When the wind blows in, you need to find a safe anchorage or Harbour. In Eleuthera, Hatchet Bay is self proclaimed the safeest harbour in all the Bahamas. So, that's where we went.
We are a family of 5 living fulltime on our 1987 47Ft. Trawler. Every week we explore, learn something, fix something, and answer something and try to share the true essence of boat life. We love this boating community. But no matter what your passions are in life and where your life leads you. We want you to enjoy the journey.

That water was gorgeous! But they made me laugh when it was apple, banana and red pepper…. Texan 100% lol… awesome video. I think that rain on the roof would have sleeping like a baby lol.

Fun fact my Grandmother had the only Museum in the Bahamas. The Government took it over as they thought it wasn't right for a citizen to own a Museum. It failed and then they destroyed it. The Bahamas still doesn't have a proper Museum despite many private efforts. When I moved from Europe to the Bahamas for a few years it was very interesting learning how things work there, or how sometimes things don't work. Love your videos.

That is a shame. We really love learning the history of the islands. We like to buy local books from local authors. We have learned so much that way. The dolphin house in Bimini is one of our favs.

We are now in the Eleuthera’s. Sorry they couldn’t cater to your needs. Your negativity gives us visitors a bad rap! These people work so hard. Apparently they didn’t rise to your standards. Hope you find an island you like. Maybe you should have listened to your parents. If you don’t have anything nice to say - DON’T PUBLISH IT.

I've read Hatchet Bay has poor holding. Enjoyed the video. Eleuthera has had a number of wonderful resorts that flourished for years but eventually failed -- Cotton Bay Club, I think the Potlatch Club, and Windermere which is still going but not as A-list as it once was. Many failed resorts dotting the Bahamas.

The Hatchet Bay Caves is actually large. It runs all the way to the sea on one side and runs all the way under Queens Highway. Maybe if you had the time, you could have explored more.

Man, that sounds really cool. Unfortunately it just felt really creepy. No one around, all the wasps, dark, we just weren't prepared. We tend to do everything ex. Because the first time we mostly scout it out, then we can do it correctly.

What kind of anchor and chain/rode system do you have. Many other boats are dragging.

Oh boy, that is our favorite item on the boat. Chris swears by it and says if you live aboard its the only anchor you should have. An M1 mantus anchor and 250ft 3/8 chain. No line, just chain

Sailed in there back in 2000 after a bad hurricane in ‘99… directly across from the entrance was a huge sign.. welcome to the safest harbor in the Bahamas… piled up against the sign were a number of boats destroyed during the hurricane 😂😂
