I really wish the performance center optics ready could be purchased without a Crimson Trace optic which I don't want! Unfortunately, it's only an option with the base model as of April 2023. Poor decision, S&W!
Just changed from the Ruger LCP platform to the Shield Plus PC ported. Couldnt be more satisfied with this pistol. Over 500 rounds downrange and I see nothing I would change or upgrade. Wonderful development!!
Great review and info provided (thank you). I own and love my S&W Shield Plus Optics Ready (which was on sale for 449). I added a StreamLight TLR-6 Light/Laser Combo, A SwampFox Red Dot "AND" a 15 round magazine for it! Yes the 15 round S&W Equalizer magazine intentionally fits BOTH the S&W Equalizer and the S&W Shield Plus!
Couldn't agree more. Kind of disappointed that they don't have a rail yet. I would have thought that the 2.0 would have addressed that si ce the 365 was already on the market. Love the optics ready option though. Hats off for getting that out there.
2 thoughts. First, maybe it would be good to throw up a chart to show how the weapon co.pares to other Firearms in the same class that you have already evaluated. Second, I'm curious what made the "options" category a 2 instead of a 3. I don't disagree with the score, but the reasoning sounded .ore like a feeling than a fact.
Agreed, that's my one complaint. I have a Streamlight TLR6 and it's okay but I really want more light. I found a company that has an adapter to put a TLR7 on the Shiled plus but good luck finding a holster, you'd have to have one custom made.
I sold my gen 1 Shield to get a Shield plus and love it. I used to rotate my gen 1 Shield with my full size M&P but now I carry my Shield Plus almost exclusively. I put a Swampfox Sentinel A on it and this thing is fantastic.
Price and value on this thing is through the roof. I have an OG shield, and just picked up the plus to replace it. Paid $450 for the bugout edition that comes with a bag, 5 mags, optic cut, and night sights. Cannot beat that value.
Recently picked up a shield plus bugout kit. Came with front and rear tritium sights 4 13rd mags a 10 rd mag bugout bag and first aid kit for 450. I couldn’t be happier.
Very interesting and great call, Jeff, on the recoil comment. Current Shield 2.0 owner and rented the Shield Plus a couple times for fun. But today I rented the Hellcat Pro and the Sig 365XL cuz, y’know, it’s a longer barrel so there’s less recoil, right? Wrong. I had the SRO record me with all 3 guns and not only was my grouping with the Plus better the recoil is noticeably better/less on video. Forgo all the dogma about small guns and test it for yourself. And yes, the Plus trigger is awesome. Done deal here.
I judge pistols against the G19/G17. This is why if SHTF I’m going with the P10C. But strict conceal carry the Shield Plus conceals extremely well but more importantly I can draw it with the quickness. Some Micro Compacts I can’t get my hand on efficiently. And I hit targets with the same accuracy of a G19. Great pistol. If Smith makes a Shield 45 Plus they can pretty much name their price.
I love my p10c. Another amazing options is the m&p 9 compact. Surprisingly the recoil impulse is softer to the hand than the g19 and my p10c. The apex fss trigger also improves it dramatically as well.
Finally got to take my new shield plus to the range today and my god.... I thought there was something wrong with my barrel because accuracy was HORRRRRIBLE. Up until owning this micro compact I had been shooting full size pistols, primarily by RDS except for my g17. Accuracy was never an issue.... Before I wrote off the barrel being shit I figured it would be smart to make sure I'm not the one at issue here so I braced it on the bench and it was like a little laser... It was TOTALLY me causing the horrendous accuracy. Idk if it's because of the super short sight radius or just being a really tiny gun but it's going to take ALOT of practice to get good with this damn thing. My windage wasn't too bad but all my shots were coming in SUPER low....
@@Swamprowdy I completely agree. As stated in my post the accuracy was perfectly fine, that it was user error. I have very large hands so it took me a few hundred rounds to really become more efficient with the gun. Since original purchase I've also purchased a hellcat & glock 43x and still the shield plus is somehow the least "snappy" of the three. As far as accuracy between the three go I honestly can't discern a difference between them when using a bag. From normal standing I'm most accurate with the 43x but it's only by a very small margin which of course can be attributed to being a user issue.
Youbsay thwy come in 9mm only. However, I took my slide/barrel/spring from my Shield 2 .40, swapped it to the Shield Plus, and it becomes a Shield Plus .40. Everything- THAT I COULD SEE AND TEST, fit perfectly. BUT, the magazine will not take the .40S&W and i dont know how to get one for it. They can immediately have the .40, but they dont want it onviously. Must be bought off, everyone wants to sell great stuff. Sooo, I bought the Taurus G2c 40 and G3c 40. They are great, you guys should review them. And maybe mention what a great gun the Shield Plus would be. Absolutely nothing to retool. All parts are there. This part here and this part there Vern!! Thanks for your review here, it's my carry after the older Shield .40.
Love how the trigger brakes at 90 degrees. Sweet! M&P Shield Plus in 30 super carry. One 13 & one 16 mag with lighter recoil optic cut and excellent sights. $300
I don't like how the standard looks it looks squashed but I love how the performance model looks and the extra fps&fpe with the 4" barrel and with an optic like the 407k/507k awesome, id like an aluminium minimalistic magwell and a rail for a small light would be nice, And the new 30 super carry with a 13 round flush baseplate and 16 extended wow, all that's needed is an underwood 30 super carry +p+ gold dot and with those things and features mentioned for me that's apsolute perfection.
Crazy to think these have come down in price since the video. I just got the optics ready version for $450 and a $50 rebate so $400 even. Excellent value here for an amazing CCW
I've had the 15 round with the 4-in variant for about two or three months. It's nice haven't went to the range yet with it but straight out of the box it helped me be the best in my personal protection class with no prior range experience just dry firing everyday or every other day for the last few years.
I've carried the original shield since they came out and have always loved it, but recently I saw a shield plus optics cut , night sights and burnt bronze finish. The best part was it was the same price as the standard shield plus, no brainer.
Go try the shield plus trigger, it's probably the best trigger on a micro compact and Mayne in the running for best stock striker trigger. I hope S&W puts this trigger on all their M&P models
5:15 - 6:05 The facts are on the screen. 95% of the rest of the video, including the dialog while the facts are on display, is feelings. Top notch execution of the plan, guys. LOL
We just bought the shield plus 9mm with f.o. for $500. Wow, is it ever hard to load the mags! I bought a loader from Amazon and could only get 10 rounds into the 13 round mag. Maybe I bought the wrong one. I have not fired the pistol yet but hope to soon. It fits my hand well and the sighting is quite nice.
I had a similar issue and found a RU-vid video stating to push the round in hard with a loader when you reach that "wall", and you'll be able to get the rest in. It worked. It will pop, but you're not damaging it. Leave it full for a while to help the spring break in. It will get easier.
Load em and keep ‘em loaded for a while! Clean the gun, oil it and rack it 50 times and lock it back for a few days! I do that to all my guns. It’ll get easier
My pc plus came with the sights off over 6” to the left at 5 yards. Had 3 different people shoot it to confirm it. Should not have to adjust sites out of the box on a PC version. After a little fine tuning and 300 rds it’s now my daily.
@@ARFCOMNews nope. I have a sight pusher. Was back at the range within a day or two and it did what I needed it to do. I’ve got the 3.1” and was able to be consistent at 12 yds in a 6” circle. Which is very good for me. I’ve also taken a fox with it at 25 yds that had my rooster in its mouth. Can’t beat that in my world.
No disrespect since both of the presenters have extensive firearms experience, but I believe that the title is reversed. I believe a review of the difference between subjectivity and objectivity is in order. None of the type of tests were demonstrated nor scoring was defined up front. Perhaps I missed a previous video. Additionally we didn’t see any of the individual test presented. I have no idea how the base line was picked and what characteristics made them similar to the baseline. The magical mystery score at the end, I suspect was joke. You are much better than this as I respect both of your expert opinions, but you took a great concept and watered it down.
Completely agree. This came up in my feed, never seen this channel before, so I totally agree, should have been some up front explanation on the scoring and baseline guns selected etc. for first time viewers.
Shield Plus $399 & 379 at Academy Outdoors and Sports. Shield Plus & the Ruger Security 380 Easy are doing quite well. My buddy retired law enforcement officer just bought the Ruger Security 380 for $319 taxes and background check. The Shield Plus is a great weapon. Great video, your fired .
I just got a shield plus OR with Night sights for $350 free shipping😂😂 no brainer. I don’t need to spend $400 more for a PC ported barrel or polished trigger.I’ll put an apex in if needed. But None of that will matter when shit hits the fan. Plus anyone who carry’s learns quickly 4” barrels suck and almost impossible to carry in the summer.
Excellent review video. Thank you a ton. I was wondering if you happen to know Chief Warden? I don't want to put his full name in case he wants to remain incognito. I grew up with him and his youngest brother was my best friend. Again, thanks for an amazing video.
I think they liked it from the beginning. From 1-3 scoring Reliable 3 Accuracy 0 Design 1 Price 1.5 I bought it for reliability as my shield 45 was accurate and reliable . I regret selling my shield 45. I bought this and I don’t think I could hit the side of a barn. It is the worst gun I have shot for me. Honestly I’m disappointed as I really wanted to like it. Now I have to say this is for me not for everyone. So please don’t take offense is this is just my comments on how it works for me. I like S&W. I have found for me it is best to carry my g19 or p320 RXP x-carry those size guns works best for me easy to conceal and very accurate.
My Shield+ PC broke almost immediately and had to be sent back. No problems since. The grip texture is a negative- too aggressive. It's a cheese grater which necessitates wearing an undershirt. For the price, even with an optic, should have come with tritium sights. "Upgraded" trigger is more gritty than my Shield PC 1.0, but slightly better overall. Crimson Trace red dot has been great as far as durability- subjected to very abrasive environments. Magazines are a big negative- difficult to insert when full, some only hold 12 instead of 13. Slide lock is a negative- can't release reliably with thumb, usually needs to be racked. Lacks a pic rail which would have been very easy to incorporate on a gun with a 4" barrel. Overall, it's a very accurate gun that is better than most guns it competes with. I carry it every day. I also give it a 3/5.
2 thoughts. First, it might be useful to put the scores up on a chart along with the results of other pistols in the same class that you've already reviewed such as the hellcat. Second, what causes the "options" score to be a 2? I don't disagree with the score, but the justification was all feeling and no fact.
I am actually making a chart to show the entirety of the testing group together, great suggestion. Yall have said this multiple times so far and we completely agree. Thanks for watching - Taylor
It seems like a lot of their points were based on feelings, not facts, despite the name of the video. Also, if you claim to use a 3 point scoring system and then score a category using half points, then you may as well use a 5 point scoring system, lol. I believe that the Shield Plus and PC version are overpriced for what you get. I can buy a compact or full size Sig P320 X for the same price, and get a lot more for my money.
I understand that, I do as well. The only decent one I found is the TLR6. There is an option with just light and light with laser. It fits on the front of the trigger guard. Usually around $100. Good luck!
