I'm sure you've got many comments since this video and you've improved your skills. My main constructive comment is: never force a chip off the board. When it's ready it'll be floating on molten solder. Keep gently poking at it and when it's ready it'll "wobble". If you force it, you are ripping pads and traces. On my channel you can see my own struggle with the very same process so I am not here to point fingers! It's a learning curve! Thanks for sharing your tests!

Thank you for your suggestion! Indeed it is one of my oldest videos that I made 2 years ago. I will try it again later this year when I have time!

What is annoying about lifting the RSX is that solder under the four integrated ram chips tend to burst if the top heater is too high. Usually, I set t-8280 to 350 C, rising the board temperature to 180 C then use the top heater at 270 - 300 C to push the temperature to 230 C. This should happen within two minutes otherwise the RSX will popcorn.

I know a lot of people will be laughing at this and called you names. I think we all have to start somewhere. I admire your bravery at your first attempt. The psx place you posted these already have a lot of information on BGA rework station re reballing. Read RIP Felix and Victor Muir's posts. I think they are nice guys and probably will be happy to help in that pulsating sentimental xcusite place. The key is to research your topic and ask for advice before doing it. Please keep safe.

Thanks for the comment. I did ask in PSX but I didn't get any reply. I do get a lot of feedbacks from reddit, and many of them points out that my equipment is too crappy. I might upgrade my tools in the future and give it a try again.

@@hardwarerepair200 Rip Felix uses the same pre-heater and a hot air gun station on top, I think yihua 853D. At least you are getting help from the Reddit.

Im planning on doing it with a preheater and a station too. Although I believe the preheater should be at 200c. I dont think the equipment is too crappy it just has to be even more cared to

Can someone explain to me what was the primary issue? His preheater was too high temp?

Initially posted on psx place for help as struggled to do it and help was probably none at psx but received help from the reddit. I think if I am not mistaken the original video has been removed and replaced? Hope this will be clarified by the content creator.

Yes, the temperature of my preheater in this video was too high. But when I tune the temperature a bit down, it also fails as the solder balls are not melting as in my other video. ru-vid.com/show-UCxvdwYZ_2RS62jrnb4Ck3Ig I have also tried tuning my hot air gun temperature. But still, the RSX chip either pops or doesn't flow at all. Indeed I posted on psx-place but no one replied me yet. So I am still struggling to find the perfect temperature combine between the preheater and the hot air gun. But I am recently busy with other projects. I was simply uploading this video to RU-vid as a reference for me later, didn't expect that it would attract some audience. Please feel free to post your suggestions here, I am happy to learn from you guys too.

@@hardwarerepair200 We can help you on discord. Can you link what thread on psx place did you post ? There is a lot to consider. If you insist on doing it minimalistic way and with hot air, you need a 45 by 45 nozzle that will cover the surface of the chip. The hot air wand needs to be set up on a holder and not waving with a hand. The temperatures need to be reached carefully and you would do better with 2 thermocouples, one on the bottom of the board, one on the top. Reaching desired temperatures carefully without a thermal profile is tricky. You need to simulate it the way a bga station logic would do it. There is a better explanation on what temperature steps you should take...I can share if you get in touch. Before doing anything this, It is also recommended to prebake the motherboard in a minioven for about 8 hours at 100 C, because some boards will have moisture and RSX easily has "ram bleed". The "spoon" you're using for lifting is bad, you're scratching the board and you should never force lift the chip. If it doesn't move, then it didn't get enough heat to melt the balls... By trying to force-pry it you risk ripping the pads.

Using a cheap crap hot air station and not a real BGA rework machine with a profile.
@andriibartchak819

You can’t do that, you destroy the board !!!!! I also don’t recommend using Chinese stations, they always show the wrong temperature !!!!! I also recommend using original fluxes and not Chinese fakes like in the video !!!

Hi i have question ps3 super slim the ihs for cpu cant remove the ihs because no space to add the tools between the cpu and ihs
@hardwarerepair200
@hardwarerepair200 2 года назад
Be careful! On a Super Slim, only the GPU can be delidded. Don't delid the CPU since the IHS is soldered on CPU die. www.psx-place.com/threads/delit-super-slim-cell.26287/

Ok but if we need replace the paste under ihs
@hardwarerepair200
@hardwarerepair200 2 года назад
@@ehabsaeed7686 The good thing is that the soldering material under the CELL IHS is much better than the thermal paste in terms of heat spreading. In other words, you don't even need to worry about repasting under the CELL processor anymore. :)

When successful.. How long is it guaranteed that reballing on the motherboard will last?? 3 months? 6, 1 year?
@hardwarerepair200
@hardwarerepair200 Год назад
It depends on how successful it is. If it is completely successful, I would say 1-2 years.

Don't reball, replace with 40nm. Reballing is not a permanent fix most of the time.

I first removed the RSX chip, then the south bridge chip, and finally the CELL chip. It is more like a practice for me, and the motherboard is completely destroyed after this.So try it only on dead motherboard first!
