FACTS about Kingston you probably did not know. (History of Kingston, Jamaica)
History of Kingston & St. Andrew
Kingston Early Beginnings
The parish of Kingston is the capital of Jamaica and it is located on the south-eastern end of the island.
Until 1692, the parish of Kingston did not exist. Kingston came into existence in 1692 after a massive earthquake and it’s subsequent after effects, destroyed two thirds of Port Royal and killed about three thousand inhabitants. Survivors of the earthquake fled to the Liguanea Plains only to perish from exposure and disease. As a result, two weeks after Port Royal’s destruction, the government purchased two hundred acres of land known as “Colonel Barry’s Hog Crawle,” at a cost of £1000. Up on until the sale, the land was owned by Sir William Beeston who was absent from the island at the time, therefore his attorney Nicholas Lawes, conducted the sale on Beeston behalf.

@@coko6641 agreed. Maurice's advice is correct, text book journalism. Its purposes are: 1. to be clearly audible by the largest audience, and 2. to represent the message professionally to increase the perception of reliable accuracy. However, new age media has proven that a unique dialect representing your culture has greater mass appeal than perfect english, and the pros likely shadow the cons. Its a new media landscape with evolving rules.

I went to high school in Falmouth. The first year William Knibb became a public high school. There is a ton of historic features in that area. I remember how the design of some of the buildings match those of old US cities like in New Hampshire. I used to look at the headstones in cemetery at the church in the square because of the old dates. I remember also that there were sugar mills built by slaves..one was on the William Knibb campus. Since Falmouth is such a historic town, would love to hear the history along with maps and artifacts.

It is painful that all the dates being mentioned here that Black people were not a part of any of those decision making! Indeed, up until 1838, our African brothers and sisters had been slaves and chattel in Jamaica! And after slavery ended, indentured workers from India and China were brought in to do the hard labour, thereby keeping the freed Black Jamaicans still desperately and frightfully impoverished!! Thank God for today!

An error in your reporting The capital city of Kingston is not only confined to the parish of Kingston. It straddles both the parishes of Saint Andrew and Kingston. Most Jamaicans are easily confused by this, which is odd. This is why the KSAC were merged to form one city, two parishes...smh 🤦 Eg: like Atlanta which straddles both Fulton and Dekalb counties respectively to form one city...🤔
