably not quite the depth of a true tri-coat. But it's beautiful and much easier to touch up. I'm very happy with it.

Beautiful job Paul. I’m trying to decide between building one of these or the Cobra. It’s a tough choice, and your beautiful build has made it tougher to decide. Anything you would do differently now that it’s done?
@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 3 года назад
Thanks. They're both awesome. But after 10+ years of the Roadster (Cobra) we are enjoying the somewhat improved creature comforts and improved cruising with the Coupe. Plus it's very unique. Just not that many out there. Little/nothing I would do differently. Very happy with all the build choices. Only small thing I might consider would be door poppers. We've found we like it better with the windows in all the time. So it's a little bit of a reach to the door handles through the sliding panel. Thought about door poppers briefly during the build, but I had already make enough changes that I just wanted to get it gone and not introduce more.
@wingspanfan
@wingspanfan 3 года назад
@@paulborror2544 Thank you for the reply. You hit on exactly the reasons why I’m considering the Coupe over the Roadster - improved comfort, beauty and uniqueness. How do you find the sound level with the side pipes you chose?
@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 3 года назад
@@wingspanfan no sugar coating it. It's loud. We wear ear plugs and it's fine. The Gas-N pipes I used are quieter than the Factory Five stock pipes. But still loud. There are other options that are a bit quieter. But ultimately the Coupe is just plain loud. Everyone including Dave Smith acknowledges it. Pipes are tight on the body and the sound just bounces around inside. And mine is very well insulated. Under car exhaust would probably be better. But the frame is very low so would not be easy. Seems also would take mods to the body to look right. Besides for me the twin side exhaust is one of the cool design features.
@wingspanfan
@wingspanfan 3 года назад
@@paulborror2544 Agreed on the side pipes. So would you say the Coupe is louder due to the acoustics you mentioned? Sorry for all of the questions. Since you have both, you’re real world experience is very useful in helping me to decide which one to build. I appreciate your taking the time to answer.
@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 3 года назад
@@wingspanfan If you're asking if the Coupe is louder than the Roadster, then I would said no. At least in my experience. Similar, but the components of the sounds are different. In the open top Roadster, you get road noise, traffic, wind, plus engine/exhaust sound. The Coupe is mainly just engine and mostly exhaust. Keeping in mind we drive with the windows in and the scoops blocked off. I've done sound pressure tests on both and the decibel readings are very similar. We wore ear plugs with the Roadster and now do the same with the Coupe. As I said, for us not an issue. Both are at the levels that sustained exposure can cause hearing loss. We weren't surprised by it. But some are, thinking the Coupe will give more daily driver noise levels allowing conversation, music, etc. Then are disappointed. BTW, if you want to dig into the details of this build, it's documented here: thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?26630-Edwardb%92s-Gen-3-Type-65-Coyote-Coupe-59-Build.

Hi I would like to ask. Do they bulid the car at Factory Five or do they these send you boxes of the car for you to put together to keep it as a kit car when titled?
@paulborror2544
@paulborror2544 4 года назад
Factory Five does not build completed cars. They only sell kits. All assembly is completed by the buyer. This Daytona Coupe kit was delivered to my home in December 2017. Came as a welded chassis, raw fiberglass body, and 30+ large boxes of parts. The crate motor, transmission, and rear differential along with many other parts were purchased separately. It was completed just before this video in April 2020. I did all the work in my home garage with the exception of the paint and the red stitching in the interior. How these cars are titled varies widely depending on local regulations. In Michigan (where I live) they're an "Assembled Vehicle" and the year is the year titled.

If you’re saying it would look better with less gap between the tires and the top of the wheel wells, I don’t disagree. However at the ride height pictured, the frame and nose are under 4” from the ground. Really close for street driving. An inch or two lower would be a major problem. Not happening. I already really have to watch certain driveways, inclines, etc.
