It describes a deep emotional state; a yearning for a happiness that has passed, or perhaps never even existed. The word does not translate well, so I left it as is, in the translation. I think " virginais grinaldas" best translates to "bridal crown", like a wreath of flowers worn on a bride's head.

Hi Ginger and Mike! You guys have no idea of how much I've been enjoying your videos. Thank you so much for this and for being so lovely. You know fado is so so so Portuguese, something we all grew up with, that it's hard for us to even imagine how people from other corners of world feel about it. It's all so interesting, really. Music, as other forms of art, is this wonderful universal language that bring us all together and that's so good. I'm Portuguese, from Lisbon and my grand father was a great Portuguese guitar player. My biggest frustration is not never have learned how to play it properly. You guys should come to Lisbon one of these days and if you enjoy fado (as it seems you do) you should have the experience to have a nice dinner in a Lisbon fado house. All the atmosphere there and then the music... It'sall trully magical! Thank you. Best!

Camané (you sayed pretty well the second time) is a very fast way of saying Carlos Manuel. Laranjeira - orange tree, the j has a soud not far from the english one. Marta is a sublime player, I love the way she pets her Portuguese Guitar in the end 😍. If you liked a fado male voice, you'll love Simão Oliveira - O Rapaz, 14 years of age and a maturity some people with a 14 year carreer don't have. Another male voice, not quite fado, António Zambujo - Pica do sete.

Fado Laranjeira, can be translated as "Orange Tree (Laranjeira) Fado". The fado is about a girl he remembers when he was young. The interesting thing here, is that the reference to the orange tree, refers to the virginity of the girl he recalls. I am 60, and I can remember that in the 70s, the brides still used to wear orange tree flowers, which was a sign of virginity (I am sure that not every bride with a orange flowers was a virgin, but they did it anyway).
